Safety Precautions
Thunderstorm
Do not perform operations on towers or poles with high voltage and AC power
during thunderstorms.
Working at Heights
When working at heights, be careful about objects falling down from a height.
Microwave
High power radio-frequency signals are harmful to human body. Do not stay too
close to the antenna in the emitting direction of the antenna when the microwave
communication equipment is working. When installing or maintaining an antenna
on the tower or pole installed with more than one antenna, avoid the strong
radiation from the other antennas.
IF Cable
Before installing or removing an IF cable, turn off the ODU power switch.

Installing ODU Cables
1. The place about 0.5 to 1 meter away from the cable entry window or outdoor cabinet
2. The place about 1 m away from the tower body to the outdoor cable tray
3. (Optional) Middle of the cable on the tower if the cable section on the tower is longer
than 60 m
4. (Optional) About 1 m away from the edge of the rooftop before the cable ladder is bent
(The horizontal cabling on the rooftop exceeds 30 m.)
5. (Optional) Middle of the horizontal cabling (The horizontal cabling on the rooftop
exceeds 60 m.)
The ground point depends on the installation mode and the length of the IF cable. Generally, an IF
cable must be grounded through at least three ground points. When the IF cable is longer than 60 m,
add another ground point for every additional 30 m.
According to ITU-T K.56, if the ODU is properly grounded, the IF cable can be grounded through the
ODU. In this case, you do not need to ground the IF cable separately under the ODU.
42
Installing ODU Cables
Select the installation position of the ground clip and strip off the IF cable sheath with electrician's
knife without any damage to the shield layer.
Secure the ground clip and waterproof it. For details about waterproofing measures, see page 49.
The angle between the ground cable and the cable it protects cannot be larger than 15°. When the
cable is vertically routed, the ground cable should be led from the top downwards.
The ground point at the bottom of the tower is usually grounded through the tower
body using a U-shaped clamp.
The ground point before the cable being led indoors is fixed on the ground bar at
the feeder window using OT terminals.
43
Checking the Installation

5 Before the IF cables are led into the room, they are grounded and drip loops are made
for them.
6 The minimum bending radius of the IF cable should be greater than 30 cm.
7 The IF cables are placed tidily and are not crossed or overlapped.
8 When the IF cable is bound on the wiring ladder or the cable tray, the spacing between
cable ties should be about 1 m.
10 The IF cables are attached with labels and are tied together in line with the
requirements. The labels are arranged neatly, facing the same direction.
11 Any surpluses of the IF cables are coiled in a loop with a diameter of at least 60 cm and
are tied on the pole or tower.
13 IF cables are not bent within a range 0.5 m above and below the ground clip.
14 The ground cable is routed from top to bottom. The angle between the ground cable and
the IF cable it protects is less than 15°.
After the ODU is unpacked, it must be powered on within 24 hours to prevent water vapor from
