Clutches
The multi-disc clutches are spring-force operated, that means, they are released by pilot pressure and closed by
spring force. The pilot pressure to open the desired clutch is supplied via the pilot pressure circuit and the solenoid
valve Y21.4. The two speed ratios are produced by applying pilot pressure to the clutch associated to the desired
speed. The ring gear of the planetary transmission is retained to engage the 1. speed and released for the 2. speed.

1st speed with released parking brake:

"The solenoid valves Y16 and Y21.4 are energised.
"The pressure operates the clutch K2 and the clutch K1 gets pressure-relieved.
"The clutch piston (3) of K2 is pressed onto the diskplate (22) and box wall against the spring force. The spring
(25) supported on the drive shaft of the hydraulic motor moves the shifting tube (20), bushing (17) and taper roller
bearing (37) back to the clutch piston of K2. The small-sized package of the clutch K2 gets detensioned.
The clutch piston (3) of K1 is pressed onto the disc package of K1 by spring force to retain the cou-pling gear (16) as
well as the ring gear (14) of the planetary stage (2).

Power train with the 1st speed engaged

The output shaft of the hydraulic motor drives the sleeve (15). The internal teeth of the sleeve (15) drive the sun gear
(13), whilst the sun gear moves the planetary gear cage (101). The planetary gear cage (101) ro-tates the gearwheel
(12), which connects the drive shaft of the differential gearbox of the rear axle and car-dan shaft flange.

2nd speed with released parking brake

"The solenoid valve Y16 is energised.
"The solenoid valve Y21.4 is de-energised.
"The pressure operates the clutch K1 and clutch K2 is de-pressurised.
"The clutch piston (3) of K1 is forced against the flange (26) by the springs, the disc package gets pressure-
relieved and the coupling gear (16) released.
The springs behind the clutch piston (3) of K2 press the taper roller bearing (37), bushing (17), shift-ing tube (20),
pressure member (18) and pressure ring (21) onto the small disc package.

Power train with the 2nd speed engaged

The hydraulic motor drives the sleeve (15) through its output shaft. The internal teeth of the sleeve (15) drive the sun
gear (13) and the sun gear the planetary gear cage (101). The closed disc package of K2 rotates the coupling gear
(16) and ring gear (14) at the speed of the hydraulic motor. The speed ratio between hydraulic motor and planetary
gear cage (101) is 1:1.

Parking brake activated / engaged

"The solenoid valve Y16 is de-energised
"The previously pressurised clutch is de-pressurised.
"Both the clutches are pressure-relieved and closed by spring force.

Secondary relief valves: 360bar differential

Description:
The hydraulic motor is of axial piston, bent axis, variable consumption design. The angle of the axial piston drum is
high-pressure dependently adjustable by a regulator.

Automatic stroke regulation:

Stroke regulation means the variation of the oil consumption per revolution by changing the angle of the bent axis,
that means, by altering the axial stroke length of the pistons.
With the hydraulic motor in non-operative position and when travelling by low high pressure the cylinder drum (2) is
set to the Vgmin-position, i.e., minimum consumption per revolution. The control disc (3) rests on the Vgmin-
stopscrew (6). The fed hydraulic power in form of flow and pressure is converted into a high number of output
revolutions at low torque by the axial pistons executing a short stroke. The operating pressure for travelling is
applied to the ring side of the regulating spool and the effective area on the control piston of the regulator. The
resulting hydraulic force acting on the regulating spool the motor is kept at its Vgmin-stop. The hydraulic force acting
on the effective area of the adjusting piston counteracts to the spring beneath the con-trol piston. The spring force is
adjustable to determine the so-called stroke response (start of regulation) of the hydraulic motor. The so-called
stroke response means the starting point when the motor strokes from the Vgmin-position in direction to the Vgmax-
one.
With growing travel resistance the high pressure raises until the stroke response level has been reached. The high
pressure shifts the control piston with its regulating edge to get the high pressure arriving at the large area of the
regulating spool. The stroking force moves the cylinder drum (2) to a bigger angle and the stroke of the pistons
grows. The driving torque of the hydraulic motor gets bigger but the output speed is reduced. The excavator travels
with higher traction force at reduced speed. The stroking of the motor varies steplessly to the end of stroking as the
high pressure changes.
The end of stroking will be reached when the control disc of the motor touches the Vgmax-stop (7)
When the travel resistance has been overcome the high pressure drops and the regulating spool is reset due to
spring force. The pressure under the regulating spool escapes to the casing and the cylinder drum (2) swivels in
direction to the Vgmin-position. The output speed increases whilst the driving torque decreases.

Description:
The retarder valve is flange-mounted on the hydraulic motor. This throttle valve protects the hydraulic motor in both
the directions of rotation from indamissibly high speeds.
In the pressure-relieved state the retarder spool (2) is kept in its zero position by spring force. The hydraulic motor is
hydraulically locked by the closed retarder spool.
The operating pressure, for example, flows into the retarder valve through the port A and continues flowing directly
into the hydraulic motor through the check valve and port A1. Additionally the oil arrives at the braking spool through
an orifice and cold-start valve equipped with an 80-bar spring to produce the regulating force. On the opposite side,
the oil is displaced in controlled manner through orifices and check valve to give the braking spool room to move.
The pressure level when travelling in planes will do to open the braking spool that far against the regulating spring
that the oil is able returning in unthrottled manner from the port B1 of the hydraulic motor to the port B passing the
braking spool (2) and check valve (3).
With dropping pressure level the regulating spring shifts the braking spool in such a way that the return flow gab
reduces and the draining oil is able returning.
In this way, the speed of the hydraulic motor and travel velocity of the excavator are governed when running
downhill.
Anti-cavitation valves (3) on both sides protect the hydraulic motor from lack of oil due to leakage, for instance, while
rolling downhill a slope. For that purpose, pre-charging pressure from the tank conduit of the main valve gets into the
undercarriage through the anti-cavitation valves in the main valve and continues flowing to the hydraulic motor
through the anti-cavitation valves (3) inside the retarder valve.

Adjustment of the travel motor, to change from 20 km/h or 25 km/h motor to 30 km/h

Q- Min setting for the vehicle motor

Check and, if necessary, adjust the vehicle motor (pay attention to tyre size)
Requirements:
- Oil temperature about 40°C
- Vehicle has finished warming-up phase
- Programmed maximum speed in the EST (Options).
- Correct tyre diameter input into CU as parameter
Procedure:
- Start the engine
- Select "Road travel" key
- Select top power setting (fast idle 2000 rpm;
- Jack up vehicle so that wheels can turn freely
- Select second gear, deactivate "Creep speed" key
- Floor the gas pedal
- Read off the current maximum speed on the display
- The current maximum driving speed should be maximum 3 kph more than the programmed speed
- Example:
programmed vehicle speed: 20 kph; vehicle speed read off display 23 kph; vehicle is OK
If the displayed driving speed is more than 3 kph higher than the programmed driving speed, vibrations will occur.
Screw in the Vg_min screw on the vehicle motor.
If the programmed driving speed is not reached, unscrew the Vg_min screw. The next step is to road test the vehicle
to see whether the driving speed is reached.
