National Hug Your Cat Day

English-speaking countries celebrate National Hug Your Cat Day on June 4th. The purpose of
the holiday is encouraging cat owners to hug their cats. One can celebrate it by hugging,
petting their cat and showing it love. The downside of the holiday is that people who do not
own a cat cannot celebrate it, but they can try hugging someone else's cat. By doing that, the
holiday might encourage them to get a cat of their own. It also teaches about the benefits of
owning a cat, like the fact that cat purring is proven to reduce stress and anxiety. There is a
long history of humans keeping cats as pets. Cats are believed to be kept indoors as early as
7500 BC, in the Neolithic era. In Ancient Egypt cats were worshipped, spoiled and considered
to be holy. National Hug Your Cat Day makes a great excuse to say no to social events of the
day and instead, staying at home with your cat. I like everything about this event, and
although I currently do not have a cat of my own, I will go around hugging my grandma's
cats.
