Units Overview
Keys to Success
There is a lot of flexibility in how you can use this course.
The 15-30 minute LSs are made to fit into young student's attention span and your
schedule.
The following are some very important recommendations that will assure the
successful use of The BRC:
Do the units in order! Do not skip units. Each unit covers important phonic
structures, consonant blends or consonant digraphs. The words related to these
structures that appeared in previous units will reappear in later units.
Do the learning sessions in order! LSs are designed to gradually lead young
reader from getting acquainted with new words in the first learning session
(LS1) to using and recognizing these words in sentences and stories in the
subsequent learning sessions.
Continuity is important. You may work on one LS for several days or do two
LSs in one day. The only important thing is to work continuously and regularly,
be it every day or a couple of times a week.
Be flexible. It is recommended that a student works on one LS 15-30
minutes a day. There is a lot of flexibility in how you can use that time. You can
do only the interactive program during one session, and then do the worksheets
the next day. Or you can do a little bit of both for 2-3 days until the LS is
finished.
Do not skip worksheets! One LS consists of one interactive program and
several worksheets. It is very important that interactive programs are followed
by worksheets. It will help your young reader practice writing and will give
him/her opportunity to read again the same words he/she learned and heard in
the interactive program. This is a very valuable reinforcement, so please do not
skip it.
Repeat if necessary. If you feel that the child is still having problems with
some of the words covered in one of the previous units, it is OK to go back and
review that entire unit or parts of it, before continuing with the current unit.
Give awards! Encourage the child by awarding him/her with a colorful
certificate. The certificates are available on My Dositey Home page when
parent/instructor logs in.
