School Assessment
Purpose
Students produce two tasks in the design process and solution assessment type
that will provide evidence of the investigation and planning stages of the Design
Process.
Students are tasked with creating a design brief that provides the basis for the
development of potential solutions for your Resin coffee table with a theme of your choice.
Students will select and use appropriate technologies skillfully and safely to produce high-quality
designed solutions suitable for the intended purpose.

Task Description
Task 1- Investigation
- Students will use the design process to investigate and analyse existing products for their features
and aesthetics.
Task 2 - Plan
- Students will design and plan to make a product (solution), based on what features and aesthetics
appealed to them in Task 1

Assessment Conditions

Task 1
Evidence of this assessment type should be provided in multimodal form to a maximum of 4 minutes, 400
words in written form or a combination of these.
Task 2
Evidence of this assessment type should be provided in multimodal form to a maximum of 4 minutes, 400
words in written form or a combination of these.

For this assessment, students will provide evidence of their learning in reference to the following
assessment design criteria:

 Knowledge and Understanding

 Processes and Production Skills

Task 1 – Investigation
Blackfriars Priory School Grade:

Students will use the investigation process to investigate and analyse existing products for their features
and aesthetics.

Evidence of task 1 should be provided in multimodal form to a maximum of 3 minutes, 400 words in
written form or a combination of these.

1. Need Identification: (50 words)

Identify a need, problem or opportunity.

Example: At the moment in my living room, I have a space where I would like to be able to place my coffee
cup and phone down while I’m watching the Adelaide crows with my family. The problem is I have nothing
in place to do this.

2. Research and Analysis (minimum of 3 images)

Research and analyse factors that will inform your design brief. Analyse existing products for their
features and aesthetics (Consider materials, production techniques, pre-existing designs/projects)

Task 2 – Plan

Students will design and plan to make a product (resin coffee table), based on what features and
aesthetics appealed to them in Task 1.
Blackfriars Priory School Grade:

Evidence of task 2 should be provided in multimodal form to a maximum of 3 minutes, 400 words in
written form or a combination of these.
