Globalization

Cultural globalization = refers to the transmission of ideas, meanings and values


around the world in such a way to extend and intensify social relations. This
process is marked by the common consumption of culture that has been
diffused by internet, popular cultural and international travel.

Example; coffee or avocado, globally consumed commodity.

*Why is culture important in globalization?

>Cultural identity provides the global significance of local knowledge and the
sense of self, community and nation.

> In terms of science and Technology & economic development. Globalization


reflects somewhat the theory of convergence, but in deeper sense it promotes
cultural identity.

Aspects of Globalization

>Globalization of culture, contributes to the exchange of cultural values of


different countries.

>The convergence of traditions.

> For culture globalizations, characterized by convergence of business and


consumer control between the different countries of the world, and the growth
of international communications.

>Is cultural globalization a good thing?

* Globalization has increased awareness among global consumers of different


opportunity for investment, economic trends, and new products.

> Socially, globalization provides populations around the world with better
interconnectedness.
>Culturally, it promotes the increase in the exchange of values and ideas.

How cultural globalization has influence food;

>forces manifested by globalization such as market and trade liberation, capital


flow and urbanization. Have changed the nature of our food systems by
increasing the diversity and affordability of food, but also by changing its quality
and values.

>Cultural Globalization contributing factors.

* New technology and form of communication around the world help to


integrate different cultures into each other.

* Transportation Technologies and services along with mass migration and


individual travel contribute to this form of globalization allowing for cross-
cultural exchanges.

 Dissemination of knowledge

•Political Globalization- the development and growing influence of international


organization such as UN or WHO means governmental action takes place at an
international level.

 Examples of Political Globalizations


 European Union -the European Union is a trade and treaty bloc
comprising of 27 nation-states or the continent of Europe.
 NATO- the North American Treaty Organization is another multi-national
political treaty established after World War II.s
