DESCRIPTION
The Tornado ST is a machine with a spray tower frame for non-sticky dust. The gas enters into it
tangentially, which allows the dust to be immediately sent to the hopper.

Torch-Air Company supplies both packages and individual parts of the Tornado ST package.

The Tornado ST is designed for cleaning wet gases.

The Tornado ST features a vertical column inside it with gas irrigation nozzles lined in several layers.
The irrigation system consists of several stages with nozzles installed along the inside of the Tornado's
frame. The nozzles are lined in a way that water scrubs the gas from all kinds of directions. A drift
eliminator is also installed on top of the machine.

BASIC GAS FLOW DIAGRAM IN AND OUT OF THE TORNADO ST

This diagram shows how the Tornado ST operates. The
package itself consists of one or multiple analogous
cleaning zones.

How it works

The Tornado ST has a number of irrigation layers

(usually one, two, or three).

Contaminated gas enters into the entry chamber

tangentially. Meanwhile, the gas, while rotating, sets
the accumulated liquid in a rotating motion inside the
entry chamber, some of which advances further along
with the gas. Then, headed toward a flow of fresh,
scrubbing liquid, an intense gas-liquid irrigation mass
transfer process takes place. The irrigation system is
organized based on the technical information of the
cleaned gas and features the irrigation area required
to create an effective gas-liquid mass transfer process.

The liquid phase (contaminated solution) flows into

the circulation container (for subsequent use or removal) while the cleaned gas flows into the droplet
separator along with the removable liquid droplets. After that, the clean gas (or air) exits the Tornado
ST to the outside.

WHAT IT CAPTURES
The Tornado ST captures the following substances
3
Various dust components sized 0.1 µm and up.

For capturing finer components, we recommend various additives, for instance caustic soda etc. Such
additives are selected on a case-by-case basis for the particular air and gas mixture present in the
customer's facility.

Substances of acidic nature: Substances of basic nature: Other substances.

- inorganic acids: HCl - alkalines: NaOH (sodium - aldehydes, mercaptans,
(hydrochloric), HF (fluoric), hydroxide or “caustic soda”), ozone, smells, foul-smelling
H2SO4 (sulfuric), HNO3 (nitric), KOH (potassium hydroxide or substances.
H3PO4 (phosphoric), among “caustic soda”), etc.; - H2S (hydrogen sulfide), CH2O
others; - NH3 (ammonium); (formaldehyde);
- oxides of acidic nature: SO2 - amines: (tri-) (di-) (mono-)
(sulfur dioxide), NO2 (nitrogen methylamines, (tri-) (di-)
dioxide), SO3, CrO3, etc.; (mono-) ethylamines, etc.;
- organic acids: HCOOH (formic), - soluble salts: BaCl2 (barium
CH3COOH (acetic), etc.; chloride), NaCl (sodium
- hydrogen cyanide HCN; chloride), NaNO2 (sodium
- Cl2 (chlorine), Br2 (bromine); nitrite);

KaNO3 (potassium nitrate) and

other salts soluble in water

- spirits: methyl, ethyl,

isopropyl, etc.;
- ethers (ethyl acetate, methyl
acetate, dimethyl, diethyl, etc.);
- phenols;

APPLICABLE AREAS
Any technological processes producing dust

ENGINEERING AND METAL PROCESSING

Galvanic production sites, factories, and floors; processes: degreasing, slag loosening, etching,
phosphitylation, oxidization, anodization, bichromate processing, chrome anhydride processing, nickel
plating, chrome plating, copper plating, tin plating, tin-bismuth alloy plating, zinc plating, zinc
anodization, cadmium plating, cadmium-tin alloy coating, brass plating, lead alloy plating, gilding, silver
plating, palladizing, electropolishing, chemical polishing, and removal of copper, nickel, chrome, and
tin; electrochemical production sites.
4
FOOD INDUSTRY

Storages with freezing installations using ammonium as the coolant.

Fish complexes; fish processing; meat processing industry; pork processing farms, poultry factories, and
cattle breeding sites; meat packing plants.

PHARMACEUTICALS INDUSTRY

Extraction of amines and reduced sulfur compounds, furfurole, and methanol.

CHEMICAL INDUSTRY

Production of inorganic bounds: acids, alkalines, ammonium, sodas, salts, and reagents; production of
rare as well as noble metals and concentrates; chemical and chemical-metallurgical enterprises.

LABORATORIES

Factory and testing laboratories using reagents.

Etc.

Recommended for the processes:

• Cleaning the dust flows;

• Cleaning gas of galvanic processes;
• Gas cleaning in laboratories
• Cleaning gas of various vapor and compound chemical bounds;
• Moisturizing air at production sites;
• Cleaning gases of hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, resistance to sulfuric acid, sulfur and nitrogen
oxides, ammonium, etc.;
• Mass transfer.

Advantages:

• The gas cleaning process creates practically no wastes;

• Doesn't get clogged up with various substances;
• Highly resilient to transfer loads;
• Resilient to temperature fluctuations;
• Qualitative, efficient gas, and smoke cleaning;
• Straightforward to use;

Practically no wear caused by the water.

5
DESIGN MATERIAL
The scrubber design material is selected depending on the chemical composition of the gas and its
temperature. We manufacture Tornado ST using both chemically resistant steel and plastic brands.

Steels: Steel 3, AISI, 12X18, etc.

Plastics: polyethylene, polypropene, PVDF, etc.

AUTOMATION
All of our equipment may be packaged with three types of control elements

1. Manual control: the most affordable, inexpensive method;

2. Semi-automatic control: control using a temporary relay, solution preparation, and manual
solution drainage;

3. Automatic: time control or control by regular cycle which is determined with the client.
Preparation and dosage of the reagent solution are automatic.

In the standard package, the scrubber has minimal automation: level transmitter, pump activation, and
pH control.

For more expanded automation, we propose:

1. Automatic refilling and reagent drainage

2. Automatic reagent preparation
3. Automation irrigation activation/deactivation
4. Connecting the automatic contact to the controller and pH meter.

PRIMARY MACHINE FEATURES

Aerodynamic resistance in Pa: 150 Pascals

Power consumption without additional equipment kW/hour: 1 kW and up depending on the

performance of the scrubber

Operating temperature range: 5-80 °C, if polypropene is used

Operating temperature range: 5-300 °C, if steel is used

Dust concentration at the scrubber inlet: up to 50 mg per cubic meter of gas

Gas concentration at the scrubber inlet: up to 500 mg per cubic meter of gas

6
Cleaning efficiency for dust at least 0.1 µm in size: up to 99.99%, depending on the irrigation solution
density. As the density rises, the capturing efficiency rises as well.

Cleaning efficiency for gas: 70 to 99.99%, depending on the gas and the irrigation solution used as well
as the gas flow temperature.
