Some words exist in pair and join two Subjects with them.

The Verb agrees with Subject 2.


• Either - or
• Neither – nor
• Not only – but also
• None – but
Observe carefully how Two subjects are combined with the previously listed word pairs.

Relative pronouns- Words which are used to relate two nouns or subjects are termed as Relative pronouns
• Who / Which / Where / What / When / How, Etc.
E.g.- He is a man who noted the questions.
When a Relative pronoun is used in a sentence, the words preceding it and the word following it will not agree.
Make them agree to correct the sentence.
Relative pronouns- Who, Which, Where, When, What, That, How, etc.

One of my friends who has convinced my parents, now demands money.

When “One” is used in a sentence as a subject, the other pronoun (like- his/her/their/its) is not used. One’s is used
instead.

Uses of the following Relative pronouns should be observed carefully.


• Who- When subject is referred.
Alex is a man who likes dogs and cats.
• Whom- When object is referred.
Pari is a girl whom I told you about.
• Which- With non livings and with Livings for selection.
• Which pen is broken?
• Which player is absent today?
• That- With (All/ The same/ The only/ None/ Anything)
• The same pen which was lost is with him.

Rule 16

Adjectives are used to define the quality of anything.


❖ Positive Adjectives- For 1 thing only
❖ Comparative Adjectives- For 2 things only
❖ Superlative Adjectives- For more than 2 things
• ‘Than’ is used with comparative adjectives. Be careful with ‘Then’.

Some important adjectives are listed below:-

• The Comparatives are followed by “Than”


E.g.- He is braver than Varun.
• Superlatives are always written with “The” before them.

Some adjectives add “More” for comparative and “Most” for superlative form:-
