Grade Level FIVE Date November 21,2019

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of the four fundamental
operations involving ratio and proportion
B. Performance The learner is able to apply the four fundamental operations involving
Standards ratio and proportion in mathematical problems and real-life situations

C. Learning Knowledge:
Competencies/ Visualizes, names and describes polygons with 5 or more sides.
Objectives
Write the LC code Code: M5GE-IIIc-19
for each.
Skill:
Perform the given tasks individually, by pair and by group following the given
house rules/standards/guidelines.
Attitude: /Values Integration
Be cooperative all the time.

II. CONTENT/TOPIC Describing and Comparing Properties of Polygons

II. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide CG Quarter 3 Week 3
pages
2. Learner’s Materials TG Quarter 3 Week 3
pages
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials
from Learning
Resource (LR) portal
B. Other Learning PowerPoint presentation, cutouts, geoboard, tarpapel, pictures, Tangram,
Resources For group activity (straws, colored paper, barbeque stick and popsicle sticks)
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous Motivation or review of pre-requisite skill
lesson or presenting the *Giving of Classroom Rules
new lesson * The 5 P’s:
1. Be Positive
- Always smile, participate actively
2. Be Productive
-Work hard and always do your best
2. Be Polite
- Be kind, polite and courteous to others.
4. Be Prepared
-Come prepared with supplies and completed assignments.
5. Be ResPectful
-Be respectful to your classmates, teachers and property.
-Raise your hand when you would like to speak in class or if you need to
leave the classroom for any reason.
*Motivation:
The teacher will use the “Hat” application to draw the names of the pupils. 8 pupils
will be selected for the game. The 8 pupils will be divided into 2 groups. They will be
solving the puzzle called Tangram. 3 Patterns will be given. First to finish the 3
patterns wins.
*Review:
Game: What am I?
Directions: Identify what is being described in each item.
1) I am a 3-sided polygon with congruent sides. (equilateral triangle)
2) I have one pair of parallel sides. ( trapezoid)
3) All my sides are congruent and no right angles. ( rhombus)
4) I am a 3-sided polygon with 2 congruent sides.(isosceles triangle)
5) My 4 sides are equal. ( square)
B. Establishing a purpose The teacher shows different cutouts of pictures.
for the What do you see class?
lesson/Motivation/ How many sides are there in the picture?
Motive Questions

C. Presenting Strategy: Geoboard Game (Looking for Pattern)

examples/instances of
the new lesson Materials: geoboard, rubber band
Create situation where The teacher uses geoboard in presenting the lesson
pupils visualize instances of
the new lesson using
concrete objects (direct
teaching)
Perform activities with the
supervision of the teacher
( Group works/cooperative
learning)

How many sides are there in the polygon shown in the geoboard
What do you call a polygon with 5 sides? 6 sides/ 7 sides? Etc.
Let the pupils show 5,6,7,etc sided polygon using the geoboard and let them
identify it. Strategy: Geoboard Game (Looking for Pattern)
D. Discussing new concepts Strategy: Activity Work
and practicing new skills Materials: cut-outs of 5-10 sided polygons
#1 Mechanics:
b. The teacher distributes cut-outs placed in an envelope.
c. Let the pupils paste the cut-outs intended for the different column as shown
below

The teacher will discuss the different polygons with 5 or more sides.

E. Discussing new concepts Group Activity:

and practicing new skills Setting of Standards
#2 House Rules/Standards/Guidelines:
(Follow the mnemonic/memory device.)
G- Give thoughtful feedback
R- Respect others & their thoughts
O- On task all the time
U- Use soft voices
P- Participate actively
S- Stay with your group

Directions: Group the class into 4. Let each group perform the
activity written on the activity sheet.
Group I- On an Illustration board, make models of different polygons.
Group II- Using bamboo sticks, make models of different polygons.
Group III – Using straws, make models of different polygons.
Group IV – Using popsicle stick, make models of different polygons.

F. Developing mastery Lets Play a Game

(leads to Formative Form a group of twoGroup who got the highest point Tell Me
Assessment 3) A polygon with 6 angles
A p0lygon with 5 sides
A polygon with 7 sides
A polygon with 8 vertices
A polygon with 9 sides
A polygon with 10 sides
A polygon with 7 vertices
A polygon with 8 angles
G. Finding practical Name some objects in your house, in school, in your
applications of concepts surroundings which are 5-10 sided polygons.
and skills in daily living
H. Making generalizations How do you describe a polygon?
and abstractions about Polygons are closed plane figure made up of several line segments that are
the lesson joined together. A polygon that has 5 sides is called pentagon. A polygon with
6 sides is called hexagon. A polygon with 7 sides is called heptagon. A polygon
with 8 sides is octagon. A polygon with 9 side is nonagon and a polygon with
10 sides is called decagon.
I. Evaluating learning
Directions: Complete the sentences below and draw your answer.
1. I am a 5 sided polygon with 5 angles and 5 5 vertices. I am a _____________
2. I am a 6 sided polygon with 6 acute angles and 6 vertices. I am a _____________
3. I am a 7 sided polygon with 7 angles and 7 vertices. I am a ______________
4. I am an eight sided polygon with 8 angles and 8 vertices. I am a __________
