I-121 - Acoustic Astragal - One Active - STC39-46 Steel STC36-46 Non-Fire Wood
1 Introduction
A tiny leak in the seals will degrade the assembly’s performance significantly. It is therefore
VERY IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS!
4 Astragal Installation
1. Cut the bronze seal to be flush with the top of the inactive door and 1/32” above the
threshold. Clean the inactive door meeting edge and install the bronze seal using double-
sided tape, 3/8" from the push side (Figure 1). Cut the bronze seal around latching
hardware (Figure 2). De-burr sharp edges with sandpaper or a file.

2. Insert acoustic rubber into bronze seal and fasten the astragal unit to the push side of the
door. Align the bottom of the steel bracket with the bottom of the door, and the acoustic
rubber must seal against the threshold (Figure 2).
3. Trim the top of the astragal seals flush with the top and push side of the door and to
lightly contact the header soffit (Figure 3).
7/16”
4. Cut the astragal bulb seal to length so it seals against the threshold and overlaps the
header stop (Figure 5).

6. Check that the bulb seal contacts the active door with enough pressure to hold a business
card in place and adjust as needed. Install the remaining screws once a good seal is
achieved.
7. Check that the bronze seal contacts the active door with enough pressure to hold a
business card and adjust as needed.
5 Trouble Shooting
