Snoring is a natural thing humans and animals do. It can be annoying to sleep around
people who snore. The common causes of snoring are age, weight, the basic biology of the
sexes, nasal and sinus issues, taking certain substances, and the position of sleep.
Growing older has certain effects on the body, and one of them is the greater chance of
snoring, as you reach middle age and beyond, your throat becomes narrower, and the muscle
tone in your throat decreases. While you can't do anything about growing older, lifestyle
changes, new bedtime routines, and throat exercises can all help to prevent snoring. So,
snoring more is inevitable with age, but we can do certain actions to cancel some of the effects
of this process.
Weight is another factor in snoring more. Other factors can contribute; the most
common is that there's too much tissue in the throat and nasal areas. That's why weight gain is
often connected to snoring—many people who never snored in the past will begin to do so
when they put on a few pounds. Gaining weight can add to the weight of your neck, which
presses down on the throat during sleep.
Another common cause of snoring is nasal or sinus issues. These problems can range
from colds to more serious illnesses. Blocked airways or a stuffy nose makes inhalation
difficult and creates a vacuum in the throat, leading to snoring. However, most of these issues
can be easily solved with medication and other treatments.
To look back at what we have discovered, snoring is caused by multiple factors: how
old we are, our weight, our basic biology, our nasal and sinus issues, our consumption of
substances, and our sleeping position. Keeping these all in mind, we can reduce, if not
eliminate, our snoring.

29. What factors cause snoring?

A. Sport habit, drinks and age
B. Sexes, food and sport habit.
C. Temperature, weight and food.
D. Weight, age, nasal and sinus issues.
E. Nasal and sinus issues, temperature and sexes.

30. What should we do to avoid snoring?

A. Relax our body a lot.
B. Drink a lot of energy drink
C. Maintain our healthy lifestyle.
D. Consume delicious food every day.
E. Do a routine body care to avoid aging.

31. “Blocked airways or a stuffy nose makes inhalation difficult and creates a vacuum in the
throat, leading to snoring.” ( Paragraph 4 )
What is the synonym of the underlined word?
A. Respiration.
B. Adsorption.
C. Digestion.
D. Secretion
E. Vision

Ken Johnson, Esq.

Executive Director
Bay Area Advocates
10 Union Street
San Francisco, CA 94115

Dear Mr. Johnson:

I am a first-year law student at Harvard Law School and I am writing to apply for a
volunteer internship in your office this coming summer. I was excited to learn about Bay
Area Advocates from Mary Sinclair, a staff attorney in your office who spoke at a Legal
Practice Settings panel at Harvard Law School last month. Having grown up in San
Francisco, I would like to return for the summer and hope to find an internship where I
can continue my commitment to civil rights work.

During the summer after my junior year at Duke, I volunteered at Ackerman & Alter, a
small civil rights law firm that specializes in employment discrimination. My case
research explored the civil rights of black people who were denied jobs for which they
were fully qualified and received less pay than white people who worked in similar
positions. I learned a great deal in a relatively short amount of time about legal research
and writing about civil rights litigation. It was this fulfilling experience that prompted me
to go to law school, where I could pursue civil rights work more directly.

During my first semester at Harvard, I have continued to concentrate on civil rights issues
by volunteering with the Boston chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. I have
assisted our lawyers on issues ranging from death penalty policies to fair housing
legislation. My desire to become a civil rights advocate has only increased as a result. I
thoroughly believe that my background, as well my familiarity with the San Francisco
area and its political landscape, would enable me to make significant contributions to Bay
Area Advocates.

Enclosed is a detailed resume that highlights my experience and education. I would

appreciate the opportunity to meet with you to discuss summer employment and can be
reached at (617) 495-8856. I will call your office next week about the possibility of
arranging an interview while I am in San Francisco the week of January 22. Thank you in

Lately, concerns have arisen that Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, and its immediate
surroundings are threatened to experience a clean water crisis by 2025. Clean water, which is
produced by two private operators – PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) and Aetra Air Jakarta –
currently totals 18.7 m3 per second. However, by 2025, demand for clean water will reach
41.3 m3/second as the population of Jakarta is estimated to grow to 14.6 million people from
9.6 million currently (the unofficial figure is possibly much higher).

It has been reported that city-owned property developer Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) and
city-owned developer Pembangunan Jaya will acquire a combined 100 percent stake in Palyja.
If the Jakarta administration has a direct stake in the city water operators, it will increase
public supervision on the local clean water industry.

PAM Lyonnaise Jaya, which manages the clean water supply in the west side of Jakarta,
is a private water operator that is partly controlled by Astra International through its subsidiary
Astratel Nusantara. Palyja has been active in Jakarta for about 16 years. However, last year a
law suit was filed demanding that the court will annul the agreement between city water
operator PAM Jaya and Palyja and Aetra Air Jakarta (Aetra) claiming that public access to
affordable clean water has been hindered.

Based on information from the World Bank, Indonesia plans to achieve universal clean water
access by 2019 but almost half of the population still do not have access to clean water at
present
