Kipkee’s trip to the
lighthouse
Kipkee the giraffe, tall and bright,
Ventured to the lighthouse one stormy night.
Through forests deep and meadows wide,
She reached the shore with the ocean's tide.

Waves crashed hard, the night was dark,

Ships in peril, no guiding spark.
Kipkee climbed the lighthouse tall,
Determined to help and save them all.

With neck stretched high, she flashed

the light,
A beacon through the stormy night.
Ships steered clear of rocks so near,
Thanks to Kipkee, the way was clear.

In morning's glow, the storm now past,

Kipkee’s bravery shone, steadfast.
The lighthouse keeper, tall and grand,
Guiding ships with a gentle hand.

Due to their height and the focused nature of the light, lighthouse
beams can be visible from great distances, aiding ships in navigation
even in the darkest of nights.

The height of a lighthouse takes into account the curvature of the

earth, so the higher is the light above MHW (mean high water), the
further away it can be seen at sea.
Tallest Lighthouse in the world is Jeddah Light, Saudi Arabia (436 ft.)

Lighthouses are painted differently to help mariners identify them

during the day.
For example, a lighthouse may be painted all white if its surroundings / background
is dark. The red and white stripes help the mariner identify the lighthouse if it’s up
against a white background, such as cliffs or rocks.

Lighthouses used to be operated by a lighthouse keeper who lived in

the building. Many modern lighthouses have automatic lights that
are operated by remote control.

The use of lighthouses has significantly decreased with the advent

of GPS navigation.
That’s why lighthouses are often used these days as popular tourist attractions.

and LET’S YARN IN SOME MAGIC step-by-step guide at
www.kipkee.in/kipkee
-in-the-garden
1. Choose the line section of the
drawing you plan to start with -
based on contours of the
drawing. Then add a generous
amount of glue - ONLY to that
line section.

Start off in a small area

until you get a good
handle on your speed in
relation to how fast your
glue dries.

2.
Add pieces of yarn to the canvas.
Start from outside in or
inside out - as you feel
comfortable.
Carefully line up the yarn with the
line drawn on the canvas. Gently
press the yarn into the glue as
you work your way across.

3.
Continue adding yarn below the
first line of yarn, carefully
shaping the yarn to match the
contours of the previous piece.
Make sure the pieces of
yarn are close together
without leaving any
white space of the
canvas showing.

4.
Use your finger or guide stick or
an old pen casing to push the
yarn through the glue and into
the right position that you’d like!

5.
When you're working with curved
lines you'll find areas where the
yarn doesn't go all the way
across the canvas.

For these sections, start the yarn

at the wider edge, take it till the
end where there is no space left
and cut off the yarn.

15
6.
In case of small patterns, where it
is difficult to use long yarn loops,
you might want to cut the yarns
into small manageable pieces.

Small cut pieces are also

great ways to fill the
blank areas in your work
to bring neatness and
hide white spaces.

7.
For small sections, there are 2
methods of filling with yarn:
Method 1 - Continue with same
thread by turning at corners

Method 2 - Cut small pieces of yarn

and paste them one by one below
each other

8.
At the last, using fabric scissors,
cut off the loose ends of yarn
around the edges of the canvas.
