CHAPTER 2: TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE MACHINE

2.1 General Description

The apron feeder has been designed to receive raw material from a wheel loader, dumper
truck or belt conveyor, and to transfer it through a metal belt installed inside the box feeder.
The raw material feed rate is governed by the speed of the apron (belt) and the position of a
guillotine.

Box feeders enable:

- regular feeding.
A regular flow of material ensures a rational utilisation of all the machines in a line and their
efficient operation without interruptions due to clogging.
- mixtures of different materials.
When it is advisable to supplement the basic material with important additions of other
elements, an appropriate number of feeding machines is used.

An important function of the box feeder is that it makes it possible to run the upstream
machines and the downstream machines independently, in case of short and frequent
stoppages of some of them. Its capacity, i.e. the amount of material contained, acts as a
driving force.
For this purpose the capacity of the standard box feeder is often increased by the addition of
large hoppers.

The apron feeder is installed:

- at the entrance of the raw material building/plant;

- downstream from the intermediate storage bins (silos);
- between groups of machines to keep them independent.

The machine comprises the following main parts (Fig.2-1):

- belt drive unit (1)

- belt take-up unit (2)
- a mainframe with the sides of the box (3)
- an apron with curved blades (4)
- a gate to adjust the feed rate (5)
- apron reel (6) (optional)
- scraper (7)
- discharge chute (8)
- loading hopper (9) (variable execution)
- cleaning system (10) (optional)
- balance (11) (optional)

2.2 Principle of operation

The material is loaded into the loading hopper (9) from a wheel loader, dumper truck or belt
conveyor. The material is carried by the curved blade apron (4) through the adjustable
opening gate (optional) (5). The combination of apron speed and gate opening determines
the feed rate. The paddle wheel (6, optional) located near the discharge end provides a more
regular feeding, by avoiding that the next machine is fed lumpy material.
All these items are fixed to a steel mainframe (3) as shown in Fig.2-1.

Belt drive unit (1).

It mainly consists of a drive roller fixed to the frame of the machine by two supports. This
roller is operated by a motor-powered system which varies depending on the application. It
also withstands and transmits motion to the metal apron through which it moves the take-up
roller.

Belt take-up unit (2).

It consists of a return idler roller fixed to the mainframe by two supports. It supports the metal
apron driven by the drive unit and keeps it tight through careful tension screw adjustments.

Mainframe (3).
It is made up of electric welded parts and is supported by legs which are bolted to it. The
position of the supports has been specially studied to enable the machine to be transported
on articulated lorries and assembled using standard hoisting and lifting equipment.

Curved blade apron (4).

The main function of the metal apron, which is made up of curved plates, is to carry the
material. As mentioned in the previous paragraphs, it is driven by the drive unit, and it is kept
aligned and centred by side rollers and its carrier wheels.

Gate (optional) (5).

This gate or lock is adjusted according to the speed of the metal apron to determine the raw
material feed rate.

Apron reel (6).

The apron reel can be supplied as optional extra if the feed material contains lumps which
need to be broken. Its rotation allows to break up the lumps so as to obtain a regular feed
product.

Scraper (7).
The scraper is normally located at the discharge end of the feeder to keep the metal
apron clean.

2.3
E E.RNS 10/2500 AB.02A.00

2 - Technical description of the machine

Discharge chute (8).

Its size is determined at the design stage, according to the type of material conveyed and the
size of the next machine. Through this chute the processed material is conveyed to the next
machine.

Loading hopper (9).

Like for the discharge chute, the size of the loading hopper is determined at the design stage
according to the inlet dimensions of the box feeder and on the type of equipment used to load
the material. The loading hopper allows to convey the material to the metal conveyor.

Cleaning system (10).

Its purpose is to clean the lower part of the box feeder. It may be a simple belt conveyor, but
more often it consists of parallel strands of chains with blades which scrape any excess
material off bottom of the feeder.

Balance (optional) (11)

It is possible to install one balance (if previewed from contract), like indicated in
Fig.2-1. The balance has the scope to control the weight of the passage material over the
metallic carpet (or tape) before the final drainage of the apron feeder.

N.B. In case of installation from part of the Customer, we recommend to ask some
important details the Technical Office Bedeschi.

3.4 Noise

The machine is planned and manufactured in order to reduce from the spring its noise. Its
noise depends on the movement of its mobile machine members, on the type of the worked
product, but also on the surrounding in which it is installed and on the noise that results from
the working of the near machines.

Procedures

The surveys are made with a sound level meter: DELTA-OHM 8701. The values are
measured according to the regulation: ISO 3744, placing the instrument with a distance from
the spring of noise of 1 metre and of 1,6 metres of height.

Personnel assigned to the assembly and necessary equipment.

The necessary personnel for assembly is generally established at contractual phase since
the number of persons and type of qualification required is in operation in accordance to the
size and complexity of the machine and/or of the system of which the machine makes part.

The equipment necessary for the normal assembly operations is the responsibility of the
Client, apart from other contractual agreements and is composed of normal toolroom which
can then be used for normal operations of maintenance which could be carried out in future.
Generally the supervision staff is not equippped with own equipment, if not specifically
requested.

4.8 Cleaning

ATTENTION: Before carrying out an operation on the machine it is necessary to

switch off the electrical supply positioning to OFF “0” the general isolator as
specified in the safety norms.

Disposal of the oils

Some of the components of the machine, such reducers and boxes gears, contain some
lubricating oil which, at the time the machine is out of service, must be collected and
disposed of in accordance with the guidelines of the norms in force.

WARNING: Never disperse in the environment exausted oils, grease, combustible or

other polluted fluids.

Disposal of the production refuse

For bay components such as electric cables, electric motors, rubber (gasket, transport
belts), plastic materials, to carry out a subdivision for tipology, then entrust for the disposal,
agencies authorised for single tipology.
For the remainder, the machine results built predominantly in common steel and stainless
steel (Aisi 304) for which there are no particular disposal procedures in place.

4.10 Storing of machine

In the event of prolonged storing leave the machine protected from rain and wind and if
possible in a dry place.
Carry out possible interventation of lubrication as reported in paragraph “LUBRICATION IN
THE EVENT OF PROLONGED STORAGE” of the chapter LUBRICATION.
It is not advisable to cover the machine with a waterproof tent because it would prevent the

Functioning and use - 5

CHAPTER 5: FUNCTIONING AND USE

5.1 Applications, destinations for use

- at the entrance of the raw material building/plant;

- downstream from the intermediate storage bins (silos);
- between groups of machines to keep them independent.

5.2 Characteristics and functioning limits

The machine catches up one nominal production of 105 Ton/h, to one approximate
temperature of 50°C.
To stay within the safe operation range for this machine, the max speed of the metal apron
and the cleaning system should not exceed the 20% of the pre-set/pre-arranged Hz.

WARNING: The machine must be used within the limit of running, encumbrances, supported
loads, material and productivity described in the present manual. The equipment intended as
configuration of the machine, must be those reported in chapter 02 of this manual and in the
handbook replacement parts, explicitly planned and produced by the constructor.
The non adherence of such instructions, aimed at security, discharges the manufacturer of
every responsibility.

5.3 Scheduled and not scheduled use, agreed uses

The machine has been designed and manufactured to unload and transfer material from one
point to another, or from one machine to another by means of a closed-loop metal conveyor
supported and driven by special rollers of different types.
The used product and the production/hour of the machine are defined in contractual phase.
The machine should not be used with different products other than those which it has been
built. The machine is in any case planned and built in order that there are no risks to the
operator, in case of eventual break for the improper use of the products that derive from the
raw materials defined with the contract.
It is recommended not to exceed the capacity limits or course, because the machine can
become damaged and generate serious risks to persons and things.

In any event of malfunction, breakdown, breakage etc., always consult the present use and
maintenance manual before operating the machine and eventually to contact the Service
Department of Bedeschi SpA.

WARNING: If usage does not comform to the one recommended Bedeschi SpA does
not assume any responsibility for damages to the machine, things or persons.

5.4 Perimeter accessibility and work placement

The encumbrance dimensions are reported in chapter 03 – TECHNICAL DATA.

There do not exist separate parts or accessories positioned on the ground which limit or are
an obstacle to the perametral access of the machine.
To leave necessary lateral space for the passing on the ground of personnel and of possible
transport carriages for the work and maintenance stages.
The machine is operated automatically. No stationary work positions are required during
normal operation.
Maintenance and repair operations must be carried out standing on one side and in front of
the machine (Fig.5-1).
Checks and adjustments during production must be carried out standing on one side of the

Danger and avoidable risks

WARNING: Unavoidable Dangers and risks can occur, if the machine is not correctly
operated and these are:

- without shooting protection carter;

- when the inspection doors are open (or simply without a padlock),
represents a serious risk to the operator or anyone who should walk near the machine when
it is in operation.
We call the attention of the user for follow scrupulously the a.m. precautions, in particular
during the adjustment phases and starting of the machine, when, for make easy the action,
usually they do not give the right attention to the safety measures.
All the adjustment and/or camping of the different components must be executed on a
condition of motionless machine. It is extremely dangerous to execute the adjustments during
the motion of the machine or simply to control the right position of the components.

All the maintenance operations:

- change/topping up oil and grease;
- worn or broken pieces replacement.

Before execute the a. m. operations, the operator must be sure that for no reason there is the
risk that the machine starts automatically.

Do not get on the machines when they are in operation. This is very dangerous.

We call the attention of the operator to the feeding area of the machine: this area, that has to
permit the material entrance, can not be crossed with fix or mobile protections and therefore it
is a critical and dangerous point of the machine.

5.6.2 Risks of general type and due to dangerous combinations

The machine is constructed from complex parts, whose functioning can be managed from a
commando software who commands starting, syncronisms, regulations etc., of the machine
of the entire structure.
Therefore dangers could encountered, for example, on starting and stopping controlled from a
distance.
All type of dangers are taken into account, generating between them or generally from the
automatic management system of the machine, or erraneous understanding of the same
control systems.

6.3 Start up

WARNING: At the start of every work shift and before starting production, carry out a
preliminary verification to ascertain a good state of functioning of the safety systems.

Before starting up the machine without material, carry out the following operations:

- fill up the reduction gears with oil and the centralized system with grease;
- check lubrication of the various components;
- check belts tension;
- adjust positioning of apron scraper to a minimum distance of 2 mm from the part of the apron
which protrudes the most;
- check apron tension by means of the adjustment screws;
- operate machine on no-load and check positioning of the chain on the slides;
- check correct positioning of scraper during apron rotation.

After one has verified that the machine is functioning correctly on no-load, one can start up
with material, as indicated hereunder:

- start-up the machine on no-load;

- start to load small size material onto the moving apron;
- after operation with material, check positioning of scraper;
- before starting the machine for production, unload onto the apron some crushed material,
therefore of small size, to obtain a material layer on the whole apron length;
- now the material having the size which will be normally used can be unloaded on the machine
and production may begin. It’s indispensable that, unloading material with normal size onto
the machine, the apron is always covered with a layer of material.
- nominal production is achieved at the apron speed indicated on the motorization data sheet
but can depend upon material characteristics.

6.4 Dangerous and forbidden operations

- Avoid unloading of big lumps directly onto the apron, if this is not covered by a layer of
material

- Avoid running of apron in opposite direction in respect to the foreseen one

CHAPTER 7: REGULATIONS AND SUBSTITUTIONS

7.1 General Warnings

WARNING: Before intervening on the machine it is necessary to switch off and block
the electrical maintenance, position to OFF “O” the isolator of the electric panel
controls with a padlock.
Furthermore, it is important that the personnel in charge are familiar with the
“General Safety Guidelines” reported in chapter 1 of the present manual.

The duties of regulation and substitution of machine parts described in the present chapter
must be carried out by QUALIFIED personnel.
During the regulation and substitution operations to carry out the isolation of the area
surrounding the machine. Do not permit persons unfamiliar with the works to approach the
machine.

Any modification or substitution of the machine parts, not authorised by the

constructor, and the use of non original exchange parts , in addition to annulling the
guarantees, can compromise the correct functioning of the machine and constitute
danger of accident and releive the constructor from penal and civil responsabilities.

7.2 Necessary instrumentation

The operations of regulation and disassembly on the machine can be executed using the
standard tools that are on commerce.
Eventual special supplied equipments, are described and represented in a specific way on
the disassembly and/or regulation for the parts of the machine for which the use has been
requested.

7.3 Metal apron adjustment

Belt conveyor alignment

For a correct alignment, proceed as follows:

1. Drive drum adjustment

Make sure that the supports/tighteners at the end of the idle drum are aligned and that they
work at the same distance so that they are perfectly othogonal to the apron.

2. Belt alignment

For this adjustment, use the aligning wheels at the sides of the apron. Check each aligning
wheel and if one should appear anomalous, replace it.

Before starting the alignment, also make sure that the drive drum is perpendicular to the
apron belt centerline.

WARNING: Never align a drum using the drums installed: an incorrect

perpendicularity of the drums will cause a misalignment in the transmission system
with consequent premature wear.

Check the drums and the aligning wheels at regular intervals; any material stuck to the rollers/
wheels may cause skidding of the apron, which should never be aligned in this situation. Any
material stuck to the apron should be removed to avoid irreparable damage to the apron.

7.4 Regulations to carry out on the system of the oil

The drawing below shows the scraper installation position.

Fig.7-2

The scraper consists of a main support pos. 4 and a blade pos. 3, bolted to its end.
the support 4 is assembled to the support 5.
The scraper distance may be adjusted by means of the bolts (1).
When correctly installed, the end of the blade 3 is at about 2 mm from the outer surface of the
apron.
The position of the scraper should be adjusted regularly by means of TH bolts 1, to
counteract progressive wear resulting from operation.
After every adjustment, perform a complete rotation of the metal apron to make sure that
there is no interference with the scraper.
When the blade 3 is too worn to allow a correct adjustment, it should be replaced.
To replace it, move the scraper away from the apron (by using the bolts 1) and remove the
bolts that hold it to support 4 ; after replacement, lock the new scraper in place following the
same procedure in reverse order.
A correct scraper adjustment is particularly important when processing plastic-wet material
which tends to stick to the surface of the metal apron.

procedure are removed from the machine.
- The fixed protection, if removed, have been correctly re-positioned and fixed.
- Verify the mobile protections, if opened, are properly closed.
- All the safety devices are in good working order.

WARNING : It is absolutely forbidden the tampering and removal of the safety

devices. In the event of tampering and/or removal of the safety devices, the
constructor declines every responsability on the security of the machine.

9.2 Programme of extraordinary maintenance

Preface

The maintenance program can be inserted on the PLC, in the case of the automation of the
more elevated level, and the control areas are pointed out each time at the expiry date of the
approach that the BEDESCHI S.p.A. thinks appropriate, according to the acquired experience
and anyway it can be personal according to the experience of the customer.
To follow we list the parts of the machine with relative times after which it is necessary to
carry out ordinary maintenance .

IMPORTANT:

The extraordinary cleaning and maintenance operations must be carried out in

conditions of maximum safety making use of well trained and authorised staff.

CHAPTER 10: INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE LUBRICATION

OF THE MACHINE

Preface

In this chapter there are illustrated and described the norms to follow and the operations to
carry out for the lubrication of the machines.
The methodically executed lubrication of the machine, constitutes a determining factor in
order to obtain a longer life, the functioning in the best conditions, the maximum production
and the best safety conditions.
To such an aim, a scheduled plan of lubrication with regular intervals has been predisposed.
The guarantee of the machines is valid only if the norms of lubrication indicated in the
present chapter are integrally adhered to.

ATTENTION:
In the event that the machines supplied are not immediately installed, it is necessary
to follow a temporary lubrication, more specifically indicated in paragraph
“LUBRICATION IN THE EVENT OF EXTENDED STANDSTILL” of the present chapter.

10.1 Method of procedure for the lubrication operations

All the operations of lubrication must be executed by skilled staff. All the maintenance
operators must strictly respect the accident preventions rules and they must follow what
pointed out on the chapter no. 1 “Introduction – general instructions”.

Before making any operations of lubrications and/or maintenance, the electrical

alimentation of the machine must be removed, choosing the position: “OFF” “0” for
the general switch of the control board and locking it with a padlock.

The padlock key must be kept by the maintenance operations head worker, that takes the
whole responsibility of its care upon oneself.
To the control board switch you have to apply a sign where is written:
ATTENTION! MACHINE ON MAINTENANCE PHASE.

ATTENTION:
When the maintenance is finished, the machine must be setted in starting phase only
by the maintenance operations head worker, that has made all the preliminary checks.

10 - Instructions for the lubrication of the machine

10.1.1 Lubrication at installation of the machine

Lubrication in soaking oil

All the mechanisms with lubrication in soaking oil are supplied without lubricant. The Client
must equip himself with the lubricant necessary to fill, up to the level, with the quantities and
types recommended for every machine in the relative table.

Lubrication with grease

All the mechanisms with lubrication with grease are supplied already lubricated.
BEDESCHI SpA is responsible for their lubrication using the brands and types of lubricant
advised and recommended for every machine in the relative table.

ATTENTION:
During the operation of the restoration of the lubricant, it is necessary to avoid mixing
different types of oils, both of different and of the same brands. Therefore avoid the
mixing of mineral and synthetic oils. The same recommendation is also valid for the
grease.

10.1.2 Lubrication in the event of extended standstill

Standstill of a machine prior to its start up

If on arrival to the Client of a machine, it is foreseen that this will not be put into operation
within 60 days, it is necessary to quickly (until the cap charge) all the mechanisms to
lubricate in soaking oil, with the exception of the ones “lubricated for life”.
If the machine is put into function within 12 months from the top up, it is sufficient to top up
the oil to the defined level for each mechanism and to grease all the mechanisms lubricated
with grease. If on the contrary the machine is put in action after 12 months from the levelling,
completely substitute the oil after having carried out an internal wash of the mechanisms,
and to grease all the mechanisms lubricated with grease.

Standstill of a machine after a production cycle

If after a cycle of production it is envisaged the standstill of a machine of more than 90 days
it is necessary to promptly level (until the cap charge) all the mechanisms lubricated soaking
in oil, with the exception of the ones “lubricated for life”.
The lubricant to use for each mechanism must be of the same type and brand of the one
already in place. On start up of the machine, it is necessary to change the oil of each
mechanism and to grease all the mechanisms lubricated with grease, even if these have not
reached the number of working hours recommended in the lubrication tables.

10.1.3 Oil replacement and inner washing of the reduction gearboxes

The oil replacement must be made respecting the intervals marked on the lubrication
schedule.
Anyway it is opportune to make the oil replacement at least one time each year, if not
otherwise marked on the schedule.
The reduction gearboxes, and more in general all the mechanisms with oil lubrication, must
be completely emptied and cleaned with care for each change of lubricant.

10.2
E.RNS 10/2500 AB.10A.00 E
Instructions for the lubrication of the machine - 10

The dirty accumulation consists on a dust mixing, metal scales and tarry products; these last
ones derive from the deterioration of the oil; it is indispensable to remove radically the dirty,
because the abrasive small portions would lead rapidly to the teeth wear of the gears, and
the products of the oxidation would work as inhibitors that accelerate the aging of the new oil.
For the oil washing use the special oils previewed from the producers (ex. SHELL - VITRES
OIL 32 or one that corresponds to other brands) turn the mechanism not under stress, for 3-4
minutes. At the end of the operation, discharge completely the lubricant and make a second
washing with a little quantity of lubricant established for the mechanism.

10.1.4 Change of oil in planetary reduction gear

On filling with oil the planetary reduction gear it is necessary to take out a level tap, situated
at the height of the axis of the reduction gear and at the furthest point of the charger.
This operation is necessary in order to create a vent and to have at the same time a visual
control of the distribution of the oil inside the reduction gear.
The quantity of the oil to put in inside the reduction gear is indicated in the lubrication table.
Once the procedure has been accomplished, let the reduction gear complete a few turns,
actioning the pulleys and to verify that the level of oil remains constant.

10.1.5 Filtering of the oil

During the regeneration or changing of the oil, it is necessary to filter it with a filter of 200/
300 micron.

10.1.6 Regular inspection of the oil levels

Periodically control the oil levels in the reduction gearboxes or in the tanks.
If, during the restoration of the oil till the level, it is necessary to add more than 20% of the
previewed quantity for the whole replacement, we suggest to verify the presence of eventual
loss in the mechanism and supply to its elimination.

10.1.7 Reduction gearboxes lubricated for life

The reduction gearboxes, and more in general all the mechanisms pointed out on the
schedule, that summarizes the lubrication, with the wording: “LUBRIFICATED FOR LIFE”, do
not need any periodical lubrication, because of they are lubricated with appropriate lubricant
for life.
It is needed nevertheless, for every case of breakdown or revision, to see to the accurate
cleaning and the regeneration with the type and quantity of lubricant indicated in the
lubrication table.

10.1.8 Disposal of used oils

The used oils and the objects impregnated in oil, of grease and other solvents, used for the
operations of lubrication, must be disposed of across the specific points of collection
respecting the ecological governing laws in force in the Country where the machines are
installed.

ATTENTION: Never disperse in the environment used oils, grease or other polluting
fluids.

5. PUMP COMPONENTS

Pump unit consists of:

‰ a gear pump serving the lubrication circuit;

‰ an electric motor;
‰ a reservoir (pump without reservoir are also available);
‰ a suction filter, filtering degree → 260 micron;
‰ an easily accessible monobloc valve, mounted external the reservoir and consisting of a by-pass
valve which can be easily adjusted externally; a delivery fitting or connection both of G1/8 UNI-ISO
228/1 (1/8 BSP) with housing for double-cone and Ø6mm (Ø0.23 in.)pipe; a connection G1/8 UNI-
ISO 228/1 (1/8 BSP) for the manometer; a non-return valve or a release valve for the functioning of
systems with direct response dosing valves;
‰ a manometer for line pressure;
‰ a minimum level contact: Magnetic type - reversible float with contact normally closed (NC) on
minimum level. Maximum switching power 50W ÷ 50VA; maximum switching voltage 220VAC,
maximum current 3A.On request a minimum level and lubricant reserve supply indicator are
available: fitted with floats and two switches (minimum and zero).

3
It can also be fitted with the following accessories:
♦ Pressure switch
Three versions may be mounted depending on the lubrication system and high/low working pressures
(see table par. 11.5).

♦ Control panel
This control panel (single- or three-phase), called “VIP”, allows the monitoring of the different operating
parameters: level and pressure switch alarms, working and pause cycles (refer to VIP controller User
and Maintenance Manual).

♦ Dual level contact

Equipped with two floats which operate two contacts. The superior contact signals lubricant reserve
supply while the inferior signals level zero. As a rule, the inferior contact is connected in a way which
allows to use the same contact as machine stop-circuit.

6. UNPACKING AND INSTALLING THE PUMP

WARNING: The unit must be used, opened and repaired only by qualified personnel.

6.1 UNPACKING.
Once a suitable location has been found to install the unit, remove the pump from the packaging. Check
the pump has not been damaged during transportation or storage. No particular disposal procedures are
necessary as packaging materials are no dangerous for health or environment. However, packaging
should be disposed of in accordance with regulations that may be in force in your area or state.

6.2 INSTALLING THE PUMP

¾ No pump assembly operations are envisaged.
¾ For wall mounting ensure adequate space (see dimensions diagram, Ch. 12) to avoid unnatural
postures and possible impacts.
¾ Four fixing holes are provided with different characteristics depending on the pump version (For the
correct fixing verify the distance between centres shown in the diagram ch. 12).
¾ First connect the pump hydraulically to the machine and then to the control panel.

6.3 HYDRAULIC FITTING

6.4 PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT
Pressure is the only modifiable parameter. To adjust pressure, rotate the adjustment screw clockwise (to
increase) or anticlockwise (to decrease).

CAUTION: At the end of the all connecting operations, make sure that pipes are safe from impacts
and carefully fixed.

7. PUMP OPERATIONS

7.1 Pump start-up

7.7.1 Prior to pump start-up

y Verify pump is undamaged.
y Check that electrical connections have been carefully carried out (CEI 64/8, IEC 364).
y Verify that pressure switch connection – mounted on reservoir - has been carried out
at 24V.
• Verify that level and pressure switch connections to control panel have been correctly
carried out.
• Refill the reservoir with compatible lubricant, (min/max lubricant indicator on reservoir).
y Check working temperature: MIN temperature +5°C (+41°F)

Unless otherwise specified by the customer, the minimum level indicator is supplied with the contact closed
for minimum level. Should the user require to use a normally open contact, it will be necessary to open the
reservoir and invert the operating direction of the float.

7.7.2 After pump start-up

y Switch ON the pump.
y Verify pump start-up.
y Check rotation direction of electric motor: if rotating in the wrong direction, invert the cable
connections.
y Verify piping is air bubble- free.
y When using a VIP controller: verify the settings on the control panel.
y Verify machine correct operation.

If doubts exist as to machine correct functioning, please contact Eng. Dept. of Dropsa S.p.A. to
request test procedures.

7.2 Precautions to be taken during connecting procedure

⇒ Prior to any operation, verify the voltage of the machine on the product label.
⇒ In order to prevent dangers of electric shocks due to direct or indirect contact with the energized
parts, electrical power supply line must be protected by a suitable magneto-thermal circuit breaker
with an intervention threshold of 0.03 Ampere and 1 second minimum operating time. Circuit
breaker power must be ≤ 10 kA and nominal power In P4 A.

13. HANDLING AND TRASPORTATION

Prior to shipping, pumps are accurately packed and dispatched in cardboard containers. During
transportation and storage always maintain the pump the right way up as indicated on the box.
No particular precautions are required except as noted on the package itself.
On receipt, check that packaging has not been damaged and store the pump in a dry place.
For the low weight of the pump, handling can be effected by only one person: lift the unit maintaining the
right way up indicated on the box.

⇒ Pump components shall withstand a temperature range of –20 °C ÷ + 50 °C (-4°F ÷

+122°F). Anyway, in order to prevent damage, pump must be started-up at a working
temperature of +5 °C (+41°F) at least.

14. PRECAUTIONS

It is necessary to read carefully about the instructions and the risks involved when using lubrication
pumps. The user must know pump operation through this manual.

Damage to power supply cable and unit housing could result in contact with high voltage live
parts and hence be a danger to life:

♦ In order to prevent dangers of electric shock due to direct or indirect contact with live parts it is
necessary that the electrical power supply line is adequately protected by a suitable differential
magneto-thermal circuit breaker with an intervention threshold of 0.03 Ampere and a max. operating
time of 1 second.
The breaking capacity of the circuit breaker must be ≤ 10 kA and the nominal current In = 6 A.

♦ Carefully check the integrity of power supply cable and pump before use. In the event of damages, DO
NOT put the system into service! Replace the damaged power supply cable with a new one.

⇒ The pump MUST NOT be pump submerged into fluids or used in aggressive or
explosive/inflammable environments, if not preventively provided for this purpose by the
manufacturer
⇒ Use gloves and safety glasses as required in the lubrication oil safety chart.
⇒ DO NOT use aggressive lubricants with NBR gaskets and seals; In case of doubts, please contact
the Eng. Dept. of Dropsa SpA, who will provide a chart with the details of recommended oils.
⇒ DO NOT ignore dangers to health and observe all hygiene standards.

WARNING! All electric components and control devices must be grounded. Verify the ground
cable is correctly connected. For safety reasons, ground cable must be approx. 100 mm (3.93 in.)
longer than the phase cables. In the event of accidental detachment of the cable, ground terminal
must be the last to be removed.

15. OPERATING HAZARDS

Verification of compliance with essential safety requirements and Machine Directive dispositions has
been carried out filling in checking lists provided and contained in the technical file.
Dropsa used three kinds of checking list:
• The list of hazards (according to the EN 414 as it refers to EN 292).
• Enforcement of the essential safety requirements (Machine Directive – annex 1, part 1).
• Electric safety requirements (EN 60204-1).

The following is a list of dangers which have not been fully eliminated but which are considered
acceptable:
• During assembly/maintenance oil squirts and contact with oil are possible -> See the requirements
for the use of suitable personal protective clothing.
• Use of incompatible lubricant -> lubricant characteristics are shown on the pump and in the User
and Maintenance Manual (in case of doubt contact the Eng. Dept. of Dropsa SpA).
