the United States and Canada focused on business and
entrepreneurship. During MARK I, participants are immersed in
a highly competitive learning environment, and are taught by
business professionals from a variety of disciplines interested in
helping young people learn about business. In the end, the
experience empowers young people to know that they can
achieve their highest potential and equips them with business
knowledge that they can use for a lifetime. Participants are
better equipped for educational and professional success.
MARK I Participants learn:
Entrepreneurship
Teamwork

Community Service
Presentation Skills

Mark I student participants will be drawn from both sides of the
border. Approximately one quarter will arrive from the United
States to join a Canadian contigent which, in addition to
Toronto, will be drawn primarily from Montreal, Halifax, and
Ottawa among other cities.
The ultimate goal of the MARKI Emerging leaders program is to
motivate participants to consider a career in the future financial
service industry. MARK I accomplishes this by engaging
students in an experience based training program to
demonstrate practical business and character building skills
necessary for success in today's industry.
We aim to provide an enlightening experience to young people
who might otherwise not have a unique and fulfilling
opportunity like the one this program provides.
Diversity Career Expo
We are bringing togethe leading financial services companies
on both sides of the border together with the most talented
group of financial services professionals, drawn not only from
UFSC membership, but also from other visible minority
communities, through our alliances with other organizations
in the Black, Asian, South Asian and Aboriginal communities.

financial services companies, aligned to cross-border
business

ABOUT UFSC TORONTO
UFSC Toronto is a community-based non-profit organization primarily comprised of Black and visible minority
financial services professionals.
Our grassroots events and operations are focused on four key pillars:
Professional Development Our events, including guest speakers and substantive and soft skill workshops,
provide opportunities to develop leadership skills. Our focus is on professional growth and mobility for our
membership in a globally-connected industry. Past speakers have included financial services executive and TV
personality, Patricia Lovett-Reid (TD), Canadian market economists, Don Drummod (TD) and Dr. Sherry Cooper
(BMO), and Investor Relations leader, Peter Slan (Scotia) among many other powerful speakers from CIBC, RBC,
National Bank etc. to an audience of more than 125 each month.
Networking & Mentorship We interact with thought leaders at Canadas leading financial institutions. We act
as mentors to youth, seeking to inspire consideration of financial services as a viable career. Our Networking
program is underpinned by two unique offerings:
Canadians 4 Canadian (C4C) a dynamic mentorship program that allows high school students,
undergraduates, and young professionals to connect with young professionals who are currently
working in the financial or consulting industries via group conference calls and one-on-one discussions.
Mastermind a program targeted to experienced professionals, designed to enhance both soft and
substantive skills, from specific industry sector mentoring to networking, job search and personal style
coaching
Community Outreach We are visible as accessible leaders who are fluently bicultural, adept at speaking the
language of business and the language of our community.
Financial Literacy We are committed to building and sustaining wealth in our community, by educating on
financial planning and demystifying financial services and products to create a path to lasting prosperity.

UFSC Toronto was founded on the premise that financial services professionals from Black, immigrant and visible
minority backgrounds could elevate themselves through networking, professional development and knowledge
sharing with their peers. It was also founded on the promise that these same professionals, so empowered,
would share their experience, networks and potential as role models in their communities.
Our key mandates include:
encouraging financial literacy and financial independence among individuals in these communities
through education programs and partnerships with community organizations
demystifying the financial services industry for customers, students and potential employee talent in
these communities
offering a forum for professionals working in financial services, ranging from new graduates and
entrepreneurs to managers and executives, to network, develop their substantive and leadership skills
and learn from one another
providing role models for young people considering a similar professional path
Awareness Inspired - our theme for 2011
Each UFSC President seeks to make an
impact on the organization and
community in some special way. In
2009 we stressed the value of being
fluently bi-cultural, which was to
celebrate the importance in being able
to speak the language of the
community as well as the language of
business. In 2010 we committed
ourselves to Answer the Call of the
community, our members and
corporate partners. The resolve of the
2011/2012 administration is
Awareness Inspired:
(1) To create/inspire awareness about
UFSC Toronto and its members - who
we are, what we do, what we
represent;
(2) To inspire our members and
partners to get involved, participate
and to help spread the word about
UFSC Toronto; and
(3) To inspire awareness of those
issues which adversely impact our
communitys ability to succeed (e.g.
role models for youth, financial
literacy for the community).
6
Awareness Inspired and the 2012 Conference
The theme of Awareness Inspired will have a big place in our conference. We want to raise
awareness of changes we should anticipate in our industry and the opportunities that will
present themselves to those professionals who are prepared.
We hope to inspire awareness of the role models and mentors available to young people in
our community, regardless of what side of the border they live and work.
We want to draw the attention of our media partners to the work we will do in the community
that will have a lasting impact on the community's ability to realize economic success.
"Awareness without action is worthless."
Phil McGraw

Recruiting the Best
Our membership is made up almost exclusively of professionals in the financial services industry, ranging from junior to
senior level. The Conference (and our planned Diversity Career Fair) is your opportunity to engage with the most targeted
group of talent in the community which we serve. You will gain the visibility to become top of mind to an experienced pool
of candidates who get finance but also get big ideas. We expect our Partners to have access to this talent before the
rest of the marketplace.
Whats in it for Your Organization
We believe partnership with UFSC Toronto should empower our Partners not only to
do good, but to be seen to be doing good in the communities in which they operate.
Accordingly, our Partner programs are designed to be complementary to your
individual mandates and goals in collaborating with community organizations whether
those goals relate to professional development, diversity, corporate citizenship, branding,
recruiting, retention or customer outreach. Partnering with UFSC Toronto links you to the
diverse individuals, communities and markets that support your equally diverse business
aims.
Differentiated Value
We are uniquely positioned to assist Partners in reaching multiple audiences: the Black and visible minority community and,
within that community, talented finance professionals, young people and entrepreneurs seeking financial services
relationships. The broad reach of our Conference will enable our Partners to hit the mark on multiple fronts in their own
community outreach programs including Diversity, Talent Retention and Youth.
Leadership on Diversity
Our Partners are among Canadas leaders in Diversity. From forward-thinking business cases and equity practices to active
affinity groups and community outreach and recruitment programs, our Partners are leaders in promoting Diversity in the
financial services industry. Many view their work with UFSC Toronto as complementary to a proactive, culturally fluent
corporate Diversity program. We are also delighted to work with Partners to develop turnkey diversity programming and be
part of the discussion on best practices.

Tap into a ready-made community outreach network
The UFSC network extends beyond our immediate membership,
including, among others:
National Society of Black Engineers
National Black MBA Association
Ontario Black History Society
Toronto District School Board
Tropicana Community Services
Asians Without Borders
University of Toronto Black Students Association
Junior Achievement
We partner with like-minded community organizations and, where
appropriate, extend the exposure of our corporate Partners.
Sponsor feedback is not only encouraged, but required
Our Partners will always share in our success and we make special
effort to provide Partners with feedback on the initiatives their
support has enabled. We ask them to have an active voice in shaping
the agenda of our organization through our robust Corporate
Advisory Board. Our partnerships are highlighted in each meeting, in
all of our materials and collateral, on our website and on our event
signage. Sponsors receive persistent exposure to our membership,
media, community partners and the individuals impacted by our
initiatives.
Engaging Young People
UFSC Toronto has ambitious goals to engage with younger members of our community at the Conference. Part of our
mandate is to ensure the most talented young people are giving consideration to financial services as a career option, and to
provide financial literacy resources to our community. Your partnership will enable us to extend our reach, both at the
Conference and as an organization.
Funding model integrity
We know that to justify spend on a community organization, our Partners require a tangible
return on their investment and confidence in us. We aim to deliver and reward that faith. Our
sponsorship levels will never be a moving target and our funding model will remain transparent.
Beginning in 2010, we have published an Annual Report of our activities, funding and management
discussion and analysis of our efforts and the use of our funding. Partners have input on where your
support will make the most impact for UFSC, our community and your goals in working with us.
