Item one(10 scores)

Understanding kinetic theory and Brownian motion helps in thermal engineering and pollution control.
Engineers use kinetic theory in designing heating and cooling systems, like refrigeration and air
conditioning.

Task.

Having studied Physics;

(a). State the kinetic theory of matter.

(b). With the aid of diagrams, describe the arrangement of particles in solids, liquids and gases.

(c) Explain the term Brownian motion .

Item two (10 scores)

1. In a certain school, the senior one classroom block is located about 200metres

from the school girl latrines. However,on hot days learners sense a bad smell from

these latrines. This affects their afternoon lessons every day.

TASK:

a) Explain why learners are able to detect this bad smell yet their class room is far

from the latrines (04 scores).

b) Advice these learners on the possible measures they can take to reduce this bad

smell (06 scores).

Item three (10 scores)

Four different groups of students were urging about the length of window of their class, some were
saying its 10,000cm by 75,000mm as the length and width of a standard football pitch. The teacher
found them arguing and gave them an assignment to solve the argument.Since each group worked
independently, they ended up presenting their research findings in different units as shown in the table
below.

Task

(a) As a physics student, what term in physics is used to refer to the act the four groups were doing

before the teacher came me to solve the argument.

ii) As the student coordinator in the school help your friends from different groups to

work together by using standard unit of measurement of length for all groups..

(c). Briefly explain two reasons why you think different groups obtained different values

after the measurement.
