Halliburton has developed a lightweight cement

specifically for when lost circulation has occurred. This
cement slurry contains selected components that
impart the needed rheological and mechanical
properties to the cement to help cure losses.
SentinelCem cement can be made acid soluble and
hence can be used across producing zones.

07: The Technologies

SentinelCem cement is very easy to mix, has a low
viscosity to aid in full-coverage placement while
pumping, and develops early gel strength and
compressive strength. These properties help in curing
losses when the slurry enters the fractures and small
or medium vugs. As the slurry enters the loss
circulation zones the slurry velocity is reduced and the
slurry begins to gel due to the reduction in shear rate.

The slurry would become liquid again, for a few cycles,

if the shear is re-applied. Features such as thixotropy,
bonding to the formation, and dynamic pumping time
independent of temperature, increases the probability
of curing the losses with this cement system. The
cements slurry develops both early gel strength and
compressive strength when the shear is reduced.
