FuelEU Maritime Regulation

Objectives:
𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒃𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑬𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔
2025 -
𝑭𝒖𝒆𝒍 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒔
The GHG intensity of the
energy used [gCO2e/MJ]
𝑻𝒐𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑬𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔
2030 -
𝑭𝒖𝒆𝒍 𝑬𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒚

Application:
• Similar application to the EU ETS Directive.
• Well-to-Wake (WtW) CO2, CH4, N2O emissions.
• Reference GHG intensity from 2020 fleet average (MRV Data).
• Entry into force from 1st January 2025 (Monitoring 2025, Reporting 2026).

Compliance Balance
Positive balance means “compliance surplus”
“Compliance balance” means the measure of a ship’s over- or under-compliance
with regards to the limits to the yearly average GHG intensity of the energy used.

Negative balance means “compliance deficit”
