“I-STATEMENTS”

FOR
POSITIVE
COMMUNICATION

GoZen.com
Instructions
“I-statements” are a way of communicating one's
perspective without judgment, confrontation,
shame, or blame. These are useful to facilitate
conflict resolution or to help enforce respectful
boundaries.

Below, you’ll find simple worksheets with sentence

prompts as well as a poster (each has a full-color
version and a more printer-friendly version).

Sometimes, these conversations can be difficult to

start. You might consider having everyone fill out
their sheet before the conversation begins and
then taking turns to share.

Even if your kids are reluctant to give it a try, they

can learn by example. Next time you have a
conflict, demonstrate the power of this type of
communication.
