4. QUALITY
5. BASIC DESIGN
5.1 GENERAL
The design of the pump and relevant auxiliary equipment shall be the Supplier's
responsibility. They shall be based on the present state-of-the-art and shall
comply with the Purchaser's requests expressed in this specification, the Data
Sheet MOD.MEC.POS.001, the reference codes and standards and with
operating, safety and maintenance requirements.
The pump and its components shall be suitable for the site conditions specified
in the Data Sheet and/or in the Supply Specification.
All ambient factors that may influence the reliability of the component shall be
considered as follows:
minimum and maximum temperatures;
direction and speed of the wind;
elevation above sea level;
presence of solids (sand, dust);
presence of corrosive compounds or pollutants;
seismic events;
direct or indirect ligthing;
mechanical stress and vibrations during normal operation;
explosion or fire hazards.
Design criteria of pumps and relevant auxiliaries shall consider a minimum
period of full load continuous duty of 16.000 to 24.000 hours.
Pumps may be of single or multi-stage design.
Pumps shall be selected with the guarantee point between 80% and 110% of
best efficiency point, applicable to the impeller diameter fitted.
Pumps shall have a preferred operating region of 70% to 120% of best
efficiency flow rate of the pump furnished. .
Pumps shall have a stable head versus flowrate curve which continuously rise
by a least 5% from rated capacity to shut-off. If parallel operation is specified,
the head rise from rated point to shutoff shall be a minimum of 10%, to ensure
continuous stable parallel operation. During performance testing, the test points
shall always show increasing differential head with decreasing flow.
The shutoff head must be in the range 110% to 120% of the one at rated flow-
rate.
When two or more pumps in parallel are provided, the characteristic curves
shall be identical.
Pumps shall be capable of continuous service at any flow rate between the
minimum continuous flow stated in the data/requisition sheet and the end of
curve flow rate, either
solo or in parallel with other pumps of similar rating.
For fire-fighting services the criteria requested by the ANSI NFPA 20 norm shall
apply. Fire-fighting pumps shall supply a flow rate that does not amount to less
than 150% the design flow rate obtained with a head that does not amount to
less than 65% the design head.
The pump head/flowrate diagram shall show an invariable characteristic curve
and its progress shall increase up to a standstill. The reference point at the
pump design discharge pressure shall be the central axis of the discharge elbow
upper flange.
The pump Manufacturer shall notify the Client of the minimum required
submersion level.
5.2 MATERIALS
5.2.1 General
All materials of the pump shall be supplied according to the Data sheet and
subject to Company approval.
The Supplier shall propose materials and the relevant list of applications where
pumps are operating in the same or similar process conditions.
For marine or off- shore installation casings in cast iron shall not be accepted.
For on-shore applications cast iron casings shall be subject to Company
approval for the particular case.
5.2.2 Castings
All castings shall be free from blow-holes, earth or slags inclusions or from any
other concealed defects. Castings shall all be perfectly trimmed and sand-
blasted or pickled so as to ensure surface cleaning as per MSS SP-55.
Painting and coating of equipment shall comply with the Company Standard N°
20000.VAR.PAI.FUN “Protective Coating, Galvanizing and Metallizing for internal
and external Surfaces of Offshore and Onshore Structures and related
Components” and Projects documents.
Supplier’s standard painting system may be proposed as an alternative, but
shall be subject to review and specific Company approval.
5.5 PIPING
The equipment shall be complete with discharge column, unless differently
stated in Data Sheets. The vertical discharge and support piping of the
submersible motor pump shall be supported by the support plate whose
dimensioning shall take into account all involved loads as well as the column
load and shall end above the plate with a 90° curve. It has to be flanged in
order to obtain a horizontal orientation. The vertical discharge piping shall be
divided into column pipes joined together by means of flange and bolts. The
length of each pipe is such to permit their withdrawal from above, considering
the available spaces. Therefore, the length of column pipes shall be defined
during detail design.
5.7 IMPELLERS
Impellers shall be designed to withstand max continuous speed and shall be
dynamically balanced.
Impellers shall be cast in one (1) piece and shall be secured to the pump shaft
by keys.
5.8 BEARINGS
Thrust and radial bearings shall be suitable for lubrication and cooling by the
pumped fluid under both stable and transient conditions. Manufacturer shall
define in the proposal any precautions considered necessary to restrict the
ingress of dirt to the bearings and to prevent vapour locking.
The pump shaft shall be supported by a minimum of one bearing in the
discharge casing or, by two bearings, the second being located in the suction
casing or in first stage.
All the bearings shall be lubricated by the pumped medium.
6. ACCESSORIES
6.1 DRIVERS
Type and characteristics of the pump drivers shall be specified in the Data
Sheets.
Electric motors shall comply with Company Standard 20167.EQP.ELE.FUN
“Asynchronous Motors” and with the following requirements:
Motor shall have power rating as per Table below. The motor shall also
be able to meet the power requirement to cover end of curve
operation, but the margin is not mandatory to avoid un-necessary
motor over sizing. For all column mounted pumps the motor power
rating shall be minimum 135% of Best Efficiency Point (BEP), the
capacity corresponding to worst case column filling situation at start
up.
Motors shall be designed for full voltage starting. The torque provided
by a motor at 80% of rated voltage shall be capable of accelerating
the pump to full speed with an open discharge valve (no valve
restriction).
Unless otherwise specified Submersible motors shall be provided as
squirrel cage induction motor type of open, wet stator design. The
motor shall be potable water filled, lubricated and internally cooled by
the product pumped.
The rotor which runs in water shall be protected against corrosion.
The combined pump/motor rotor that can be subject to reverse
rotation for short
periods of time, shall be suitable for reverse rotation at up to 120 % of
rated speed.
All components, including the electric cables, motor windings, cable
entry seals,
etc., which are in contact with the product pumped, as specified on
the data/requisition sheet, shall be chemically and thermally resistant
to this product for the lifetime of the motor. Liquid composition and
possible impurity quantities, such as H20, NH3, CO2 and H2S, shall be
stated to assess the suitability of cables, feed throughs, motor
windings, materials of construction, and insulation materials.
Windings of the electric motors, synthetically insulated, shall be
provided with at least three (3) thermistor type temperature detectors
(positive temperature coefficient). The initiating temperature of these
thermistors shall be in accordance with the highest permissible hot-
spot temperature for the class of insulation used for the windings.
Manufacturer shall comment on other methods of temperature
detection if thermistors are ineffective for submerged motors that are
6.3 COUPLINGS
Couplings shall be of direct type, unless otherwise required in the Data Sheet.
7.1 GENERAL
Inspections & tests shall be in accordance with Company Standard
07423.PKG.GEN.SDS “Inspection and Test of Package Supplies”.
Acceptance of shop tests does not constitute a waiver of requirements to meet
field performance under specified operations conditions, nor does inspection
relieve the Supplier of his responsibilities.
Pumps shall run continuously for a period of at least two hours at rated flow at
the actual temperature of the liquid to be pumped, or in a representative
condition approved by the Company, unless otherwise specified on the
data/requisition sheet.
A starting current test shall be performed on each motor.
9. PERFORMANCE GUARANTEES
The manufacturer shall guarantee that, for the guarantee point and at the rated
speed (or in some cases frequency and voltage), the measured pump curve
touches, or passes through a tolerance surrounding the guarantee point, as per
Table in point 9.2.
A guarantee point shall be defined by a guaranteed flow, QG, and a guaranteed
head, HG.
In addition, one or more of the following quantities may be guaranteed at the
specified
conditions and at the rated speed:
a)
1) the minimum pump efficiency, ηG, or the maximum pump input
power, PG, or
2) in the case of a combined pump and motor unit (i.e. submersible
pumps), the minimum combined efficiency, ηgrG, or the maximum
pump motor unit input power, PgrG.
b)
the maximum NPSHR at the guarantee flow.
The maximum power input may be guaranteed for the guarantee point or for a
range of points along the pump curve. This, however, can require larger
tolerances to be agreed upon between the Company and Manufacturer.
