Main scripture: Mark 10:45

Supporting scriptures: 1Peter 4:10 – 11, Galatians 5:13, Hebrews 13:16, Hebrews 6:10

What is Service? Service according to the dictionary is “the action of helping or doing work
for someone”. As Christians our service in the kingdom should come from a place of love and
not duty. Our service can be in many facets such as praying for one another, preaching, worship,
cleaning the house of God and many more.

Examples of people who served faithfully in the Bible:

Jesus: John 17:12, 6:39
Paul: Romans 1:1, 2 Tim 2:9-10
The Prophets: eg Elijah, Elisha, Isaiah, Hosea, Jeremiah
David:
Challenges in servicing
Examples:
Criticism
Persecution – eg Paul (Phil 3:8), 2 Timothy 2:8 - 12
Self-doubt

Sin – 2 Timothy 2:20- 26

The cares of this world – Mark 4:18-19
How do we overcome the challenges?
Examples:
Praying – 1 Thess 5:16-18, Ephesians 6:18
Knowing who you are in Christ.
Confidence - Phil 1:6, Jeremiah 17:7
Loving - 1 John 4:16-18, Ephesians 4:2-3, 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Benefits of serving: Hebrews 6:10, Exodus 23 :25
Prosperity
You discover your purpose
Divine health
Fulfilled life
Generational blessings
Other examples?

Conclusion:
Brethren, serving God is not a choice. The kingdom we have been called to is all about
service. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ whiles on earth served (Matthew 20:28) so we
also are to serve one another. Our service does not only demonstrate our love, but it also
demonstrates our obedience to God.
Does our service attract challenges? Yes, our enemy, the devil knows the benefits of serving
God faithfully and he will do anything to distract you and I from doing this. We must
remember, know, understand that our service increases the kingdom. So, we must be
conscious of the face that whatever you and I find ourselves doing in the house of the Lord,
we need to do it to increase the kingdom and the devil will not be happy with it. Distractions
are part of the journey, so we need to be alert. Even Jesus faced distraction (Matthew 4:1-
11).
Our service comes with a lot of benefits that money cannot buy. So let’s rise up and serve
the Lord in gladness!
