1 Introduction

This document describes how the Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB (SIT) Safety
Program is built up and how to act to minimize the risks of personal injury or death. It is
of the utmost importance that all personnel must be familiar with the safety regulations.
Maximum safety of personnel is of primary importance followed closely by protection of
equipment from damage.

2 Safety procedures

The SIT equipment is designed to provide safe, reliable operation. In order to ensure this
high safety, the machine is constructed to be safe. In addition, the machine is equipped
with the safety devices described below. It is very important that operators and technicians
are conscious of these safety aspects.

2.1 Warning signals

The purpose of the warning signals is to warn of fire. Always follow the instructions given
in the Operation and Maintenance documentation.

2.2 Alarm & Trip

The control system continuously monitors the gas turbine and will alarm for abnormal
operation. When there is a risk of bodily injury/equipment damage the gas turbine will
trip. However, there is always a need of operator supervision of the control system.

2.3 Contact protections

In order to eliminate the risk of getting in contact with dangerous components such as
rotating parts, these parts have been equipped with covers, isolation or rails. It is entailed
with mortal danger to remove these contact protections.

2.4 Warning signs

The gas turbine has several warning signs mounted in the high-risk areas, which are not
equipped with protective devices. It is important to check regularly that the warning signs
are fully visible for the operators and the technicians.

2.5 Warnings & Cautions

Warnings are to be found in the Operation and Maintenance instructions and must be
followed in any situation or condition. Negligence of obeying these warnings and cautions
means mortal danger or risk of equipment damage.

3 Warning & Caution symbols

Common for all documents are the different levels of safety information. These are:
• Warning (symbol shown below)
• Caution

The definition of the different levels and the way they are presented in the documentation
are given below.

Warning! Indicates the presence of danger. Ignoring the sign may lead to bodily injury
or mortal danger and/or damage of the equipment.

Caution! Informs you of situations or conditions which, if not adhered to, may
damage machinery or cause additional wear to the equipment.
