I. Introduction

In a world where sustainability is paramount, harnessing renewable

energy sources for everyday gadgets has become a necessity. Sun Bank aims
to introduce a solar-powered power bank, taking advantage of the abundance
of solar energy to provide eco-friendly portable charging solutions.

II. Smart Objectives

1. Design and develop efficient solar-powered charging stations capable of

storing solar energy for mobile charging
2. Optimize the design for durability, user-friendly, and eco-friendly
3. Increase accessibility to clean energy in the classroom
4. Promote renewable energy and energy conservation

III. Problem Statement

Traditional power banks solely rely on grid electricity that comes from
outlets for recharging, which contributes to carbon emissions that contribute to
environmental degradation. Aside from its environmental impact, cost of
electricity slowly increases which affects the financial stability of some
individuals. Also, in remote areas, during an emergency, or simply in our
classroom setting, access to electrical outlets may be challenging or
unavailable (KDM India, 2024). The proposed Sun Bank aims to confront these
issues by harnessing renewable solar energy, providing sustainable and
reliable power source for digital devices.

IV. Technical Details

The solar-powered power bank comes with a battery capable of storing

9000 mAh of charge. Supplied with a solar panel with a current rating of 0.4A
and 5V output. This power bank features a power module indicating the
capacity of the battery and the charging ports.

Materials
 18650 batteries (3 pcs 3000 mAh)
 Solar panel (Current rating of 0.4A)
 Power Module
 Housing
 Insulation
 Folding Stand
Tools
 Soldering iron
 Pliers
The prototype for the proposed project will follow this design:

Note: Proposed design may change subject to modifications done during the
construction of the proposed project.

V. Environmental Impact

Through the usage of solar energy instead of relying to grid electricity,

the project will aid in the reduction of reliability to fossil fuels and mitigate carbon
emissions. Since solar energy is a renewable source of energy, less use of
finite source such as coal and oil are promoted which provides less negative
effect to our natural resources (Chen et al., 2019). The primary goal of this
project is to promote energy conservation, by creating a means of storage for
electrical energy converted from solar energy, people are able to power their
devices.

VI. Cost Analysis

Items Quantity Price/Unit

18650 Batteries 3 ₱ 72
Solar Panel 1 ₱ 96
Power Module 1 ₱ 99
Foldable Stand 2 ₱0
Insulation 1 ₱0
VII. Timeline

March 6, 2024 – Project Proposal

March 13, 2024 – Gathering of Materials
Remaining of March to May – Construction of Project
June – Testing and Presentation

VIII. Risk Management

Our project requires materials that are ordered online which poses
technical challenges. Specifications shown online might not meet the actual
product ordered which might cause a difference in the proposed specifications.
One problem that might arise is the time of charging, since there is no
assurance that the output of the solar panel ordered online meet the
specifications we expect, delay in charging of batteries is directly affected.
Another issue that might occur is the overcharging of the power bank, even
though our proposed project includes a switch that stops the collection of solar
power and an indicator showing the capacity of the power bank, there is still
room for human error which is typically forgetting to turn off the switch. Lastly,
since the project relies on the collection of energy from the sun, availability and
weather conditions might provide inadequate supply of energy for the power
bank.

IX. Conclusion

The development of solar-powered power banks presents an innovative

solution to the growing demand for portable power sources while promoting
sustainability and environmental security. Through the help of the energy that
comes from our sun, harnessing its abundant energy and providing means of
storage will provide reliable and eco-friendly alternative to digital devices. The
approval of this project would contribute to the advancement of renewable
energy technologies and address the pressing challenges of energy access and
environmental conservation.
