National:
IHM Bhubaneswar to Setup First Sattvik Centre of
Excellence in India
· India's first-ever SAI National Centre of Excellence to train athletes in
mountain terrain biking and bicycle motocross will be set up in Shimla by the
Sports Ministry in collaboration with the Youth Services and Sports
department of the government of Himachal Pradesh.
· The collaboration between the centre and the state to set up this world-
class facility was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding on March 23.
· The NCOE is being set up to provide world-class training facilities to Indian
cyclists so that they can compete for the 18 Olympic medals in the
disciplines of MTB and BMX.

10-day mega Red Fort Festival - Bharat Bhagya Vidhata

· The ten-day mega Red Fort Festival - Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, kick started
from at Red Fort in Delhi.
· Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani inaugurated the
festival.
· The Red Fort mega festival-Bharat Bhagya Vidhata is being organised as
part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav by Ministry of Culture.
· The Red Fort festival is to commemorate the heritage of the country and
culture of every part of India.
· The festival Bharat Bhagya Vidhata will help everyone to appreciate the
diversity of India.
· More than 70 master craftsmen have displayed their craftsmanship at the
venue.

· Yogi Adityanath was sworn in as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh for the
second consecutive term.

· This was followed by the oath taking of deputy CMs Keshav Prasad
Maurya and Brajesh Pathak.
· 50 other Ministers in the new cabinet also took oath on the day which

· Many of Yogi's former cabinet colleagues could not manage to get
ministerial berths this time.
· Despite having lost the recent assembly elections, Keshav Prasad Maurya
continues to remain the deputy chief minister while cabinet minister in
previous government Brijesh pathak has been elevated to the deputy cm post.

Anurag Thakur launches TEJAS skilling project at Dubai

Expo
· Union minister Anurag Thakur, who is in Dubai to participate in the India
Pavilion in Dubai Expo 2020, launched Training for Emirates Jobs And Skills
(TEJAS).
· The skill India international project to train overseas Indians, aims at skill
enhancement, certification and overseas employment of Indians.
· The initiative also aims to create pathways to enable the Indian workforce
to get equipped for market requirements in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)

All five nominees of AAP from Punjab elected unopposed to

Rajya Sabha
· All the nominees of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) from Punjab have been
elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha.
· The nominees include IIT Delhi Professor Sandeep Kumar Pathak, Raghav
Chadha, the founder of Lovely Professional Unversity Ashok Mittal,
Industrialist Sanjeev Arora and cricketer Harbhajan Singh.
· The five Rajyasabha members from Punjab Sukhdev Singh, Partap Singh
Bajwa, Shwait Malik, Naresh Gujral and Shamsher Singh Dullo are retiring on
9th April this year.

Governor of the year: Mario Marcel
· Chile’s governor has expertly navigated a third currency crisis in two years,
amid wider EM stress and political volatility, while bolstering the central
bank’s capabilities.
· When Mario Marcel was named governor of the Central Bank of Chile
(BCCh) in October 2016, he took over the leadership of an institution that had

secured a reputation as one of the most independent and well-run central

banks in Latin America.
· Marcel took steps to further improve the institution. He changed its
internal management structure, reducing the number of monetary policy
meetings from 12 to eight.
· The BCCh also improved the quality of its communications in both English
and Spanish. But the BCCh’s reputation, as well as Marcel’s own, would be put
to a severe test from 2019.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das inaugurates Reserve Bank

Innovation Hub (RBIH) in Bengaluru
· RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das inaugurated the Reserve Bank Innovation
Hub (RBIH) in Bengaluru, set up with an initial capital contribution of Rs 100
crore to encourage and nurture financial innovation.
· The Hub has an independent Board with Senapathy (Kris) Gopalakrishnan
as the Chairman and other eminent persons from industry and academia as
members.
· The RBI has set up the RBIH as a Section 8 company under Companies
Act, 2013, with an initial capital contribution of Rs 100 crore to encourage and
nurture financial innovation in a sustainable manner through an institutional
set-up.

Science & Technology:

India reports 19% jump in TB cases in 2021: India TB Report
· India reported a sharp 19 per cent rise in tuberculosis cases in 2021 over
the previous year, revealed the India TB Report 2022 released by the Union
Health Minister.
· The total number of incident TB patients (new and relapse) notified during
2021 were 19, 33,381 as opposed to that of 16, 28,161 in 2020.
· At the same time, there has been an increase in the mortality rate due to all
forms of TB between 2019 and 2020 by 11 per cent in India. In absolute
numbers, the total number of estimated deaths from all forms of TB
excluding HIV, for 2020 was 4.93 lakh, which was higher by 13 per cent than
the 2019 estimate.

· Incumbent Himanta Biswa Sarma was re-elected unopposed as the
president of Badminton Association of India (BAI) for a second term of four

years — 2022 to 2026 — during its General Body Meeting.

· Sarma, who is also the current Chief Minister of Assam, was elected as
BAI chief for the first time in 2017.
· He is also a Badminton Asia vice president and a member of the
Badminton World Federation Executive Council.
· Former junior national coach Sanjay Mishra will be the new general
secretary of BAI with incumbent Ajay Kumar Singhania becoming vice
president in the new Executive Council.

International Film Festival of Kerala to come to close in
Thiruvananthapuram
· Twenty-sixth edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will
come to close in Thiruvananthapuram.
· Minister KN Balagopal will inaugurate the valedictory function, while
Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherial will announce the winners of the IFFK
awards.
· Popular actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui and writer T. Padmanabhan will be
guests of honour.
· The film which bags the Golden Crow Pheasant will be screened at the
event.
· In all, 173 films drawn from different categories including internationally
rated movies have been screened in the eight-day festival.

October 5 to be celebrated as National Dolphin Day

· Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav informed that October 5th has
been designated as National Dolphin Day to be celebrated every year to
create awareness for conservation of Dolphins.
· Mr Yadav stated that generating awareness and community participation
is integral for conservation of the indicator species.
· He chaired the 67th meeting of the Standing Committee of the National
Board for Wild Life in New Delhi.
· Considering that generating awareness amongst the people on the
benefits of conservation of Dolphins is important, the Standing Committee
recommended that every year 5th of October should be celebrated as
National Dolphin Day.
