Pedestal Types/Information
24 Port Switch
preconfigured. The Switch is
equipped with an own
Configuration Tool and an
integrated Power Supply
(230 V AC).
The radar antenna radiates the fan-shape radio wave (fan beam) to the target just as a
search light throws the light beam to the target, and the reflected microwave from the
target returns to the antenna.
The radar does not use a continuous wave but radiates the wave for a short period to
measure the time from the wave is radiated till the reflected wave returns to the antenna.
In addition, with rotation of the antenna at a constant speed, the fan-shape radio wave
that is radiated from the antenna scans 360̊ - with the antenna at its center – to detect the
object.
The X-Band pedestal can be equipped with a 6 ft. or 8 ft. antenna array.
The S-Band pedestal can be equipped with a 12 ft. antenna array.
The X-Band and S-Band pedestal are divided into the UP and DOWN Version.
The UP Version contains the pedestal motor with connection interfaces and the
Transceiver device. The signal transmission is done via LAN cable.
The DOWN Version contains only the pedestal motor with connection interfaces. In this
case, the signal transmission between pedestal and MTR is done for X-Band via wave
guide and for S-Band via coax cable, see Radar Transmission Line Installation
4235DOC000502.
The MTR type or version depends from the pedestal type and version.

Prior to unpacking the radar units, shipping cartons should be checked for external
damage, such as dents, holes, smashed corners, and water marks. If there is any
damage, the shipping agent must be contacted before proceeding with the unpacking and
installation. Depending on the type of installation, the system may be shipped in one or
more containers.
2. Antenna Array
The array mounting material is attached in the carton for the Antenna array.
This chapter contains the procedures for the physical installation of all Radar Equipment.
A line of sight from the radar antenna to the bow of the ship should hit the surface of
the sea in not more than 500 m or twice the ship length, depending which value is
smaller, for all loads and trim conditions.
The radar antenna should be located in an elevated position to permit maximum target
visibility.
Blind sectors should be kept to a minimum, and should not occur in an arc of the
horizon from right ahead to 22.5̊ abaft the beam to either side.
1. Avoid lying cables in areas that are exposed to extremes of heat such as steam
lines.
3. All core cross specifications are minimum Raytheon requests (see project wiring
drawings).
5. When the existing cable runs are used to hang and secure the cables, ensure that
there is no possibility of radiated interference.
1. The system power source should be capable of operating the originally installed
equipment, and considering the possibility of adding options or future expansion.
2. The power source should be stable and noise-free. If possible, the power should
be derived from a dedicated line.
5.3 General Installation-Hints for X- and S-Band UP/DOWN Pedestal and MTR
Consider compass safe distances when planning the mounting structure to ensure that
the equipment being installed is provided with the minimum safe distance.

IEC61162-450:
The Radar picture is sent to the VDR as a PNG or JPG file together with meta data of the
screenshot source (which MTR is selected, is there any user activity, etc.) This is the
preferred way to connect a VDR to a SYNAPSIS system >=E01.00.
The Radar pictures are generated by the VDR screenshot tool PROG302 which is
shipped together with SYNAPSIS BIP (BI01-001.01).
The installer installs a system service and writes all configuration parameters to the file
C:\Windows\SYNAPSIS_VDRImageService.ini.
After manually change, the system service has to be restarted by using the “Services”
page of the Windows “Administrative Tools”, available on the Windows control panel.
After the installer has finished, the VDR image service is ready to use and captures
screenshots of the local workstation.
Create a generic device for the workstation. Exclude this device from system
monitoring.
Add the NMEA sentences PANZSYS and PANZWAR to the NMEA output of this
device.
Add an integration for this device to an IP address and UDP port on the local
machine.
When the VDR image service received PANZSYS sentences, it adapts the source SFI
and source class in the following way:
If the foreground application is Radar, the source class is set to Xband.x with
x=MTR transceiver number if the Radar is connected to an X-Band MTR
transceiver, or Sband.x with x= MTR transceiver number if the Radar is connected
to an S-Band MTR transceiver.
If the foreground application is ECDIS, the source class is set to ECDIS.x with
x=workstation number.
If the foreground application is Conning, the source class is set to Conning.x with
x=workstation number.
When the PANZWAR sentence signals user activity on the local workstation, the “Active”
flag of the screenshot is set to “yes” (or standby if there are stand-by Radars). Otherwise,
the VDR image service sets the flag to “unknown”.
The VDR image service also adapts the time slots of the screenshots that are based on
the selected foreground application to avoid a contemporaneous burst of images from all
consoles. If no PANZSYS communication is available, the configuration parameter
Timeslot can be set to a value 0 – 14 to balance the creation of screenshots. Refer to IEC
61996-1 Ed. 2 for guidance in this case.

8 Maintenance
8.1 General
Periodic preventive maintenance contributes significantly to the service life of the radar
systems. Under normal operating conditions, cleaning and inspection are required and are
considered separately.
WARNING
HIGH VOLTAGE
Before handling any inside part of the radar system, make
sure that the system is switched OFF. Wait for at least
30 sec. for a complete discharge.
When operating, the radar system contains voltages hazardous to life. Hazardous AC
input voltage is present even when the equipment is deenergized, unless the circuit
breaker that is associated with the unit has been turned off.
Maintenance personnel are cautioned to exercise extreme care and use common sense
when servicing the equipment. The following safety precautions must always be observed:
1. Whenever possible, deenergize equipment and turn off associated circuit breakers
before servicing.
2. When it is necessary to make adjustments inside equipment that is operating, do so
using one hand, keeping the other clear of equipment chassis.
3. Deenergize equipment before removing plug-in printed circuit boards and
assemblies.
4. Become familiar with artificial respiration techniques.
5. Adhere to the safety notice that appears at the front of the manual.

DANGER OF EXPLOSION!
Only remove equipment when it is disconnected and not in the potentially explosive area.
DANGER
The device contains dangerous live elements and high levels of stored energy.
Never carry out work when the power is turned on.
WARNING
Before startup please ensure:
The mains connection has been carried out by a competent person and protection against electric shock is
guaranteed!
The device can be disconnected outside the power supply unit in accordance with the regulations as in EN
60950 (e.g. through primary side line protection)!
All feed lines are sufficiently protected and dimensioned!
All output lines are dimensioned according to the maximum output current of the device or separately
protected!
Sufficient convection must be guaranteed.
CAUTION
The power supply units are built-in devices. The device may only be installed and put into operation by qualified

The 100 V AC ... 240 V AC connection is made using the L and N screw connections.
The device can be connected to 1-phase AC networks or to two of the phase conductors of three-phase systems (TN, TT or
IT networks in acc. with VDE 0100-300/IEC 60364-3) with nominal voltages of 100 V AC ...240 V AC.
For operation on two of the phase conductors of a three-phase system, an isolating facility for all poles must
be provided.
12 Input
CAUTION
If an internal fuse is triggered, there is a device
malfunction. In this case, the device must be
inspected in the factory.
13 Output
CAUTION
Make sure that all output lines are dimensioned
according to the maximum output current or are
separately protected. The cables on the
secondary side must have sufficiently large
cross sections in order to keep the voltage
drops on the lines as low as possible.
14 Signaling
The "DC OK" LED enables evaluation of the function of the power supply directly on site.
State 1 State 2
"DC OK" LED ON OFF
Cause Output voltage > 10.8 V Output voltage < 10.8 V or no voltage at the
output
Meaning Output voltage and output current OK The device is in operation, but there is a fault
in the consumer, the current consumption is
greater than I1 or the output is short circuited.
The device is out of operation because there
is no mains voltage, the fuse on the primary
side has been triggered, or the device is
faulty.

Parallel operation
Devices of the same type can be connected in parallel to
increase both redundancy and power. By default upon
delivery, no further adjustments are required.
If the output voltage is adjusted, a uniform distribution of
power is guaranteed by setting all parallel operated power
supply units to exactly the same output voltage.
To ensure symmetrical current distribution we recommend
that all cable connections from the power supply unit to the
busbar are the same length and have the same cross section.
Depending on the system, for parallel connection of more
than two power supplies a protective circuit should be
installed at each individual device output (e.g., decoupling
diode, DC fuse or circuit breaker). This prevents high return
currents in the event of a secondary device fault.
Redundant operation
IN IN Redundant circuits are suitable for supplying systems, which
+ − + − place particularly high demands on operational safety. If a
fault occurs in the primary circuit of the first power supply unit,
the second device automatically takes over the complete
power supply without interruption, and vice versa. For this
+ purpose, the power supply units to be connected in parallel
− must be large enough that the total current requirements of all
loads can be fully met by one power supply unit. External
decoupling diodes are required for 100% redundancy
(ST 4-QUATTRO-DIO 1N 5408/L-R, Order No. 3037782, ST
Σ = IN 4-QUATTRO-DIO 1N 5408/R-L, Order No. 3037795).
+ −
Increased performance
IN IN For n parallel connected devices, the output current can be
+ − + − increased to n x IN. Parallel connection for increasing power
is used when extending existing systems. A parallel
connection is recommended if the power supply unit does not
cover the current consumption of the most powerful load.
+ Otherwise, the load should be divided between individual
− devices that are independent from one another.

TABLE OF FIGURES
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
1 General
Microwave energy is carried between the transceiver (MTR) and the antenna by
means of transmission lines. At the microwave frequencies involved in marine radar
system, the type of transmission lines most often employed are enclosed waveguides
(X-Band) or coaxial lines (S-Band). The characteristics of these transmission lines
which determine whether they perform efficiently are a function of their dimensions
and geometrical configuration as well as the dielectric material which fills the lines.
• Minimum length
• Extreme caution in handling the lines to prevent kinks, dents, water or dirt
infiltration and any other physical damage or contamination
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
In this case the following sections describe how to connect the E-Bend, the flexible
Waveguide, the pressure windows and the flanges.
It is very important to consider the notes to get the best performance between the line
antenna, pedestal, waveguide switch and transceiver.

Clean cloth During the waveguide installation, used to close the open
waveguide hole (protection against dirt, water etc.).
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
An “O”-ring gasket must always be used when assembling waveguide runs in a chock-
to-cover coupling.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Bend waveguide by hand, using extreme caution to ensure proper bend radius
without damaging waveguide.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
6. Use structure glands to ensure weather tight fit at walls or ceilings etc..
7. Flex chapters are required to minimize the effects of shock and vibration. Do
not exceed recommended lengths of flex waveguide.
10. All joints must have O-ring to ensure a proper seal. Coat O-rings with a small
amount of silicone grease.
11. The waveguide run should be provided with a protective encasement, where
possibility of physical damage exists.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The side with the clearance holes has to be installed to the pedestal side. Insert the O-
ring into the groove and install the E-Bend waveguide elbow via the connecting
screws.
1.1.6 Waveguide Installation between 90° Waveguide Elbow and Connector and
Pressure Window (Twistable Waveguide WR-90 MOD)
Precondition; the EW85 X-Band Waveguide Kit was installed before.
• Put the twistable waveguide side and the pressure window side with
connector together.
• Install the 4 screws, center the group and fix the screws in diagonal
way.
• Insert the O-ring into the groove from the 90° waveguide elbow.
• Take the other twistable waveguide side and install it to the 90°
waveguide elbow.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Please not the two bending radii for the elliptical waveguide.
1. Firmly pack clean cloth into the waveguide beyond the point where cut is to be
made. This prevents chips and metal dust from entering the waveguide.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
3. Place hacksaw blade against hardened steel face plate of vise and use this as
a guide to cut through waveguide.
4. Place file against face plate and smooth off saw marks. Finish smoothing the
facing with the emery block provided. Remove the waveguide from the cutting
vise.
5. Remove all burrs with a sharp razor knife. Take care not to create a large
bevel on inside edge of the waveguide face. However, a 1/16 inch (1.587mm)
chamfer on the outside edge of the face will make the connection procedure
easier.
6. Remove all scratches and nicks on the outside surface of the waveguide in the
area within one inch of new face (end). Use a fine file and emery paper; do not
remove any more metal than necessary.
7. Remove cloth slowly; be careful to remove all chips that are inside the
waveguide.
THE WAVEGUIDE.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Clean the surfaces where the strap mates with the waveguide and grounding rod.
Coat these mating surfaces with an oxide inhibiting compound. Tighten the waveguide
bonding clamp evenly. Connect the other end of the strap directly to the grounding
rod.
1. Make sure all flange mating surfaces are clean and free from grease.
2. Insert O ring into the O ring groove on the elliptical waveguide connector.
3. Position side of the window marked Pressure Side against the elliptical
waveguide flange and O ring.
4. Hold flexible waveguide flange hardware. Make sure the assembly is properly
aligned before tightening the bolts. Misalignment will cause impedance
mismatch. Tighten the bolts in pairs, located 180° apart. If the gap between
flanges is not uniform, loosen the bolts and retighten them.

Connector
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Take the black heat shrink tube and push the smallest hole first over the waveguide.
The black heat shrink tube is used for connector weather protection and must be
placed after the connector installation (see Step 10).
Step 1
Prepare waveguide as shown in Figure 1-6. End of waveguide must be square. Use
straight –edged piece of paper wrapped around waveguide as a cutting guide.
• Hold the waveguide downward while cutting to reduce the entry of copper
chips.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 2
Add thin coating of silicon grease to large O-ring gasket and place it into groove inside
clamping nut, then apply thin coating of silicone grease to smooth insider surface of
clamping nut that slides over smaller O-ring (Step 8). Place nut over end of waveguide
at distance from end as shown in Figure 1-7. Secure nut to wave guide with several
turns of tape covering end of nut to keep foreign matter from entering during assembly
operation.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 3
Slide compression ring over waveguide until recessed edge butts against jacket.
Step 4
Turn gasket inside out and place over end of waveguide. Apply very thin coating of
silicone grease to gasket threads, then flip gasket over and against compression ring.
Apply thin coating of silicone grease to outside surface of gasket. Refer to Figure 1-8.
Clean any silicone grease from exposed copper using solvent
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 5
• Alignment pin holes in flare ring and compression ring must be in line.
• Flare ring must be pushed against compression ring as tight as possible. Refer
to Figure 1-8 and Figure 1-9. Approximate opening between flare ring and
compression ring should be as shown.
Step 6
Use metal snips to make cuts into end of waveguide to depth and intervals shown to
form tabs. See Figure 1-9. Cut as close as possible to flare ring.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 7
Flatten tabs against flare ring with a mallet as shown in Figure 1-10. Use only enough
force to flatten tabs. Do not strike tabs so hard as to reduce thickness of metal. Trim
any tab that protrudes past outside of groove in flare ring.
• Face of connector body with contacts tabs should also be cleaned thoroughly
so that no grease is present in mating RF contact surfaces.
Step 8
Place smaller O-ring gasket into groove in connector body. (Do not apply silicone
grease to this gasket.) Apply thin coating of silicone grease to rear outer surface of
compression ring. This will allow large O-ring gasket inside clamping nut to slide over
compression ring.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 9
Refer to Figure 1-11. Place connector body against flare ring so that alignment pins
seat properly in alignment holes of flare ring and compression ring.
• Remove tape from clamping nut and screw it onto connector body.
Step 10
Refer to Figure 1-12. After positioning the heat shrink take the hot-air gun shrink tube.

In this case the following sections describes how to connect the 90° elbow, T-bar coax
assembly, S-Band cable Kit with connector installation and the coax cable to the S-
Transceiver.
It is very important to consider the notes to get the best performance between the line
antenna, pedestal and transceiver.

Pedestal side
Refer to Figure 1-16. Connect the elbow with the 7/16 connector. Connect the male
connector side to the pedestal. Look for correct cable bend. Fix the screws.
2. Cable bends must not have a radius of less than 10-in (254mm)
3. Cable must be handling with care to avoid kinks and crushing. If this occurs,
cut the damaged area out of the able and slice with a slice fitting or 2 EIA
connectors.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
4. Use a 90° elbow in lieu of a cable bend in case where a bend will make the
cable protrude excessively into a traveled area. An elbow will keep cable close
to a bulkhead, overhead or check, and prevent its use as an impromptu
handhold. Use of 90° elbows should be minimized to keep signal losses down.
5. Rubber O-rings must be used at all EIA connectors. Coat with silicon grease.
Take the black heat shrink tube and push the smallest hole first over the cable.
The black heat shrink tube is used for connector weather protection and must be
placed after the connector installation (see Step 10).
Step1
Refer to Figure 1-17. End of cable must be straight for at least 10 in. (254mm). Using
knife remove jacket to dimension shown. Deburr sharp end of cut outer conductor.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 2
Refer to Figure 1-18. Scribe line on ridge of exposed corrugated outer conductor.
Remove jacket to dimension shown, using straight-edged piece of heavy paper
wrapped around cable as a guide.
Step 3
Refer to Figure 1-19. Clean outer conductor with solvent. Slide on small thick O-ring
gasket to second fully-exposed corrugation groove from end of jacket. Apply thin
coating of silicone grease to outer surface of gasket and gasket lead chamfer in
clamping nut.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 4
Refer to Figure 1-20. Push clamping nut on cable. Use twisting motion to ensure
spring contacts snap into groove. (See cutaway view in Figure 1-21) Grip clamping nut
with one hand align edge with scribed line, and then carefully cut cable flush with end
of clamping nut. Use hacksaw with fine–toothed blade.
Separate foam completely from edge of outer conductor to ensure good electrical
contact with outer body.
The enlarged cutaway view in Figure 1-22 illustrates positive grip of outer conductor
between clamping nut and outer body. Use tip of knife, and work around entire
circumference. Remove burrs from inside edges of outer and inner conductors with
knife. Use wire brush to remove copper particles from foam.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 6
Refer to Figure 1-22. Thread outer body to clamping nut and tighten with wrenches.
Turn outer body only; do not turn clamping nut. Disassemble connection to inspect for
good metal-to-metal contact. Reassemble.
Step 7
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Step 8
Refer to Figure 1-24. After positioning the heat shrink take the hot-air gun shrink tube.
