Statement of Purpose

Introduction
I am writing to express my strong interest in applying for the PhD program in Hydraulic and Hydropower
Engineering at King Fahd University. My academic background, research experience, and professional
aspirations align perfectly with the goals of this program, and I am eager to contribute to the advancement of
knowledge and technology in this critical field. I am particularly motivated by the opportunity to work on
innovative solutions for sustainable water management, a pressing issue in the face of global climate change
and growing population demands.

Academic Background
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Water Supply and Environmental Engineering from Arba Minch University
Institute of Water Technology, where I graduated with honors. During my undergraduate studies, I developed a
solid foundation in fluid mechanics, hydrology, and environmental engineering. My passion for water resource
management led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Hydraulic and Water Resources Engineering from Wollo
University Kombolcha Institute of Technology, where I focused on advanced topics such as watershed
modeling, hydraulic structures, and groundwater hydrology.
Throughout my academic journey, I consistently achieved high grades and received several awards for
academic excellence. My coursework, combined with hands-on laboratory work and field studies, provided me
with a comprehensive understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of hydraulic engineering.

Research Experience
During my Master's program, I had the opportunity to work as a research assistant under the supervision of
Professor Fikru Fentaw. My research focused on the impact of land use/cover change on hydrology and the
implications of GIS and Remote Sensing in hydrology. I utilized hydrological models and statistical tools to
analyze historical data and predict future trends. This research culminated in a thesis titled “Land Use and Land
Cover Change Impact on Stream Flow (Case of Chacha Watershed, Abay Basin, Ethiopia,” which was
published in Control Science and Engineering.
Additionally, I collaborated on a project that involved the design and optimization of irrigation systems to
enhance water use efficiency in agriculture. This project not only honed my technical skills but also reinforced
my commitment to finding sustainable solutions for water resource management.

Professional Aspirations
My long-term career goal is to become a leading researcher and academic in the field of hydraulic and water
resource engineering. I am particularly interested in addressing the challenges posed by water scarcity, flood
management, and the effects of climate change on water resources. I believe that the PhD program at King Fahd
University will provide me with the advanced knowledge, research skills, and professional network necessary to
achieve these goals.
I am eager to contribute to ongoing research projects at King Fahd University, particularly those related to
integrated water resource management, hydrological modeling, and sustainable engineering practices. I am also
enthusiastic about the prospect of teaching and mentoring students, sharing my knowledge and passion for this
vital field.
Why King Fahd University
King Fahd University is renowned for its cutting-edge research and innovative approaches to solving real-world
water resource challenges. The faculty’s expertise, state-of-the-art facilities, and collaborative research
environment make it an ideal place for me to pursue my doctoral studies. I am particularly interested in working
with Professor Dr. Luai M. Al-Hadhrami, whose research on Mechanical Engineering Professional with more
than seven years’ experience in management, academic, teaching and applied engineering research in the areas
of Thermo Fluid Gas Turbines, Fouling, and Energy Conservation aligns closely with my own interests.
The interdisciplinary approach of the program, combined with opportunities for collaboration with industry and
government agencies, is highly appealing to me. I am confident that the rigorous academic training and research
opportunities at King Fahd University will equip me with the skills and knowledge necessary to make
significant contributions to the field of hydraulic and water resource engineering.

Conclusion
In conclusion, I am highly motivated to pursue a PhD in Hydraulic and Water Resource Engineering at King
Fahd University. My strong academic background, research experience, and professional aspirations align
perfectly with the objectives of this program. I am committed to advancing knowledge in this field and
developing innovative solutions for sustainable water management. I am confident that the education and
training I receive at King Fahd University will enable me to achieve my goals and make a meaningful impact on
the world.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to the academic
community at King Fahd University and to collaborate with esteemed faculty and fellow researchers.
