THE VESSEL

GOD USE
Discovering and Activating the Gift of the Holy Spirit
In a great house, there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood
and earthenware, and some for noble use, some for ignoble. If anyone purifies
himself from what is ignoble, then he will be a vessel for noble use,
consecrated and useful to the master of the house, ready for any good work - 2

PREFACE

I believe one particular prayer that you would probably find every
serious minded Christian praying is the prayer that calls on God to use
them for his kingdom business. How, why, when, where, and for what
is another ubiquitous question. For all intents and purposes being used
by God to do works of extraordinary breakthroughs and miracles is one
seriously coveted thing by almost every Christian.

Some ‘Christians’ in the rash to be used by God to do works of miracles

in God’s name have gotten themselves initiated into secret societies and
cults for the power that can enable them perform those works of
extraordinary nature and miracles. Many young Christians are by the
passing of each day being lured into practicing certain acts and rituals
that is believed would make them more ‘anointed’ or ‘powerful’ to
establish mega churches and ministries.

What actually we should endeavour to comprehend and the processes

that we must necessarily discipline ourselves to follow in order to
receive from God the grace for a ministry have been abandoned. In spite
of all these I strongly believe that God has a ministry for every
individual person that he causes to come unto the earth. The only thing
required of us who desire to be used by God for his kingdom business is
understanding the spiritual principles enshrine in the word of God
outlaying the precedents that guides and leads to the state of being used
mightily by him.

This piece of work follows a simple but five truthful steps that surely
would lead every individual Christian man or woman so faithfully
thirsting and desiring unreservedly to be used by the almighty God
would achieve the same. Readers must follow it studiously but more
importantly prayerfully believing in the divine truths revealed by Gods
word exposited in this book.

58
Again if you are reading this book and you desire to be used by the
almighty God and also to experience the presence of God in your life
then discipline your spirit and endeavour to honestly and truthfully
submit your spirit experience these five powerful divine steps being.
They are . . .

Breaking: the almighty God in his power and majesty must confront
your pride and arrogance and be allowed to dismantle (break into
pieces) all walls of self-defence and hostility established in your heart
and mind.

Melting: you must submit your heart and spirit to the Holy Spirit of the
almighty God to melt-down every insubordination, hardened-
heartedness and strongholds of both the self and the world that has
taken root in your life enslaving you to carnality and worldliness.

Moulding: you must submit your heart and spirit to the Holy Spirit of
the almighty God to reform it like the potter behind the moulding wheel
into whatever vessel that he would find needed to use for his kingdom
business.

Filling: the holy spirit of the almighty God from his divine store house
of empowerment and unction must be allowed now pours his enabling
spirit without limit upon you for his work and glorification.

Commissioning: the almighty God in the power of his omnipotence

and sovereignty empowers and gives divine and spiritual assignment to
be perform in in his name in every day and age.

I am convinced that if you would judiciously submit both your spirit

and mind to these steps and endeavour to undergo through the stages
faithfully and honestly there would be no way that you would not be
able to receive your calling and become opened up for Gods use. When
truly you allow your spirit to experience these five divine steps or

58
stages you would most assuredly be positioned at the level where you
can be used by God.

Nevertheless, these steps must not be considered magical in themselves.

It is only magical when the heart is sincerely opened in search of Gods
hand upon the individual within the confinement of Gods general and
specific will and purpose for the individual’s life and calling. Be
encouraged and influence by these words from the Apostle Paul in his
writings to Timothy. In 2 Timothy 2:20-21 (NKJV) the Bible says . . .

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but
also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor
Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a
vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for
every good work.

You definitely would encounter the power and might of the almighty
Jehovah God that would set you apart for his mission like never before
in your life.

58
Gifting and Calling

Before we talk about spiritual gifting and calling of God I think it is

appropriate to devote few pages to talk about what they are and purpose
they serve. In 1Co 14:1 the apostle Paul admonishes the Saints to
pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts . . . (NKJV) notwithstanding, it
would absolutely be absurd for a person to go to God with an aspiration
or a desire to receive from him a calling or gifting without knowing
what gifting or calling are there and for which purpose they serve.

In 1Corinthians 12:1 the Apostle Paul categorically stated that

‘concerning spiritual gifts, I do not want you to be ignorant. This
statement of the Apostle was made in the midst of confusion and abuses
of the spiritual gifting and calling of God as applied in the Corinthian
church. As indicated by the Apostle the right knowledge of the gifting
and calling of God would enable those blessed with them to use them
properly for both the edification and growth of the church and the
Christian community.

Eph 4:11-12 and he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and
some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the
perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying
of the body of Christ

In this verse the apostle Paul list five (5) major gifts which is also
referred to as offices of the church. In earlier verses of the same chapter
1Co 12:4-10, he list nine ministry gifts.

1Co 12:8-10 (NKJV) 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom

through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the
same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of
healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to
another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another
different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.

58
According to the apostle Paul this gifts or calling have a purpose which
he spells out in Ephesians 4:12

Ephesians 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the
ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Therefore we can deduce from the statement of the apostle Paul in

Ephesians 4:12 as stated above three major functions or purpose of the
gifts which are: (a) Perfecting of the Saints, (b) Work of the Ministry,
(c) Edification of the body of Christ. It is therefore inferred that
amongst the reasons for which a person should desire spiritual gifting or
calling are the three as mentioned above by the Apostle Paul which
ultimately must necessarily end up in the eternal salvation of persons
who benefits from its operation and not rather to enrich the individual
person as has become common place in recent times.

It is my prayer that this few words of insight into spiritual gifting and
calling would spurn readers on unto a more detailed topics and writings
on spiritual gifts and callings since this book is not dedicated to that
focus.

58
STAGE 1
THE BREAKING
STAGE

This stage, which is the first of the five stages in the whole preparation
process, I consider very important though together with the other four
makes the process impeccably complete. Many atimes both new
converts and relatively long time Christians alike enthusiastically thirst
and desire to be used by God to do works of extraordinary nature all in
the name of winning the world for God and more so saving the
perishing from the hand of Satan who is the arch enemy of anything
good.

58
Though a virtuous and commendable desire it ends up not being
realised or accomplished in the life of the believer after years of fasting
and prayers challenging God with the numerous scriptural passages of
his willingness and preparedness to give gifts of grace unto those who
asks in the name of his son Jesus Christ. I am talking like this because
in my life as a young Christian I have experience what I am sharing
with you in this book, it is not just a made believe or imaginary write
up.

You commit yourself to serious fasting and prayers, quoting back unto
Gods his word, believing deep down in your spirit that it is only in the
promises of his word that he is challenged to answer the prayers of the
sons of men. Most atimes the scripture I have quoted have included
particularly but not limited to Numbers 23:19 (ASV) where the Bible
says . . .

God is not a man, that he should lie, neither the son of man, that he
should repent: Hath he said, and will he not do it? Or hath he
spoken, and will he not make it good?

In this scripture I have time and again displayed my deep rooted

conviction and acknowledgement of the fact that the immutability of the
divine counsel of our God is a surety and that no entreaties of the
adversary can move the heart of God away from looking upon me with
favour. Furthermore I have solidly demonstrated my acknowledgement
in the fact that every promise of God is yea and amen in Christ Jesus
and not one single word of the Lord shall ever fall to the ground without
being fulfilled. In Isaiah 55:10-11 (RSV) the Bible says . . .

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and return
not thither but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be
that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but

58
it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and prosper in the thing for
which I sent it.

Some of the other passages that I have normally quoted to put God at
the position where I have believed it would become automatic to
receive from him included also the following . . .
7
Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and
it will be opened to you. 8 For every one who asks receives, and he
who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Matthew
7:7-8 (RSV)

Therefore I say unto you, all things whatsoever ye pray and ask for,
believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:24
(ASV)

One other important thing that for so long a time prevented me from
being able to avail myself for Gods use and also given the grace of
being able to tap into the heavenly resources of unlimited ability to be
used by God was my confusion and unpreparedness to submit myself to
what I call ‘the process of preparation for ministry task.’ I thought
myself ready in every way to receive from God and also be used by him
so that when my prayer were not being answered according as I desired,
my faith collapsed and my passion for his work quenched until God
inspired within my spirit the truth I am about to share with you in the
pages this book that follow.

Though I thought myself very ready in my heart and mind for God’s
use, in actual fact I was instead rather no way near and far away from
the word ready. I was no way positioned in any way to receive from
God. When God weighed my heart and my preparedness for ministry
responsibility I believed it was not deferent from the writing that
appeared at the palace of the son of Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon

58
Belshazzar ‘MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN,’ weighed and found
wanting (Daniel 5: 1ff).

Beloved in our gracious Lord I have come to appreciate strongly that

until your heart find its state unworthy and deserving the recompense of
its fruits, and also find out that the only way of a hope for help and
salvation is to cry out bitterly to God, seeking help because it finally
realises and acknowledge its corrupt nature, that heart cannot stand in
the council of the almighty let alone to receive a commissioning from
him to do his work. The prophet Isaiah could not help it but exclaim his
destruction and annihilation when he found himself seeing the glory of
the almighty God. In Isaiah 6:5 the Isaiah said . . .

‘Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips,

and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes
have seen the King, the LORD of hosts’.

According to the Bible, the heart is the centre not only of spiritual
activity but also of all the operations of human life. The heart is
considered the home of the personal life of an individual therefore a
man is designated according to the dispositions of his heart. This same
heart is considered as the seat of the conscience. In its unbroken state
the heart evidences itself by light views of sin; consequently a partial
acknowledgment and confession of it, pride and conceit, ingratitude,
unconcern about the word and ordinances of God, inattentive to divine
providence and general ignorance of divine things.

Knowing very well what this heart is capable of aspiring, the bible
admonishes a vigilant keeping of it. In Proverbs 4:23 the Bible says . .

Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of
life.

Because the heart is the depository of all wisdom and the source of
whatever that ends up affecting life and character, it must be guarded

58
with all watchfulness. If the heart is in the state being pure and holy, all
its purposes will be just and good. If it be impure and defiled, nothing
will proceed from it but abominations. In Marks 7: 21-22 (MKJV) the
Bible says . . .
21
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts,
adulteries, fornications, murders, 22 thefts, covetousness,
wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride,
foolishness.

It is very important what the state of the heart is before one can
contemplate on any possibility of receiving anything from the almighty
God even though the desire might be within the general will purposes of
the almighty God for the individual. The breaking of the heart and its
availability for God to prepare it in his own way and style in order to
fill or cause to spring from it a fountain of his extra-ordinary works
should not be underestimated.

The first of this stages that I believe any and every one seeking to be
chosen or appointed by the almighty God to do works of extraordinary
nature must submit their selves to is the ‘breaking stage’. The braking
stage is the stage in the whole preparation process where God through
the power of his word and the effective agency of the Holy Spirit is able
to confront and dismantle every hostility and apostasy of the individuals
self or will and force them to absolutely submit and surrender to the
power and sovereignty of the Almighty God.

This particular stage in the life of the believer or the individual desiring
to receive a calling or commissioning into the service of the almighty
God is very crucial. I consider it to be the ‘point of entrance’ into the
possibility of being positioned to receive from God. It is a crucial stage
as well because it is at this stage that the individual is brought face to
face with the power of God to save. The Apostle Paul before his
conversion to Christianity is reported to be the most zealous Jew

58
amongst his colleagues for the things of God during his days of
religious ignorance in Judaism until he came face to face with the
almighty God. In the Acts of the Apostles 9:3-5 (RSV) the Bible says . .
.
3
Now as he journeyed he approached Damascus, and suddenly a
light from heaven flashed about him. 4 And he fell to the ground and
heard a voice saying to him, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?’
5
And he said, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ And he said, ‘I am Jesus,
whom you are persecuting’.

According to the narrative, immediately after the apostle was brought

face to face with the power of the almighty God, the walls of hostility
and apostasy around him came strongly crumbling down. In this same
manner the individual is still destroyed and even worse still when left in
his ignorance and pride of heart. He has completely no knowledge of
the diabolic propensities of his own heart until God by his grace pierces
through it with the illumination of his word and spirit.

At this stage God must be allowed to penetrates deeper into the heart
and arrest the soul and spirit and bring into submission even our very
sensations, passions, and appetites, nay, to our very thoughts and sit
absolutely as the judge of the even the most secret intentions,
contrivances, and sentiments of the heart. In Jeremiah 4:4 (ASV) the
God told his people . . .

Circumcise yourselves to Jehovah, and take away the foreskins of

your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem; lest my
wrath go forth like fire, and burn so that none can quench it, because
of the evil of your doings.

Until you get your heart and mind and spirit arrested by the power of
the Holy Ghost and get the various long standing defences and
hostilities of your heart and mind and spirit which may have been the

58
strongholds of heathenism, pride, and sin demolished and find yourself
at last at the feet of the almighty God in strong tears and remorse for all
the unscrupulous things that you have for so long a time indulged in,
you would still remain far away from the position of receiving or being
used by the almighty God. The Bible describes the heart as deceitful
above everything and desperately wicked. In Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV) the
Bible says . . .

The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; who
can know it?

There is nothing so deceitful and dishonest as the heart of man;

deceitful in its acknowledgement of things, in the hopes and promises
which it nurtures, in the assurances that it gives us; unsearchable by
others, deceitful with reference to ourselves, and abominably wicked, so
that neither can a man know his own heart, nor can any other know that
of his neighbour's. It even hides itself from itself; so that its owner does
not know it. Thanks be to the almighty God, we are not left hopeless. In
Psalm 44:21 (RSV) the Bible says . . .

. . . for he knows the secrets of the heart.

By all acceptable means the heart of the heart that seeks or desire to
receive from God especially a calling into any ministerial work must be
seriously broken and cut into pieces before the awesome presence of the
almighty God. The breaking of the heart is emphatically important; God
makes it so when he says in his word that he would change the heart of
his people and cause a renewal of their minds to instruct their
understanding and give them a heart sanctified in which the grace of the
almighty God would become victorious and turn it from all sin to
Godself. In Ezekiel 36:26 (RSV) the Bible says . . .

58
A new heart I will give you and a new spirit I will put within you;
and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a
heart of flesh.

That heart is hard, impenetrable, and cold. It harbours in itself

affections and passions that are unyielding; frozen to good, and
unaffected by heavenly things. God says he would entirely remove it
because it is in contravention to that which he needs to work with. What
the word and spirit of God must be allowed to do to the heart at this
stage is to break it and lay it bare for the next stage in the process of
preparation to receive from him a ministry.

Until this transition attainable only through the agency of God’s word
and spirit is brought to pass in the life of the heart seeking to be used,
there is absolutely no way that in its deceitful and unregenerated state
anything can be given it by God. In the text that immediately follow the
above Ezekiel 36:27 (RSV) God says . . .

I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes
and be careful to observe my ordinances.

God would have to enter into the heart and break all the unclean and
exalted walls of the canal works of the flesh in it which evidences itself
in adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery,
hatred, contentions, jealousies, and outbursts of wrath, selfish
ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries,
etc.

You may find your breaking stage to be very difficult because it would
sometimes take you completely out of your comfort zone but remember
it has to happen in order for the Lord to be able to proceed to the next
level of your preparation process for his service. Your heart is worth
nothing to the Lord until broken and surrendered unto him. Be

58
encouraged by the scripture bellow to seek your heart broken by God.
In Psalm 34:18 (MKJV) the Bible says . . .

The LORD is near to the broken-hearted; and saves those who are
of a contrite spirit.

God takes so much contentme`1nt in the company of the people whose

spirits are truly humbled under his hand, whose hearts are subdued and
made obedient to God's will and submissive to his providence. The
people with such state he cannot endure to have them far from him; he
has them always under his eyes and is sure not to leave them long, nor
go far from them, but will be ready at hand to set their bones, to bind up
their wounds to keep them from festering

PRAYER POINTS 1

58
This is the time where you look for a solitude place away from the
noises of the outside world amidst the spirit of full seven days fasting
and praying to have this encounter with the Lord as you prepare to pray
this prayer. Ensure that you honestly and sincerely have humbled your
body and spirit before the almighty God.

1. Meditate deeply on the word of God that you have just finished
reading. (Psalm 77: 12; Josh 1: 8)

2. Find an appropriate song to praise and worship God (psalm

7:17; 9:2; 69:30)

3. Thank God for the exposition in his word just as you have read
and understood. (Dan 2:23; matt 11:25)

4. Make the confession that you think is needed to open up your

spirit for Gods touch. (Psalm 66:18)

5. With a travailing spirit ask God to bring about the breaking that
you need in your heart and soul. (Exo 34:24; Ecc 3:3; Hos
10:10)

6. Renounce in the name of Jesus all the evil pleasure of the heart
and declare a total separation between you and them. (Luke
14:33; Tit 2:12; 1 Jon 2:16)

7. Invite God to come and search your whole heart to arrest every
hidden pleasure of the carnal heart. (Gal 5:19-21)

8. Invite God to come and take total control of your heart so that
he can start the process of preparing it for his use. (Ps 86:5;
91:15; Jer 29:12)

9. Thank God for his love and mercy and his readiness to save us
from our own destruction through the blood of Jesus Christ. (Ps
107: 8;15;21;31)

58
If you have prayed this prayer sincerely and with all your heart be
assured that the Lord God almighty is ready to accept you wholly first,
then the heart you are dedicating to him. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 (RSV) the
Bible encourages that . . .

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and

pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will
hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

58
STAGE 2
THE MELTING STAGE

The melting stage is the stage or level two in the whole preparation
process. This stage is also relatively connected with the stage one which
is the breaking stage. The success of this stage is dependent strongly on
how broken the heart of the individual becomes at the first level of the
process of preparation. To have a successful melting stage one must be
honest and truly seek the brokenness of the heart.

I am personally challenged by this scripture passage in Proverbs 17: 3

(WEB) the Bible says . . .

58
The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, But Yahweh
tests the hearts (of men) emphasis mine.

When silver is mixed or suspected to be mixed with base metal, it must

be subjected to such a test as the cupel to purify it. And gold also must
be purified by the action of the fire. In order to get the heart to be at the
stage where God would be in need of it, it must necessarily be subjected
to the spiritual chamber of the crucible, to destroy what cannot stand the
fire and burn up all the dross.

It is simply unbelievable how David responded when he realised how

contemptible his heart had become and that for God to make any use of
him, he needed to have it changed. For David the seriousness of his
need is expressed in these words . . .

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me.

Psalm 51:10 (WEB)

David prayed the Lord to create in him a new heart. He did not ask God
to simply correct his old heart but to create in him a new heart; showing
that his heart was like an old raiment so terrible and tattered that he
could make no good use of it by patching or piecing. This is most
certain that by grievous sins much filthiness comes to the soul. In Hosea
13:2 (MKJV) the Bible says . . .

And now they sin more and more, and have made themselves a
molten image of their silver, and idols according to their own
understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen . . .

They increase in every kind of vice, having abandoned the great

Inspirer of virtue. It is important to note here that the hearts of men are
subject, not only to God's sight but to his judgment as well. As the
fining-pot is for silver, both to prove it and to improve it so the Lord
tries the hearts; he searches whether they are standard or not and those
that are he refines and makes purer. It is during this stage of melting

58
(refining) that all the evils and contrarieties of the heart influenced by
the depraved inclinations of the fallen nature that does not make it
possible for the lord to use are systematically identified and removed by
the agency of the word and spirit of God. In Hebrew 4: 12 (WEB) the
Bible says . . .

For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-
edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of
both joints and marrow and is able to discern the thoughts and
intentions of the heart.

It is only at this level of highly heated state in the furnace that God
enables a separation between our true self and our estranged heart.
Between the inferior faculty of our heart by which we think of and
desire things that concerns our present being and welfare, and our
superior faculty by which we prefer the things of God to the present
corrupted and decaying disgust of the unregenerated heart and is also
directed to pursue truth and right above all things and even to despise
what is agreeable to our present state, if it stand in competition with or
is prejudicial to the will of God. In Proverbs 14: 10 (WEB) the Bible
says . . .

The heart knows its own bitterness and joy; He will not share these
with a stranger.

What is so interesting even as we discuss the various topics in this level

especially this topic of melting is the fact that the bible says that even a
man does not know what is contained in his own heart or what his heart
is capable of conceiving. Is it not thought-provoking to learn that you
are a stranger to your own heart? How then can you be dependent on or
trust it, knowing that you have not the complete control over it. Not
only this in Jeremiah 17: 9 (RSV) the Bible says . . .

58
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately corrupt; who
can understand it?

What should a man do when even he cannot determine what his own
heart is capable of accomplishing or cause to happen to him? Or when
the deep rooted thoughts and actions of his own heart are hidden from
him, but when this same heart is arrested by the almighty God and
submitted to the furnace, every impurity is exposed and separated so
that the hitherto desperately wicked heart becomes adoring and
accommodating. The Bible adds in Proverbs 14: 10 (WEB) that . . .

The heart knows its own bitterness and joy; He will not share these
with a stranger.

This is the reason why many have wondered if there is even a God at all
who answers the supplication of his children who fervently seek his
help. Many have had their faith shaken and worse of all abandoned for
lack of this particular knowledge. It should not surprise you to learn
from this book that your heart can tow a path that you disagree with.
Your spirit and heart can be in a sharp disagreement. In Isaiah 29: 13
(RSV) the Bible says . . .

. . . this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their
lips, while their hearts are far from me . . .

You must be well aware by now that God does not just use any heart
surrendered to him without letting it go through the furnace for
refinement and redefinition. He makes sure that like the potter the
surrendered heart is made ready by means of intentional preparation
before he would have need of it for any use. In Ezekiel 36:26 (RSV) the
Bible says . . .

A new heart I will give you and a new spirit I will put within you;
and I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a
heart of flesh.

58
During the process of melting as the text above may imply succinctly
God determine to renew the mind, enlighten the understanding, correct
the hearts judgment and perfect its will so that a new spirit is given to
activate the new heart. That heart which is unyielding, impervious, and
unsympathetic; displaying affections and passions that are evil,
unaffected by divine things and also sluggish to acknowledging the
words of the almighty God is completely taken out.

The justification for the need why God should purge the heart of its
impurities before use has by now been long established in this dialogue.
It is when this heart of stone, full of unthinkable desire for evil and
worse of all deeper craving for evil is put to the fire in the furnace that it
may come out redefined. It is at this point that the individual can
proudly and boldly like Apostle Paul say . . .

Howbeit what things were gain to me, these have I counted loss for
Christ. 8 Yea verily, and I count all things to be loss for the
excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I
suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but refuse, that I
may gain Christ, 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness
of mine own, even that which is of the law, but that which is
through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by
faith: 10 that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and
the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed unto his
death; 11 if by any means I may attain unto the resurrection from the
dead. Philippians 3:7-11 (ASV)

The Apostle Paul according to biblical and historical records was

arrogantly a bully and ferociously breathed death on the 1 st century
Christian church. To a very great extent through this he gained prestige
and respect from his fellow Jewish country man like no other among his
colleague mates. He successfully built a reputation for himself when
boldly he went to the governor to take from him letters of
administration so that he can comb the whole empire to arrest all
58
manner of men and women who dared professed faith in, preached or
spoke in the name of Jesus. But when God was done with him his story
changes and his passion for the work of God was like no other. In
Galatians 2:20 (WEB) this same Paul said . . .

I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I that live, but
Christ living in me. That life which I now live in the flesh, I live by
faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.

Until your heart experiences this level of melting it would always be in

the state where God cannot use it and also present itself in its boastings
and self-aggrandizement. Many have been seriously disappointed in
depending on their heart which woefully failed them.

It necessarily follows from the scripture passage bellow that until the
heart has been completely surrendered to God and submitted to the
furnace for refining and redefinition no relationship can be establish
with it. God would necessarily have to possess the heart and change it
before it would be able to understand the demand of God and the take it
would be commissioned to accomplish. In Jeremiah 24:7 (ASV) the
Bible says . . .

And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am Jehovah: and
they shall be my people, and I will be their God; for they shall
return unto me with their whole heart.

You know very well that ‘you cannot eat your cake and still have it.’
You cannot be in possession of your heart which is the only thing that
determines who a man is actually capable of and still expect God to
give you such precious gifts of ministry reserved for his chosen. You
are positioned at the level where God can use you unlimitedly when you
have given the whole of your heart unto him and submitted to however,
whichever and whatever preparation and use that he would be pleased
with.

58
Sometimes this same heart frees itself into other things such that it
becomes very difficult to separate it. There may be something that the
heart has become so much attached with such that you don’t get to the
point that God can really be exalted to the level of being your Saviour,
Lord and Master. If it happens like this there would be no way that you
can receive from the Lord. These three things, the heart, soul and might
(strength) have throughout scripture been demanded inseparably by
God in his worship. In Deuteronomy 5:5 (NKJV) the Bible says . . .

‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all
your soul, and with all your strength’.

A man is said to be of three compositions, i.e. his heart, his soul and his
strength or might. For him or her to succeed in anything these three
must always be together. This is why God call upon those who profess
worship of him to commit all three to him as in the text above. He is
one; therefore our hearts must be united in his love. And the whole
stream of our affections must run toward Him.

You would search throughout the whole universe for a key to unlock
the heavenly door in order to tap into or receive from the almighty God
a ministry but without knowledge of this divine truth it would all be in
vain. Listen to the scripture passage that immediately proceeds the
above from Deuteronomy 6:4 (NKJV). The Bible says . . .

‘Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!

In Judaism this is what is called the ‘shamah,’ it formed the total

embodiment of the religious philosophy and doctrine of monotheism.
Though the word as we have in the text above may be rendered into
English variously almost all the attempted possible verbal varieties in
the translation (and there can be none other) amount to the same sense:
‘Israel, hear! Jehovah, our God, is one Jehovah’; or, ‘Jehovah is our
God, Jehovah is one’; or, Jehovah is our God, Jehovah alone’; or,

58
‘Jehovah is our God, Jehovah who is one’; or, ‘Jehovah, who is our
God, is the one Being’.

What we are here taught to believe concerning God is that Jehovah our
God is one Jehovah and that the heart must melt to come to the point of
strongly accepting and believing that, the God whom it want to receive
from and serve is Jehovah. A ‘Being’ infinitely and eternally perfect,
self-existent and self-sufficient is the one only living and true God; he
only is God, and he is but one. In Matthew 22:38 (WEB) Jesus Christ
say told the rich young man that it is the first and greatest
commandment of all.

What this means is that before there can be any chance at all of
receiving a ministry or calling from the almighty God, the heart must
sincerely and honestly accept this truth and appropriate it accordingly.
After getting to this level of melting the heart become really position to
receive from the Lord when it has opened up to accept him as it Lord
and God.

Remember that these steps are not magical in themselves; they must
necessarily depend on spiritually backed and necessitated conviction
and desire to receive from God and also be used by God. From here the
heart must enter the next chamber in the potter’s shop which is the
moulding stage.

PRAYER POINTS 2

This is the second prayer encounter, like you did for the first prayer
encounter, you sought for a solitude place away from the noises of the
outside world amidst the spirit of full seven days fasting and prayer.
Here too you would do the same for this prayer encounter as well.
Ensure that you honestly and sincerely have humbled your heart and
spirit before the almighty God.

1. Meditate deeply on the word of God that you have just finished
reading. (Psalm 77: 12; Josh 1: 8)

2. Find an appropriate song to praise and worship God. Let the

atmosphere ne charged with your worship of God (psalm 7:17;
9:2; 69:30)

3. Thank God for the exposition and revelation that his word has
brought just as you have read and understood. (Dan 2:23; matt
11:25)

4. Make the confession that you think are needed to open up your
spirit for Gods touch. (Psalm 66:18)

58
5. Renounce in the name of Jesus all the evil pleasure of the heart
and call upon the Holy Ghost fire to bring a total separation
between you and them in Jesus name. (Luk 14:33; Tit 2:12; 1
Jon 2:16)

6. Invite God to come and take total control of your heart so that
he can start the process of preparing it for his use. (Ps 86:5;
91:15; Jer 29:12)

7. Thank God for his love and mercy and his readiness to save us
from our own destruction through the blood of Jesus Christ. (Ps
107: 8;15;21;31)

If you have prayed this prayer sincerely and with all your heart be
assured that the Lord God almighty is ready to accept you wholly first,
then the heart you are dedicating to him. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 (ASV)
the Bible encourages that . . .

If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves,

and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal
their land.

58
STATE 3
THE MOULDING
STAGE

Equally important in the preparation process is the moulding stage

which according to the calculation would be the level four of the total
five preparations for a ministry. Amongst all the levels as an author I
consider this level to be thought-provoking. It is so to be because
amongst all the levels this is where the heart is refabricated into the
form or state that God would consider it fit or desirable to fill it for his
use.

After the breaking stage where there can be the possibility of a mixture
of both genuine desire to be used by God and the selfish one, you move
to the melting stage where God through the furnace separate the

58
genuine from the fake until you reach this level where it has to be
mould into the shape that God can really use.

Earlier I said this level is one level in the preparation stages that I
consider very interesting and challenging as well. This is so because I
think it is also the level that I call protocol breaker. It is a protocol
breaker because no one knows what mould the master would be in need
of or would fashion for his service. In Romans 9:21 (RSV) the Bible
possess’ a powerful question, the bible asks . . .

Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump
one vessel for beauty and another for menial use?

The above scripture passage is what set forth the argument of the potter
having the right of forming the lamb of clay into whichever and
whatever shape and design that appeals to him. It is this same truth that
sets forth the argument of the potter having also the right as to which
use he is in need of and what vessel he would be required to mould. I
must add that there are other conditions that would also contribute to
the flexibility and ease of forming the lump of clay into a particular
vessel.

Much cannot be said about the malleability or inelasticity of the clay,

the type or nature of it and the resistance capacity it has. This is because
I believe that our heart which is the lump of clay is in the hands of not
just any potter but the almighty God himself who is the master
craftsman. The other potters may have limitations and weaknesses but
the Lord Almighty who has been in charge of the heart and has broken
it, melted it would definitely know how best to form it into an
honourable vessel for his perfect use. In Jeremiah 18:4 (WEB) the Bible
says . . .

58
When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of
the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the
potter to make it.

One important advice that I always give at this level to people like you
are searching to be used by God is that, make sure your breaking is
made correctly and completely and also your melting thorough. Note
that ‘the more finer the breaking, the better for easy melting and the
hotter the heat, the more finer the gold becomes. It is only at this stage
that the actual quality and worth of the gold is revealed.

According to the scripture above until God is done with your moulding
into the vessel he desires he would not finish with you. You need to
really be in the state of readiness and preparedness to be moulded into
the shape that God is in need of before you move on to the next level.
You need to be like the lump of clay on the potter’s wheel, it is until it
is moulded into the needed shape the potter only throws it away when
he realises that the clay is not complying with its mould to b reuse
maybe later.

So many people have gone on this quest of a deep desire in their spirit
to be used by God mightily to affect their generation and change their
world but go seriously disappointed. They failed because they did not
wait on the potter to finish with them. They rushed from his presence
and immediately formed their own churches because of economic gains.
They made themselves ready when they were not; they went into
service when they had not been finished with. Is it not amazing when
the pot begins to contend with the hands that formed it on the issue of
its readiness to enter into service. Listen to what scripture says in Isaiah
45:9 (RSV).

Woe to him who strives with his Maker, an earthen vessel with the
potter! Does the clay say to him who fashions it, 'What are you
making'? Or 'Your work has no handles'?

58
At this stage if you have followed judiciously and faithfully the levels
and allowed God to possess your heart you would begin to exhibit
certain manifestation of spiritual graces in your ministry. You have to
be patient and control your spirit, may be the potter would decide to
remould you into a more honourable vessel. It is important to remember
and I hope you do the text bellow in Jeremiah 18:4 (WEB) the Bible
says . . .

When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of
the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the
potter to make it.

If you come to God with expectations that are not in accordance with
his desire and design for your life you might be disappointed how he
moulds you and into what class or degree of vessel you would be
fashioned into. Many have come disappointed and devastated in their
search for God using them for works of service. The craftsmanship of
the potter would not let him mould any vessel that would not
competitively fit his design or specific purpose.

The moulding stage may take so many dimensions. It may be from

modest practical experiences of life to absolutely complicated and
sophisticated ones. In life some of the most anointed men and women
of our generation and time that God has mightily used to affect the
world did not recount their formation with any hope of a mighty work
like what they experienced but their persistent and consistent encounters
with the almighty God saw them through extremely difficult and
sometimes most challenging times to end up the vessel that they
became.

It is a great mistake to desire the works of a mighty man or woman of

God without counting the cost of their formation. As I have said the
finer the breaking of your heart, the easier and quicker the melting and

58
the hotter the fire in the furnace for heating the gold the more valuable
and precious the quality of gold revealed.

Several of the mighty men and women of God that we read about in
scripture who were mightily used by God were like us. They were
ordinary men and women but because of the formation they underwent,
their works became extraordinary. Elisha was a ploughman at Abel-
meholah (1 Kin 19:16), Zechariah a husbandman and a keeper of cattle
(Zech 13:5), Amos a herdsman of Tekoa and a gatherer of sycamore
fruit (Am 1:1; 7:14, 15) David was a shepherd boy. Elijah got so much
persecuted so that he prayed that God should kill him (1 Kings 19:2-4)

Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, ‘So may the gods
do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one
of them by this time tomorrow.’ 3 Then he was afraid, and he arose
and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongs to
Judah, and left his servant there. 4 But he himself went a day's
journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom
tree; and he asked that he might die, saying, "It is enough; now, O
LORD, take away my life; for I am no better than my fathers’.

Though very appealing, the moulding stage can be very tougher than
you expect. You may be taken from your comfort zone into places and
areas you never would imagine in your life. Let me take you back into
the potter’s workshop. For the potter to come out with a very beautiful
and sophisticated pottery that attracts admiration, it would depend in a
large extent on one of the following. Thus how much malleable the clay
has become; which would also depend on the extent to which the clay
has been subjected to mixing in the machine and also how much time
and energy the potter has invested in the whole process of
craftsmanship in pot making.

There are certain types of clay that cannot be formed into a beautiful or
sophisticated design while others can easily be moulded into designs

58
that become breath taking; it is all about the preparations. You do not
really fulfil your purpose if you do not allow God to take the time
needed to finish your preparation process. When David was asked by
the king Saul of Israel as to how he was going to defeat Goliath, the
champion of the philistine army he answered in a remarkable way. In 1
Samuel 17: 34-36 (RSV) David said . . .

David said to Saul, ‘Your servant used to keep sheep for his father;
and when there came a lion, or a bear, and took a lamb from the
flock, I went after him and smote him and delivered it out of his
mouth; and if he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and
smote him and killed him. Your servant has killed both lions and
bears; and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them,
seeing he has defied the armies of the living God’.

There would come a time in your ministry that the depth at which you
have submitted to Gods preparation of you into ministry would count
very much. In fact it would become the only possibility you would have
to stand the tempest and test of time. David did not have the degree or
doctorate to prove to the commander in chief of the Israelites army
King Saul that he was able to defeat the taunting champion of the
philistine army. All that David had to say was but those years he spent
with his father’s flock in the desert, faced with the merciless cold and
unfriendly weather and at the mercy of voracious and dangerous
animals of the wild life.

The King Saul saw David but only in his sarcastic enthusiasm to go up
against the all-time champion of the philistine army Goliath. A fighter
whose height was six cubits and a span and had a helmet of brass upon
his head, armed with a coat of mail weighing five thousand shekels of
brass and a greaves of brass upon his legs and spear head that weighed
six hundred shekels of iron. In the eyes of King Saul David was but like
his elder brother Eliab described him ‘full of pride and naughtiness at

58
heart’ (1 Samuel 17:18 MKJV), an inexperienced youth. The following
word inn 1 Samuel 17:33 describe King Saul opinion of David . . .

And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this
Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of
war from his youth.

At the end of the challenge between Israel and her arch rival Philistine
centred upon the champion Goliath and the supposed inexperienced
young boy David, the outcome was another history written that broke
all times world war records in the ancient world. Out of his experience
David with a string (catapult) and five stones from the bank of the sea
shore triumphed over Goliath with all the armour that he girded himself
with.

If in truth you honestly and sincerely thirst and desire God to use you
mightily to impact this generation and beyond, then you have no option
but to wait patiently on God to form you for the task ahead. In Isaiah
40: 31 (WEB) the Bible says . . .

But those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will
mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary.
They will walk, and not faint.

It is not by chance that the Bible compares those who take time to wait
on God to finish with their preparation to the eagle. Naturally the eagle
is the strongest bird and also with the most fascinating life cycle ever. It
has been a common and popular opinion that the eagle lives and retains
his vigour to a great age and that beyond the common lot of other birds,
he moults in his old age, and renews his feathers, and with them his
youth.

It is supposed that for the eagle to live up to its full years of about 70
years it necessarily need to go into serious waiting. In its 40’s its long
and flexible talons can no longer grab prey which serves as food

58
effectively. Its long and sharp beak becomes bent. Its old-aged and
heavy wings due to their thick feathers become stuck to its chest and
make it difficult to fly. Then the eagle is left with only two options: die,
or go through a painful process of waiting for rebirth which lasts about
150 days.

The process requires that the eagle fly to the highest mountaintop it can
find, away from the trouble and disturbances of others and sit on its
nest. There the eagle knocks its beak against a rock until it plucks it out.
Afterward, the eagle will wait for a new beak to grow back, and then it
will pluck out its talons. When its new talons grow back, the eagle starts
plucking out all its old-aged feathers all these while with little or no
food to control weight. After five months, the eagle then takes its
famous flight of rebirth and lives for 30 more years.

There is no other person that I think is more qualified as David to

advice on the importance of patient waiting on God to finish with us in
his preparation and forming of us into vessels that he would pour his
spirit into and commissioned for his service. In Psalm 27: 14 David
advises . . .

Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and he shall strengthen

thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

David intimates in his writings that there is a greater confidence that is

generated when we wait on God to finish preparing and forming us
before we rush into ministry. This he demonstrate in scriptures passages
like the famous Psalm 23:4-6 (WEB) . . .

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will
fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they
comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my
enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. 6 Surely
goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life

58
Honestly it is only those who have tasted the sore savour of tested and
tried times through the full preparation period of God into ministry who
can in confidence identify with David’s confidence in God displayed in
the scripture passage above. For David his advice is that ‘wait’, wait,
wait, wait at God’s door with prayer, wait at his foot with humility, wait
at his table with service and wait at his window with expectancy.

If the almighty God has not finished with you yet, why then the hurry or
rush into ministry. The formation need to be thorough and complete
because the task and commission is tough and dangerous. Remember it
took Jesus Christ 30 of formation and preparation before he stepped
into the Jordan River to be baptised by John the Baptist to commence
his salvific ministry to the whole of humanity. It also took him another
40 days and night toughening encounter of fasting and prayers in the
wilderness to complete his preparation and formation to enter into the
ministry of the father.

Like I have always advised, the work is for him, the commissioning is
from him and the task is from him, more importantly, the empowerment
is from him as well, why leave him behind or go before him. Remember
in John 10:8 (DBY) Jesus said . . .

All whoever came before me are thieves and robbers . . .

You necessarily need to submit your entire spirit and body to the
complete formation process of the master craftsman who is the almighty
God for when he finishes with you, you shall become unstoppable. The
Bible says in Matthew 4:23-24 (RSV) that when Jesus had descended
from the wilderness he went about all Galilee, teaching in their
synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every
disease and every infirmity among the people. So his fame spread
throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted
with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics,
and he healed them.

58
I think I do not need at this juncture to further comment on how crucial
and urgent it is for you to completely open up you whole spirit to God
to fill it and also allow God to finish forming you and commission you
into his service.

PRAYER POINTS 3

This is the third prayer encounter, like you did for the first and second
prayer encounters, you sought for a solitude place away from the noises
of the outside world amidst the spirit of full seven days fasting and
prayer. Here too you would do the same for this prayer encounter as
well. Ensure that you still honestly and sincerely have humbled your
heart and spirit before the almighty God.

58
1. Meditate deeply on the word of God that you have just finished
reading. (Psalm 77: 12; Josh 1: 8)

2. Find an appropriate song to praise and worship God. Let the

atmosphere ne charged with your worship of God (psalm 7:17;
9:2; 69:30)

3. Thank God for the exposition and revelation that his word has
brought just as you have read and understood. (Dan 2:23; matt
11:25)

4. Make the confession that you think are needed to open up your
spirit for Gods touch. (Psalm 66:18)

5. Renounce in the name of Jesus all the evil pleasure of the heart
and call upon the Holy Ghost fire to bring a total separation
between you and them in Jesus name. (Luk 14:33; Tit 2:12; 1
Jon 2:16)

6. Call upon the Holy Ghost fire to bring about the needed
malleability and flexibility or softness that can be easily used by
the almighty God to design very beautiful, sophisticated and
honourable vessels for his use.

7. Thank God for his love and mercy and his readiness to save us
from our own destruction through the blood of Jesus Christ. (Ps
107: 8;15;21;31)

You should consider every topic with the prayer that follow as together
but separated from each other as well so that you can give it all the
needed commitment and dedication.

If you have prayed this prayer sincerely and with all your heart be
assured that the Lord God almighty is ready to accept you wholly first,

58
then the heart you are dedicating to him. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 (ASV)
the Bible encourages that . . .

If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves,

and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal
their land.

STAGE 4
THE FILLING STAGE

This level probably is the level you have long been waiting for. You are
right in looking forward to experiencing this in your life. The filling

58
stage is the fourth stage and last but one in the total preparation process
for commissioning into the ministry of the almighty God.

I must say that your enthusiasm must not override the attention required
and state of openness you need in both your heart and spirit before
being filed up for ministry. At this stage I can say that you are almost
there but you need to be extra careful and cautious to the promptings of
the Holy Spirit.

If your previous preparations were successful then you need not worry
because at this stage God might have appointed you for a ministry
during your formation stage when as a potter he moulded you into the
vessel he needed at the time and for his particular purpose. This stage
would only serve to allow you receive into your empty self the Holy
Spirit’s enablement and authority to manifest the commission given
you.

If there is any time in the whole preparation process where you have to
apply judicious care and attention then it is this time. This is because
the devil is fully aware that if you are allowed to pass over this stage
you would become dangerous to him, therefore he would do everything
within his power to make sure that something go wrong with you or you
end up not receiving anything at all from the Lord. This the devil would
achieve by making sure that either he fills you up first or that you would
not be empty for the Lord to fill you up.

It is extremely important that nothing that is contaminating is found in

you when the master comes to fill you up. This is because if anything
contaminating or that which would exalt itself against the spirit of God
in your life is found God would not make use of you as you desire of
him to do.

The point is justified in the sense of its practicality in our daily life
experiences. Surely you would not pour the water you want to drink

58
into a gallon or bottle that has petrol already poured into it, it is
dangerous for your health. The devil is very smart, he know this
spiritual truth and is also no illiterate in the scriptures that authenticate
submissions like we have made in it. It is therefore absolutely important
to make sure that you are completely empty without any possible
contamination particularly that which may be moral or even at your
perceptive state. Your thought must be honestly clean as well as your
action. In Luke 6:45 (WEB) the Bible says . . .

The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that
which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart
brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart,
his mouth speaks.

There is a very thin line between your heart and your actions. Your
actions become the expressions or manifestation of your heart’s
thoughts and fantasies. Immediately the devil succeed in filling your
heart with doubt or contaminating thought, he also succeed in stealing
from you your opportunity to receive a ministry from the almighty God
that you have so much prepared yourself for. In James 1:6-7 the Bible
says . . .
6
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is
like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For
that person must not suppose that a double-minded man, unstable in
all his ways, will receive anything from the Lord.

One of the most common missiles of assault that you would receive
from the devil at this stage is doubt. I encourage you to put all doubt
away from your heart believing that God IS; that he has all good; and
that he is ever ready to impart to his creatures whatever they need.

Have no doubt concerning the truth of this fundamental principle; in the

paragraph above, never suppose that God will not permit you to receive

58
from him, when you have been sincere and passionate for such cause.
Do not entertain the slightest iota of hesitation, be resolutely resolute.
The man who is not thoroughly persuaded that if he asks of God he
shall receive is compared to a wave of the sea; he is in a state of
continual agitation; driven by the wind and tossed: now rising by hope,
then sinking by despair. In Mark 11:24 (RSV) the Bible says . . .

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you
have received it, and it will be yours.

A man can hope for favour from God only as he puts confidence in him.
He sees the heart and if he sees that there is no belief in his existence or
his perfections, no real trust in him, no reliance on his promises, his
wisdom and his grace it cannot be proper that he should grant an answer
to that man’s petitions. There is to be no uncertainty, no doubtfulness,
and no indecisiveness of the mind. We are to come to God with the
utmost confidence and assurance in Jesus Christ for his readiness and
ability to give unto us if we ask in his son Jesus Christ’s name.

Remember that the devil would not just sit down and fold his hands and
watch you receive from the almighty God such a powerful ministry
which when it becomes operational would stand against his kingdom
business. Of course he would mount some strong roadblock and
opposition to either frustrate your attempt or discourage you completely
from entertaining such desire or hopes. In Ephesians 6:12 (BBE) the
Bible says . . .

For our fight is not against flesh and blood, but against authorities
and powers, against the world-rulers of this dark night, against the
spirits of evil in the heavens.

If the assault of Satan does not manifest in your hart in a form of doubt
it may be in the form of agitation. He would make sure that you become
so much burdened with very strong agitations that would either force

58
you to prematurely manufacture a ministry and ascribe it to God or you
receive from him (Satan) a counterfeit ministry. The worse that Satan
can achieve through this agitation is for you to give up entirely on the
quest or search for a ministry. In Habakkuk 2:3 (ASV) the Bible
says . . .

For the vision is yet for the appointed time, and it hasteth toward the
end, and shall not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will
surely come, it will not delay.

At this point all you need to do is exhibit absolute confidence in the

ability of the almighty God to give unto your bosom the ministry you
desire. Do not entertain doubt in your spirit. Now another thing you
would need to make sure is available to you during this time is single-
mindedness and understanding of the ministry you desire. Receiving is
much realisable when you know what you are asking because it is the
only way to recognise it when God give it to you. If you do not know
what you are asking, how would you recognise it when God gives it to
you?

There is this one other thing that you should know about what you ask
from God. It is said that when you are asking then ask specifically, ask
realistically and ask honestly. When these items are present in your
asking you would have little possibility of an unanswered prayer. In
Matthew 7:7 (NKJV) the Jesus said . . .

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and
it will be opened to you.

From the above scripture there is something I have learnt that I want to
share with you which I believe would stun you. I pondered in my search
what in the world did Jesus mean by the use of those three words; ask,
seek and knock. In my search for understanding I discovered that there

58
is an under covered word which binds all these three words, and that is
persistence.

What Jesus says by direct implication is that sometimes your receiving

what you desire from him may take at times more than just asking but
an extra effort though the possibility of your receiving from him is no
way dependent on how you ask but solely on his providence and grace.
Therefore Jesus says if you ask and you don’t receive get to the next
level which is ‘seek’. According to the WordWeb dictionary, the word
seek is translated as an attempt to locate or discover something. The
eleventh edition of the revised concise oxford English dictionary also
translate the word seek to mean the attempt to find (something).
Therefore Jesus says that make the effort to search or locate what you
are asking. In Matthew 7:8 (DBY) Jesus said . . .

. . . every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him
that knocks it shall be opened.

Very interesting Jesus anticipates even a more resolute position from

the point of view of the one desiring to receive from him. Jesus says if
you ‘ask’ and don’t receive move a step upward and ‘seek’, however, if
still you do not receive move to even the next higher level ‘nock’. the
mysteries I discovered in all these words used by Jesus are that 1. You
cannot ask if you do not know what you need. 2. You cannot seek if
you do not know what is available for your possession. 3. You cannot
nock if you do not know where to find what is available to you.

Another thing that you necessarily need to hang on to strongly to give

the devil no opportunity to contaminate you heart and spirit in order to
succeed in becoming a hindrance from receiving from the almighty God
is ‘believe.’ Make sure there is a strong presence of believe in the full
ability of God to fill you without hesitation for his ministry. In Matthew
21:22 (RSV) from the mouth of Jesus, the scripture says . . .

58
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you
have received it, and it will be yours.

In this scripture Jesus demonstrates the certainty with which we need to

ask from him. Does it not strike you Jesus’ use of present tenses and
past participles? Jesus says ‘whatever you ask in prayer, ‘believe’ that
you have received it.’ To Jesus Christ receiving is a certain fact when
you allow yourself to go through the preparations thoroughly and avail
yourself for his use.

Beloved in the Lord this is the state in which you have to position
yourself to receive from the almighty God the ministry you so very
much desire. Any deviation would amount to a spiritual disaster for
you. Your whole exercise would be waste if the devil succeeds in filling
you up first with contaminating thoughts or feelings.

At this point you are now all set to receive what God has destined to fill
you with. I have an understanding that may be deferent from the main
stream line of thought. God in his wisdom has given unto men and
women ministries and graces that should see us through the difficulties
and challenges of life.

This might be your time to break loose under the unction of the
almighty God to storm the world with the word of God. You can do
nothing but move in the all-powerful anointing of the almighty God and
shake the world.

I would want to add here that the filling of your spirit and heart with the
power and presence of God for his ministry may not necessarily be
grandeur. All the same there must be a manifestation of the filling. You
must experience the presence of the Holy Spirit in your heart and spirit.
This is meant to set you apart for the ministry that God would
commissioned you to for the rest of your life. In Acts of the Apostles
2:4 (ASV) the Bible says . . .

58
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak
with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (ASV)

One thing that you probably must prepare yourself for is that when the
spirit of God which should fill you for his ministry comes upon you, it
would show you forth to the challenges of your community or
generation.

To be filled with anything is a phrase denoting that all of your faculties

are pervaded by it, engaged in it, or under its influence. The miracle if
the day of Pentecost was not in the ears of the hearers, (as some have
unaccountably supposed,) but in the mouth of the speakers. I pray that
God announces you in a powerful manner to commission you into the
ministry of his dear son Jesus Christ our Lord.

Like in the text from the Acts of the Apostle quoted in the paragraph
above, when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples with the purpose
of filling them with the almighty’s Gods power for ministry they could
not be hid any longer. Remember because of fear of the authorities and
the brutalities being breathed on them for preaching in the name of
Jesus Christ they had found for themselves this upper room where they
worshiped in fear and panic. Notwithstanding the presence of this
gamut of fear and panic in which they gathered for worship, the Bible
says when the time came for God to fill them; they could not be hidden
any longer.

One key thing that must be present at this level of your preparation is
what I call the ‘disposition of expectancy’. Yes, you must be in the
mood of expectancy; where you empty yourself for God to fill it up like
you are doing right now. Remember the disciples gathered in the upper
room thought amidst fear in responds to the command of Jesus Christ to
wait for the Holy Spirit to fill them before venturing into ministry. In
Acts the Acts of the Apostles 1:4(RSV) the Bible says . . .

58
And while staying with them he charged them not to depart from
Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father . . .

Their determination and resoluteness was rewarded when the Holy

Spirit finally came and divided among them like the tongue of fire (Acts
2: 3) enabling them to speak mysteries in heavenly places that made the
will and massage of God heard by other people who had no knowledge
of it.

You cannot do away with the disposition of expectancy that is required

here to connect you with the promise of God to fill you up with his
Holy Spirit to commission you into a power packed and filled ministry
because the disposition of expectancy is the only thing that can see you
through.

PRAYER POINTS 4

This is the fourth prayer encounter, gradually you are getting there. Like
you did for the previous prayer encounters, you sought for a solitude
place away from the noises of the outside world amidst the spirit of full
seven days fasting and prayer. Here too you would need to do the same
for this prayer encounter as well. Ensure that you still honestly and
sincerely have humbled your heart and spirit before the almighty God.

You should consider every topic with the prayer that follow as together
but separated from each other as well so that you can give it all the
needed commitment and dedication.

1. Meditate deeply on the word of God that you have just finished
reading. (Psalm 77: 12; Josh 1: 8)

2. Find an appropriate song to praise and worship God. Let the

atmosphere be charged with your worship of God (psalm 7:17;
9:2; 69:30)

3. Thank God for the exposition and revelation that his word has
brought just as you have read and understood. (Dan 2:23; matt
11:25)

4. Make the confession that you think are needed to open up your
spirit for Gods touch. (Psalm 66:18)

5. Call upon God to open the flood gate of heaven and pour on you
the Holy Spirit. Seek it as if the next second of your life depend
desperately on it. Hold on to God to make available to you his
Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ. (Luk 3:22; Jon 20:22;
Act 1:8)

58

In 2 Chronicles 7:14 (ASV)
the Bible encourages that . . .

If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves,

and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal
their land.

58
STAGE 5
THE COMMISSIONING
STAGE

58
Before I start with this stage in the whole preparation process, let me
recount to you a biblical narrative, precisely from the Old Testament.
This story is to introduce us to come to understand what should be our
total output and responds to the commission of God that would be given
to you when you have faithfully and honestly by faith in the name of
Jesus have submitted yourself to the processes and prayers outlined in
this book helping to open you up to receive the spiritual gift or grace
that you have for so long a time sought for. This narrative is found in 1
king 13: 1-24.

According to the biblical record the story start with a man of God
coming from Judah by the word of the LORD to Bethel where
Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah and formerly a
servant in the service of Solomon who became the first king of Israel
had come out to the alter to make burnt offering. This prophet whose
name is not mention suddenly appeared and by the order of the Lord
made an outcry against the altar, saying, ‘O altar, altar, thus says the
LORD: 'Behold, a son shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by
name; and he shall sacrifice upon you the priests of the high places who
burn incense upon you, and men's bones shall be burned upon you.

After such a remarkable pronouncement of judgement upon the alter

this radical prophet of God supported the prophecy he has given with a
sign saying, ‘this is the sign that the LORD has spoken to prove what
had been spoken: 'Behold, the altar shall be torn down, and the ashes
that are upon it shall be poured out’. In the attempt to arrest the prophet
for such a radical prophecy against the alter the king Jeroboam had the
hand, which he stretched out against saying, ‘lay hold of him’ dried up
so that he could not draw it back to himself.

You probably are stun for such a powerful prophetic move by the power
of the almighty God at work in a prophet. The rest of the story
continues that immediately the altar tears down, and the ashes poured

58
out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had
given by the word of the LORD.

Convicted by the power of God displayed in the prophetic unction of

this man of God, the king Jeroboam entreat the prophet to plead the
favour of the LORD his God and pray for him so that his hand may be
restored to me. Well the all merciful God head the prayer of the prophet
and restored the hand of the king to an extent that it became as it was
before.

What I would want you to pay attention to at this point of the narrative
is what is going to happen from hence forth. In his attempt to reward
the prophet, the king Jeroboam invited the man of God to come home
with him and refresh himself so that he could reward him. The
prophet’s answer to this kind gesture by the king was rather not in the
polite manner. The man of God said to the king, ‘If he gives him even
half of his house he the prophet would not go with him. And he will not
eat bread or drink water in this place; for so was it commanded him by
the word of the LORD, saying, 'you shall neither eat bread, nor drink
water, nor return by the way that you came’. So with that the prophet
went another way, and did not return by the way that he had come to
Bethel.

In as much as this narrative is quiet interesting and captivating the deep

rooted spiritually inspired lessons and wisdom in it must not be glossed
over by excitement. There narrative continues that now in that same
town (Bethel) there dwelt an old prophet who God had rejected and no
longer communicated with. This prophets children came and told him
all that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; the words which he
had spoken to the king and how immediately God had wrought
judgement on the alter. Quickly the old god forsaken prophet asked
which way the man of God who came from Judah had gone. Following
the route which the man of God had taken, he eventually caught up with

58
him sitting under an oak. He asked if he was the man of God who had
come from Judah.

This old prophet whom God had forsaken long time invited the man of
God from Judah to return with him to bethel where God had sternly
forbidden him not to eat bread nor drink water or stay in the town for
even a day nor return by the way that he had entered the town, saying
‘come home with me and eat bread’ but the man of God who had
received his commission from the almighty God and knew the detail of
it and the total obedience always required by servant of God in
reference to their commissioned refused saying he would not return
with the old prophet or go in with him; neither will he eat bread nor
drink water in Bethel.

This old prophet told the man of God from Judah that he was also a
prophet as he was and that by the word of the LORD an angel had
spoken to him, saying, 'Bring him back with you into your house that he
may eat bread and drink water’. But he lied to him. So he went back
with the old prophet to Bethel and ate and drank water. As they sat at
the table to eat and drink in the house of the old prophet, the word of
the LORD came to the old prophet and he cried to the man of God who
came from Judah, ‘thus says the LORD, 'Because you have disobeyed
the word of the LORD and have not kept the commandment which the
LORD your God commanded you but have come back, and have eaten
bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, ‘Eat no
bread and drink no water’; your body shall not come to the tomb of
your fathers’.

The sad conclusion of the narrative is that truly to his word after the
prophet from Judah had eaten bread and drunk, the old prophet sent him
on his way but as he went away a lion met him on the road and killed
him. And his body was thrown in the road with the lion standing beside
it.

58
It is a long narrative I acknowledge, but also a sad story but most
importantly the lessons in it are gems that should be written on the door
post of your heart and mind as long as you have in your spirit the
commissioning of the almighty God. It was the prophet from Judah who
had received the commissioning from the almighty God outlying the
content of the message and its attendant punishment and restrictions.
What in the name of God did he return to Bethel with the old prophet
who God had rejected for so long a time and had also passed by to bring
a message through a prophet all the way from Judah?

What am I trying to communicate here; the commissioning of the

almighty God is always definite and absolute. He would not change his
mind about a message he has commissioned you to communicate
concerning something and by-pass you to use another person to
communicate the otherwise of it. Here are my supporting evidences that
when God give a message to you concerning something and latter
pardon’s and relent in pronouncing the recompenses of the massage he
would communicate his recompense to you and not through a deferent
person. In Jonah 1:1-2 (RSV) the Bible says . . .

Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai,
saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for
their wickedness has come up before me’.

In the above biblical narrative that recounts the commissioning of the

prophet Jonah and the message that he was to communicate to the
people of Nineveh. When Jonah had successfully delivered the content
of his commissioning to the townsfolk the narrative recounts that the
whole town showed remorse and repentant heart and cried unto God
when they had pronounced a national fasting and confession of sin from
the one day old baby up to the king himself. In Jonah 3:4-8 (RSV) the
Bible says . . .

58
Jonah began to go into the city, going a day's journey. And he cried,
"Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!" And the people
of Nineveh believed God; they proclaimed a fast, and put on
sackcloth, from the greatest of them to the least of them. Then
tidings reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne,
removed his robe, and covered himself with sackcloth, and sat in
And he made proclamation and published through Nineveh, "By the
decree of the king and his nobles: Let neither man nor beast, herd
nor flock, taste anything; let them not feed, or drink water, but let
man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them cry mightily
to God; yea, let everyone turn from his evil way and from the
violence which is in his hands.

The bible says that the God who is more loving and caring desiring that
not one of his children should be destroyed had mercy on the people of
Nineveh and pardoned their sins by not letting the attendant punishment
of Jonah’s message befall on them. In Jonah 3:10 (REV) we read . . .

When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil way,
God repented of the evil which he had said he would do to them and
he did not do it.

The point here is that when the almighty God pardoned the sin of the
people of Nineveh and relented on carrying out the punishment which
he had threatened through the message given through the prophet Jonah
God in his modus operandi revealed and communicated the same to the
prophet Jonah.

The second prove of this point is from an interaction that transpired

between the prophet Isaiah and the twelfth king of Judah, son of the
apostate Ahaz and Abijah who ascended the throne at the age of 25
called Hezekiah. This encounter is chronicled in the book of 2 Kings
20: 1 ff. according to the narrative in those days Hezekiah became sick
and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz

58
came to him, and said, ‘thus says the LORD’, 'Set your house in order;
for you shall die, you shall not recover’.

The narrative continue that the King Hezekiah turned his face to the
wall, and prayed to the LORD, making confessions and saying,
‘remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before
thee in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good
in thy sight and wept bitterly. According to the narrative as it unfolds
God had mercy on Hezekiah and pardoned his sins by relenting in
carrying out the punishment threatened but when he relented he did not
use a deferent prophet to relate his pardon to the king Hezekiah but the
very same prophet by whose utterances he had communicated his
message. In 2 Kings 20:4-6 (RSV) the Bible says that . . .

And before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the
LORD came to him: ‘Turn back, and say to Hezekiah the prince of
my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I
have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal
you; on the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD.
And I will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this
city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this
city for my own sake and for my servant David's sake’.

The point I am trying to prove to you that has made my words so plenty
is that you have to see how serious it is to receive a commissioning
from the almighty God instructing you to communicate a message or
otherwise to a person, a group of people or a nation and the urgency that
should be accorded the message and the total obedience that would be
required from you concerning the content, threatenings of punishment
or promises of blessing inherent in it.

You must understand at this point that you would never share your
commissioning with another person so therefore you should only look
up to God to advise you on the very commissioning that he has given

58
you. No human being is so much anointed to alter the commissioning
that the almighty God has given you.

The Lord out of the abundance of his grace and mercy would favour
you with a commissioning that may take a form deferent from what you
have regularly seen or read from the bible or observed your senior
pastor or bishop exhibit or teaches. At this point if you have honestly
and faithfully submitted your heart, mind and spirit to the total
preparation process your spirit would have become very sharp and
smart to the voice and calling of the almighty God. Most often in the
various biblical narratives that recount the commissioning of prophets
of old, no two of such prophets were called the same way though the
word of God is repeatedly said to have come to them.

Do not make the mistake of imitating another prophet’s commissioning

or style of operation, your commissioning may be peculiar and also
have a deferent way of communicating it. No two prophets exhibited
the exact way or regularly communicating the message they received
from the almighty God.

you would also need to be watchful of this one thing, your

commissioning may attract people and also both material and spiritual
resources that you would by natural means probably not be able to
acquire in the whole of your entire life. Listen, do not be confused by
the material resources that Satan would make available to you in order
to water down the radicality and forcefulness with which you would
need to communicate whichever divine assignment or message that God
would give you. In Jeremiah 1:7 the Bible says God told Jeremiah . . .

But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for to whomsoever
I shall send thee thou shalt go, and whatsoever I shall command thee
thou shalt speak. (ASV)

58
You must endeavour through self-discipline and constant waiting and
seeking of Gods face, counselling, prayer and fasting seek beyond all
things to sharpen your skill of hearing or seeing what at any moment in
time the almighty God would want to communicate to his people
through you. Do not trade this grace even for your eternal life. Learn to
depend and rely solely on God and the promptings of the Holy Spirit
given to you to teach you and guide you on how to function properly
and appropriately as a prophet of the almighty God.

Most of the times mere person like yourself have been graced by God to
receive such powerful manifestation of spiritual gifts but because of
arrogance and pride have abandoned the scriptures by which their spirit
is to be constantly educated to comprehend the mind and message of the
almighty to every generation and nation. You would need to guard and
protect with your life the gift that God almighty may favour you and
give unto you. Your downfall and disgrace would commence the very
day you allow the spirit of arrogance and pride to dominate your
thinking and self-imagination (Job 22:29; Mt 23:12; Lu 14:11; 1 Pe
5:6). Be careful also to quench not the Spirit that God has bestowed on
you gracefully and endeavour not to despise prophesying, prove all
things presented to you; hold fast that which is good; abstain
completely from every form of evil.

And the God of peace himself sanctify shall ensure to keep you wholly
and preserved your spirit and soul and body entirely without blame at
the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that has called you,
who will also do it.

Now my prayer to the almighty God for you as you commence this
journey of prophetic ministry is that unto him that is able to guard you
from stumbling, and to set you before the presence of his glory without
blemish in exceeding joy, to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus
Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and power, before all
time, and now, and for evermore. Amen.

4. Make the confession that you think are needed to open up your

total worship and adoration. Empty your spirit into the awesome
presence of the almighty God.

who will go for us . . .
