Lecture 10 – SWOT Matrix Worksheet

Fill in the personal SWOT matrix below. The following questions may help you get started – use the
ones that are relevant for you.

Strengths:

● What do you do best?


● What are your skills?
● What are your positive traits?
● What productive habits do you have?
● What other helpful habits do you have?
● What advantages or resources do you have? (i.e., professional network, supportive
community, life/work experience).
● What characteristics do you have that give you an advantage in your academic field?
● Which of your values are you most proud to have?

Weaknesses:

● What skills gaps do you have?


● What resources do you need but don’t currently have?
● What traits do you have that may hold you back in your career?
● What habits do you have that reduce your productivity?
● What other unhelpful habits do you have?
● What fears do you have that may be holding you back from achieving your goals?

Opportunities:

● Do you know anybody who could help you reach your goal?
● Are there changes in your community/industry/society that you can use to reach your goals?
● How could technology help you reach your goals?
● Is your industry in need of a change that you can help bring about?
● What are you good at, that needs to be done, which nobody else is currently doing?

Threats:

● What obstacles do you have on a daily basis?


● Are any of your weak areas preventing you from succeeding, or making it more difficult for
you to succeed?
● Are your circumstances limiting you? For example, do you work in an industry or company
that doesn’t recognise the value your department brings?
● Are changes in one area of your life holding back progress in other areas?
● Are there changes in your industry which may affect your progress?
