Turkey-Syria Earthquake Kills 28 Thousand, UN Predicts 2 Times

(Source Jakarta, CNN Indonesia)

-- The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria exceeded 28 thousand people as
of Saturday (11/2).

However, the head of UN disaster management, Martin Griffith, estimates the death toll could be
double that number since he arrived in Turkey on Saturday (11/2), as quoted by AFP.

Griffith's estimate was based on the severe destruction of an area affected by the quake in Turkey and
Syria, which he said was the size of France.

When referring to the latest number of victims killed by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria as of
Saturday (11/2), Griffith's prediction for the death toll from the devastating earthquake could be as high
as 56 thousand.

The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Ghebreyesus arrived in Aleppo carrying
emergency medical equipment. He also visited damaged areas and met two children who had lost their
parents.

"There are no words to express the pain they are going through," he tweeted.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has urged the Security Council to approve the opening of a new
cross-border aid point between Turkey and Syria. It is likely that the Security Council will meet for this
discussion early next week.
