Question:
A thin uniform rod of length L and mass M is restricted to rotate with angular velocity w (omega) about
an axis passing through center O of the rod and making an angle A with rod find the angular moment L
about O is perpendicular to rod and its magnitude.

Solution:
To find the angular momentum L of a thin uniform rod rotating about an axis passing through its center
O, at an angle α (alpha), we can use the following approach.

Given parameters:

o Length of the rod, L

o Mass of the rod, M
o Angular velocity, ω (omega)
o Angle of rotation, α (alphaα)

Find the moment of inertia:

The moment of inertia of a uniform rod rotating about its center is given by:

1 2
L= ML
12

Determine the perpendicular distance from the rotation axis:

Since the axis passes through the center of the rod, the perpendicular distance from the axis to any point
L
on the rod is .
2

Calculate the angular momentum L:

The angular momentum L can be given as:

L=Iωsinα

Using the moment of inertia, the angular momentum L becomes:

1 2
L= M L ωsinα
12
2
Determine the magnitude of the angular momentum:

The magnitude of the angular momentum vector L is given by:

1 2
¿ L∨¿ M L ωsinα
12

the angular momentum L about the center O is given by:

1 2
L= M L ωsinα
12

And its magnitude is;

1 2
¿ L∨¿ M L ωsinα
12
