Many believe that using performance enhancing drugs should be banned in

sport. What is your opinion?

Using performance enhancing medicines is still a controversal topic all over the
world. While some people argue those drugs are legal and their only purpose is
boosting athletic performance, other one believe that they should be prohibited in
sport. Because this kind of medicines don’t ensure fair competions or participants’
health, but it also lead to long-term effects that seriously impact on athletes who
are dependent on drugs.

The first reason why performance enhancing substances shouldn’t be allowed is

that the competion will be unfair with the exsistence of drug usage. Few athletes
drean big, or some regularly under the pressure of winning, such as winning
medals for their countries. Therefore, they use performance enhancing medicines,
also known as doping, to achieve the first prize. According to some research, these
drugs include specific materials to boost individuals strength, add muscle and
increase hormone. So, doping participants have more advantages and likely to win
than people who don’t. This is considered as immoral behavior and should be
eliminated from modern sport.

Secondly, the use of using performance enhancing drugs may have negative
impact on athletes’s physical and mental health. Depeding on the kind of subtance,
the dosage an duration of use, some drugs have been proven to have severe side
effects and irreversible damage to an athlete’s health. Moreover, according to some
research, performance enhancing substances may cause long-term effect such as
heart attack, loss of vision, severe headaches and human growth hormone, man’s
increasing estrogen and vice versa. Scientific research also shows that there is a
considerable correlation between the use of performance enhancing drugs and
mental health issues. Most commonly, it was found that the use of doping
substances can trigger anxiety or obsessive disorders.

Athletes may be dependent on performance enhancing drugs in the long-term. Due

to short-term benefits doping benefits to participants, they can easily achive the
high prize. For a long time afterward, doping will be considered as a method to
win other competitors. In every match, they have to take those drugs to ensure the
best physical condition to get the best result, which leads to the dependent on
performance enhancing substances. And they can’t attend any matches without
using doping.

In conclusion, doping just brings short-term benefits to participants, but it causes
long-term and serious consequences to them. Using performance enhancing drugs
don’t only affect physical and mental well-being, but they also make althletes
depend on drug to achieve the prize. And It leads to unfair competitions between
participants as well. Therefore, government should enact stric law to prevent
doping from happening to ensure “fair play” in sport.
