This is the girl. She is playing tennis.

This is the girl who/that is playing tennis.


Relative clauses

This is the bookshop. I told you about this bookshop.

This is the bookshop (which/that) I told you about.


Relative clauses

This is the boy. His sister is a model.

This is the boy whose sister is a model.

I know a woman. She is a successful chef.

I know a woman who/that is a successful chef.

the people, things or animals we are talking about.
Refers to people. Whom is the object pronoun in formal
Who (Whom) English.
That Refers to people, things or animals.

Which Refers to (inanimate) things or animals.

It is used to say something belongs to someone; it usually


Whose refers to people, but it may refer to things or animals; it
also describes relationships.

are often omitted:

That is the girl. I met her in Australia.

That’s the girl (whom/who/that) I met in Australia.
