and Enchantments of the Seelie Elves

By The Silver Elves
(Available on Amazon)
The Book of Elven Magick: The Philosophy and Enchantments of the
Seelie Elves, Volume 1, explores the Elven viewpoint concerning
magick and the world, and traditional spiritual and religious myths. It
covers the tools of magick and gives magical ceremonies that can be
adapted for use by modern elves, magicians, and faerie folk. It is a
unique and original take on magic and the world of Faerie.

About The Silver Elves:

The Silver Elves are a family of elves who have been living and sharing the
Elven Way since 1975. The Silver Elves, Zardoa and Silver Flame, have
30 books on Magic and Enchantment and the Elven Way and have had
various articles published in Circle Network News Magazine and have
given out over 5,000 elven names to interested individuals in the
Arvyndase language, with each elf name having a unique meaning
specifically for that person. If you wish to know more about the Silver Elves,
you can read pages 100 to 107 in "Circles, Groves and Sanctuaries",
compiled by Dan and Pauline Campanelli (Llewellyn Publications, 1992),
which contains an article by them and photos of their home/sanctuary as it
existed at the time. You can also find an article about them in volume 4
number3, issue # 15 of Renaissance Magazine. The Silver Elves are also
mentioned numerous times in "Not In Kansas Anymore" by Christine
Wicker (Harper San Francisco, 2005), and "A Field Guide to Otherkin" by
Lupa (Megalithica Books, 2007).

The Elven Way is the spiritual Path of the Elves. It is not a religion. The
Elven Way promotes the principles of Fairness, that is to say both Justice,
Elegance and Equal Opportunity and Courtesy that is respectful in its
interactions and attitude toward all beings, great or small.

Myths about Elfin Magic:

Myth 1: Magic Requires Belief
Many people think that magic requires belief in order to work.
This is not accurate however; magic does not require belief, it
only requires action, which is not to underestimate the power of
belief, for belief can be quite powerful. However, magic does not
depend upon it for its success. Belief is only important to magic
in so far as it convinces the individual that it will indeed work. If,
for instance, we tell a primitive person that if they flip the switch
on the wall the light will come on, it doesn’t matter if they
believe us or not. If they flip the switch, it will come on. However,
if they don’t believe that it will come on, they may not bother to
flip the switch, thinking instead that we are merely joking or
tricking them. So, too, magic only requires action. You need only
do the magic and it will work. You do not need to believe, you
need only be scientifically minded enough to test this theory and
see if indeed, it is accurate in reality.
Myth 2: Technical Exactness is Necessary
Magic doesn’t function exactly like switching on a light, as some
people think. While magic does require action and not belief,
magic is not, as some suppose, an exact science. Some people
think that in order to do magic you must follow a formula exactly,
just as you must be exact when creating a chemical composition.
But magic is not so exacting. While it has its scientific aspects, it
is also an art and the heart of magic requires intention, will,
motivation, and spirit. Magic, like a painting, like a musical
composition, depends more on individual style than technical
perfection. It is more important that you put your whole heart
and soul into your magic, than that you do everything exactly
this or that way. Like making love, there is no perfect formula or
technique that can replace sensitive and loving interaction. And
believe us when we tell you, Elfin Magic is making love. In
magic … spirit, emotional power, and sincerity out weigh
technical exactness every time/spell. Originality and creativity in
magic, like in movies or music, is more desirable than a slick but
lifeless production. On the other hand, if you can combine all
these elements, enthusiasm and spirit, originality and creativity,
with technical proficiency and smooth performance, you have the
best of all possible combinations and the most effective of magics.

Myth 3: Magic Drains Your Life Force?

This particular misconception is especially prevalent in fantasy
stories. The magician must always pay the price for having
worked his magic both in the short and long run by the sapping
and draining of his life energy. This is a wonderfully Christian
(and we’ve heard Moslem) conception but has no real validity in
elfin magic. Magic revitalizes. It renews and energizes. If your
magic is draining you, if you are sapped of your strength after
your ceremonies, then you are going about it incorrectly. It is
true that magic is in some ways like working out; one may feel
exhausted at first, but soon their energy is replenished and they
have grown stronger. But most of all, magic is like making love.
One should feel exhilarated by one’s magic. Magic is another
aspect of sexual interaction. Doing your magic should be like
flirting with a person you are deeply attracted to; it should turn
you on, get you excited, filling you with creative juice and
potency. If you are tired at all after your magic, it should be with
the fulfilled and relaxed feeling that comes after a tremendous
orgasm: a healing, cleansing feeling that renews you to your
very soul.
