sheets provided separately.

UNDERSTAND
Simple Repairs

➢ Luggage can become

Damaged during travel and part of the valet’s job is to deal with this kind of situation.
When damage is identified, the guest should be advised straight away in order for
them to be aware of it. Suggestion for a repair will also offered. liaise with the guest
to determine if he or she requires you to follow-up on the damaged, for contacting
the airline and seeking compensation.

Repairs for guest clothe:

➢ Be proactive, do not just wait for the guest to ask for repairs to
be done: look for item requiring attention and take appropriate action.
➢ Make a small repair using a valet’s kit to sew on buttons or
stitch a hem.
➢ Arrange for longer repairs as opposed to actually undertaking
them.
➢ Some repairs are done internally by the laundry or seamstress,
or outside where a specialist is required using preferred supplies or
providers.

Basic Darning and Mending

➢ Darning and mending is the simplest form in repairing

that involves anchoring of the thread in the fabric on the edge of the hole
and carrying it across the gap. This could be done through the following
methods.

2|Pa ge
❖ Woven darn – lengthwise threads are run in first starting from the
edge of the hole at one side, taking a few small stitches into the
edge.

❖ Dropped stitch – slip a fine crochet-hook through the little loop at the
lower end of the hole, catch up the first thread ana pull it through the
loop.

❖ Ball stitch – baste part be mended over a piece from a stocking leg,
matching it in color and texture, with the ribs running like those in the
stocking.

❖ Stoting -the part to be mended is basted smoothly over a piece of

paper. The needle is inserted about half an inch from the torn edge.
And run between the threads of the cloths. Across the cut. To half an
inch on the opposite side and drawn through.

❖ Mending tissue-a semi-transparent substance resembling the thin

robber used in dress shields. It melts under a hot iron and acts like a
glue, holding the torn fiber together, the torn part of the garment
should the be laid wrong side up, over an ironing board.

❖ Patch- stitching the cloth, a piece of material basted on the wrong

side of the worn or torn apart and catch stitched the garment.
