a. Explain the mechanical properties of materials.

c. Explain the various types of beams and types of loads on the beam.
d. Define Section modulus and radius of gyration.
e. What do you understand by the term simple bending? Explain with example.
f. Distinguish between direct stress and bending stress.
g. Write the assumptions made in Euler’s theory. Explain its limitations.
h. Define Truss and Explain a) Perfect Frame b) Deficient Frame c) Redundant Frame

SECTION-B
Q2. Attempt any one question. 1x10=10
i. Find the moment of inertia of T Section having dimensions 100 × 100 × 10 mm about XX axis and
YY axis passing through the C.G. of the section.
ii. A beam 10m long is supported at two points 7m apart having over hangs of 1m and 2m at left

hand respectively. It is loaded with point loads of 4 kN and 2 kN at a distance of 2m and 5m from
the left support and a point load of 2 kN at the extremity of right hand overhang. Draw SFD and
BMD showing important values.

iii. A bar of 20mm in square cross-section is subjected to a tensile load of 15 kN and the measured

extension over a length of 200 mm was found to be 0.20mm. The contraction in the lateral
dimensions was 0.006. Determine Modulus of rigidity.

iv. A column of timber section 150× 200 mm is 6m long with both ends fixed. If Young’s modulus of
