I. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT
BEFORE YOUR QUIZ
• It is advised that you make use of a recommended browser such as Google’s
Chrome or Microsoft’s Edge browsers. While you may use Apple’s Safari browser,
we are unable to provide support for it. It is highly recommended that even Apple
iOS device users use either Edge or Chrome instead of Safari.
➢ Under no circumstances can you attempt the Quiz using the Moodle app. It
will simply not work.
• You must ensure that you clear the recommended browser’s cache or history
including cookies.
• Never skip to the next question without selecting an answer to a question.
You will not be able to go back to that question.
• You must also ensure that you are trying to access the examination site from
https://claw.myexams.unisa.ac.za/.

II. ERRORS

Please note that we cannot always assist with unique device issues that occur on
certain devices.

The following are common errors that you may encounter based on the device you are
using.
• The “storedfilecannotcreatefile” pop-up may occur on some devices. It does not
affect your attempt, however. Simply close it when it pops up.
• An out of sequence error occurs when you try to access a question you have
already closed by clicking “Next”.
• Some devices may frequently ask you to allow the camera. This is a unique
device issue. You must keep allowing the camera until you complete your
exam.
• Some students who manage to start an attempt experience or see a blank or
black webcam screen during a quiz attempt. DO NOT PANIC and DO NOT SEND
LECTURERS EMAILS ABOUT THIS. The camera is working in the background.
• If you CANNOT start the quiz, see the guidelines on page 3 “1. STARTING THE
QUIZ”.

1. STARTING THE QUIZ

QUESTION: “I am not able to start the quiz”/ “I cannot start the quiz” / “When I
click the “start attempt” or “orange” button, it just shows a red circle”.

You will typically encounter this issue when you have not permitted or allowed the site
to access your cameras within your browser.

1.1 SOLUTION

Solution(s):

You must allow the site to access your device camera before trying to start the attempt.
This action is normally triggered automatically when you open the Quiz homepage.
Should you have denied access to the site beforehand, you will have to manually allow
the site to access the camera under the recommended browser’s site settings/site
permissions.

1.2 DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO MANUALLY ENABLE CAMERA ACCESS.

GENERAL

1. Make sure that you are on the CLAW myExams site.

2. Follow the instructions below on how to allow the camera for your
specific browser.

1.1.1 EDGE BROWSER (DESKTOP):

EDGE BROWSER (DESKTOP):

Click the padlock next to the web address and click Permissions for
the site. Under the permissions, change the permission for Camera to
"Allow". Student must then reload the site.

1.1.2 CHROME BROWSER (DESKTOP)

CHROME BROWSER (DESKTOP):

Click the padlock next to the web address and click Site settings. Under
the site settings, change the permission for Camera to "Allow". Student must
then reload the site.

1. In the Chrome browser click on the 3 dots/buttons on the top-right side of the screen.

2. Click on "Settings".

5. Flick the button on the right so that it shows the camera is Allowed.

1.3 ADDITIONAL TIPS

NB! The student must ensure that they have not blocked the app from accessing
their camera in their phone’s app settings.

After making the appropriate changes, students must then reload the site and
attempt to start the quiz again.

 A blank camera on your quiz during an active attempt is not an issue. Your
submission will still be marked.

2 NAVIGATING THE QUIZ

QUESTION: “I cannot go back to my previous answer” / “When I try to go back, it

gives me an error”

Solution:
MCQ examinations in the College of Law are linear. You are therefore not allowed to go
back to the previous question once you have clicked on “Next”.
Please refer to the Examinations instruction below:
Please note that the exam questions appear in sequential format. This means that you will see
the questions one at a time and that you will NOT be able to go back to a previous question
after you have clicked 'Next.

3 SUBMITTING THE QUIZ

QUESTION: “I am unable to submit” / “the submission button does not work”

Solution:
This issue typically occurs on some older-issue software Android mobile devices.
The quiz will be submitted automatically once the timer runs out.
