 He sues them as he complains they violate his OTHER CONCERNS:
privacy The writer has (or at least should have) access to
freedom of right, and writing about the sins of another
shouldn’t hurt his hard work.

BRAINSTORM EVALUATION
POSSIBLE RESPONSES /OPTIONS/ SOLUTIONS CONSEQUENCES – What might happen? Who will be
(brainstorm as many as possible) affected? Which values are involved?
1 Respect his privacy: don’t report on his story He will be able to live the remainder of his life without
anymore and let him live his life peacefully interference as long as his story is not covered further.
Nevertheless, individuals employed by the magazines
responsible for his story will need to inform the public
about the incident.
2 He deserves a punishment: keep the reports and let After making a bad decision, the man's reputation was
him suffer the consequences tarnished, and the public became aware of his mistake.
This led to a lasting impact on his life, despite him serving
the full sentence for his actions.
3 Keep the reports but offer compensation for the man The compensation would help the man, and his story
would be known to the world, publicising and helping the
magazine. However, the man would want his name to
become anonymous and for him to be cleared of his sin
after he complied with his sentence.
4 Make the reporter give a public apology The man would feel better, as the reporter would admit
what he did was wrong. The man would be able to live his
life. However, the reporter wouldn’t feel as good. His
hard work would be diminished, for the simple reason
that his hard work reflects facts and the man can’t cope
with them. Furthermore, it sets an example of writer’s
ethics, and how far they should go for the sake of their
jobs.

DECIDE: Refer to you’re the options listed above - WHAT IS YOUR FINAL DECISION?

For my final decision, I would go with the 1st option (I want the magazine to respect his privacy and keep his name
anonymous)

JUSTIFY: WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS THE BEST DECISION?

I believe that this is the best course of action because the man has already taken responsibility for his actions by
admitting to his crime and serving his sentence. Now that he has served his time, he deserves to be treated like
any other member of society. He likely feels a great deal of regret, and additional publicity would only make him
feel worse. Moreover, the damage has already been done; his story has been widely publicized, and his reputation
has been tarnished. There is no need to prolong his suffering.
