DAILY LESSON PLAN

Learning Area: Science and Technology 9 Quarter: III

Date: 2/5-8/2024 Grade & Section: 9-St. Anthony

Content Standards: The unit, mole, that quantitatively measures the number of very small particles of matter

Performance Standard: Solve problems involving mass and mole relationship

The learners should be able to:
1. The learners should be able to use the mole concept to express mass of
I. MELC/Objectives substances; and
2. The learners should be able to determine the percentage composition of a
compound given its chemical formula and vice versa.
II. Content/ Topic: The Mole Concept
Textbook: Aquino, M.D. et.al (2017) Science Links Grade 9, Rex Book Store, Inc.
III. References
Madriaga, E.A. (2012). Science Links: Biology, Rex Book Store, Inc.

IV. Instructional
Laptop, PowerPoint, Projector, Learning Activity Sheet, Video, Chalk
Materials
V. Teaching Procedure
I. PREPARATION
A. Preliminaries
i. Prayer
ii. Checking of Attendance
A. Introduction: iii. Motivation

Answer what you know? The student will answer the question,
1. How do we count huge number of objects?
2. Give some examples that we use special counting units?

B. Interaction Day 1
A. Mass
a dimensionless quantity representing the amount of matter in a particle or
object.
How do we compute mass?
Mass = Density × Volume
Density is a substance's mass per unit of volume.
Volume is the amount of space occupied by any three-dimensional solid.

Another way to compute was

Total Mass = weight over Acceleration due to gravity(9.8m/ s2)

Is weight same as mass?

Weight is the force acting on an object due to gravity.
Mass is the quantity amount of matter in an object

Unit use in mass, density and volume.

Day 2
B. Mole
the amount of substance that contains the same number of entities (atoms,
molecules, ions etc) as the number of atoms present in 12g of the carbon−12
isotope.
1mole = 6.022×1023

Activity:
Answer Practice exercise 10.1 on your book, on page 253

Assignment:
Bring Periodic Table and Scientific calculator tomorrow

Day 3
C. Molar mass
the ratio between the mass and the amount of substance (measured in moles) of any
sample

How to solve for Molar Mass?

Molar Mass of an element is simply the atomic mass in g/mol.
Molar Mass can also be calculated by multiplying the atomic mass in amu by the
molar mass constant (1 g/mol).
To calculate the molar mass of a compound with multiple atoms, sum all the atomic
mass of the constituent atoms.

Activity:
Answer Practice exercise 10.2 on your book, on page 255

Day 4
D. Percent Composition of a Compound
is a ratio of an amount of each element to the total amount of individual elements in
a compound, which is then multiplied with 100.

Formula:

mass of element
% Composition = X 100
mass∨molar mass of compound

Activity:
Answer Practice exercise 10.4 on your book, on page 258

The student are given and essay activity

C. Integration 1. Why do we need to count particles?
2. Why do some product labels indicated percentage composition?
D. Closure/ Atoms and molecules are so small, the mole concept allows us to count atoms and
Generalization molecules by weighing macroscopically small amounts of matter.
E. Assignment Read about Volcanoes on page 271 of your book
Promote Cooperation
Respect the ideas of others
Values Integration
Practice sense of awareness and responsibility
Acknowledge the significance of symbols
