Developing a Model For Predicting Lung cancer
Using Variational Quantum Classical Algorithms
Summary:-

• In this survey Paper, the author highlight the limitations of classical computers over the
quantum computers to solve certain problems
• The author emphasize how Quantum Computing and Classical Machine Learning
approaches can be used to predict and detect Lung Cnacer
• And he also proposed a hybrid model, which predicts the possibility of a patient
developing lung cancer when a number of features are given. The researcher called this
model as The Variational Quantum- Classical Algorithm.
• Firstly, the dataset was pre-processed, after that it was passed through a parameterized
Quantum Circuit (PQC), after applying post-processing techniques the output was used
for prediction of Lung cancer.

Comparison of Quantum and Classical Machine Learning Algorithm:-

Two important algorithms used in Quantum Computung Shor and Grover’s Algorithm were discussed
Shor’s Algorithm proved that in a Quantum Computer can be used to break the security of
conventional cryptographic system. Also, Grover’sAlgrithm can be efficiently implemented to search
for an element in unstructured database

Analysis of work done by the researchers:-

This work analyzed the performance of 4 distinct AI modelsin lung nodule cancer diagnosis, along with
their performance, when compared with physicians and radiologist reading accuracy.

Methodology used in this Survey paper:-

• In this research paper, the author focused on research papers published in the years between
2017 to 2021, and used Cross Industry Standard for Data Mining(CRISP-DM) methodology for
developing model that can predict Lung cancer.
• 648 papers were selected by two experienced physicians, that apply PICO framework
(Problem-Intervention- Comparison- Outcomes) to measure qubits in a quantum variational
circuit for prediction.
• Data is preprocessed in order to ensure data quality, with features like gender, age, smoking,
and medical history considered for analysis .
