ABSTRACT
Drivers use their hands, eyes, and feet to control the car but their
hands, eyes, and feet must be controlled by their brains. Safe driving
requires alertness and the ability to make quick decisions in rapidly changing
situations. Drinking alcohol can have a profound effect on driving skills. For
example, drinking can have a negative effect on any of these skills. It is
estimated that more than 10,000 young people in the United States are killed
and 40,000 are injured in auto accidents when alcohol is involved. The
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates more than 26,000
lives have been saved since the drinking age was increased to 21.

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, meaning various

automatic bodily processes are slowed following consumption. Additionally,
brain function slows and thinking, decision-making, and muscle coordination
is impaired. Each of these aspects is vital to driving. Alcohol has
compounding effects on the body, so increasing amounts in the circulatory
system have amplified effects.

A microsleep is a temporary episode of sleep or drowsiness which may

last for a fraction of a second or up to 30 seconds where an individual fails
to respond to some arbitrary sensory input and becomes unconscious.
Microsleep occurs when an individual loses awareness and subsequently
gains awareness after a brief lapse in consciousness, or when there are
sudden shifts between states of wakefulness and sleep. In behavioral terms,
MSs manifest as droopy eyes, slow eyelid-closure, and head
nodding.Microsleep often occur as a result of sleep deprivation, though
normal non-sleep deprived individuals can also experience MSs during
monotonous tasks.

Some experts define microsleep according to behavioral criteria (head

nods, drooping eyelids, etc.) while others rely on EEG markers.Since there
are many ways to detect microsleep in a variety of contexts there is little
agreement on how best to identify and classify microsleep
2
episodes.Microsleep is extremely dangerous when they occur in situations
that demand constant alertness, such as driving a motor vehicle or working
with heavy machinery. People who experience microsleeps often remain
unaware of them, instead believing themselves to have been awake the
whole time, or to have temporarily lost focus.

INTRODUCTION
Drunk driving and microsleep getting normalized by some irresponsible
people in our country. This rude action has been one of the reasons why
many accidents and deaths have happened as they drive subconsciously on
the road.

As to overcome this issue, we have found an effective way to reduce the

number of deaths caused by these subconscious driving cases. We have
invented an application named i-Sensor that consists of an alcohol sensor,
g-sensor and ultrasonic sensor. The number of car accidents could be slowly
controlled and may reach to only 5% of cases which happened not because
of drunk and subconscious driving. This application could sense or detect any
subconscious driving and alcoholic smell among the drivers by giving signal
to the drivers and the other road users. This is to ensure there are no
accidents.

4
METHODOLOGY

To apply the i-Sensor in a car, firstly we have to do the coding on the

arduino set that has been connected to the alcohol sensor to detect the
alcohol concentration.

Next, do the coding on the set of arduino that has been connected to
the ultrasonic sensor to detect if the car is too close to another object while
moving.

After that, connect this encoded arduino set to the tab to send
information and connect the car speed meter directly to the i-Sensor tab
programming to calculate the speed change, either it is increasing or
decreasing.

At this time, connect the dash cam that has been applied to a G-sensor
directly to the i-Sensor tab programming to detect sudden acceleration and
sudden change in car direction.

Finally, do the programming on the i-Sensor tab programme to give

signals to other vehicles if the car is found to be driven out of control. If the
situation persists, the car will stop slowly.

TARGET MARKET
At the beginning of our research, we have targeted these 3 groups to apply
our product in their daily lives:

1. Age above 18

We are targeting this group because in Malaysia, the minimum age to

take a car license is 18 years old. Therefore, they have a higher
potential to be involved in accidents because they have no experience
in handling critical situations.

2. Unmarried people

We target this group because those who are still unmarried always go
out at night to meet friends or play futsal together. So, they often come
home late and at the same time accidents related to drunk drivers often
occur at that time. They become a high-risk group to be involved in
such a fatal accident.

3. All types of vehicle company

We plan to make our products a mandatory requirement in every

vehicle in the future. This is because these two problems namely drunk
driving and microsleep are the main factors in the occurrence of
accidents that can be fatal in this pandemic time. Therefore, the level
of safety of a vehicle will improve and there will be less accidents
involving the loss of their innocent lives.

DISCUSSION
Alcohol sensors will detect the attentiveness of alcohol gas in the air. G-
sensor will detect a sudden change in direction and sudden acceleration
meter. Ultrasonic sensor will measure the distance to an object using
ultrasonic sound waves.

The only difference is that the alcohol sensor and the ultrasonic sensor will
send information to the i-sensor tab through the arduino set while the speed
meter and g-sensor will send the information directly to the i-sensor tab.

Then, the i-sensor tab will receive and analyze the following information:

1. Ethanol odor can be detected then, the tab will send information to the car
system so that it can not work.

2. If the speed increases dramatically and at the same time gets closer to
the object in the environment, the vehicle will signal to other road users and
drivers.

3. If the acceleration increases sharply and is in an uncontrolled state, the

vehicle will issue a signal and if continued the vehicle will stop gradually.

9
CONCLUSION
● i-sensor can be improved by diversifying its functions to be more
convenient in the future. This is because human beings will rely heavily
on the use of technology in the future to easen their daily life.

● The i-sensor tab can be improved by connecting GPS to the i-sensor

tab. Therefore, GPS can detect the maximum speed allowed in an area
so that its use is more futuristic.

● The i-sensor tab can be connected to other devices such as

smartphones to find out the movement and location information of the
vehicle.
