CROWDFUNDING SESSIOND FOR CLASS XII

DATES: TUESDAY, 28th MAY and THURSDAY, 30th MAY 2024.

The crowdfunding sessions are conducted by Ranganath Thota (Founder of

Fueladream.com). He used to work in the corporate world in India, S.E Asia, and China over
the last 3 decades. He now runs Fueladream, a crowdfunding platform based out of
Bengaluru. They teach crowdfunding as a life skill to students and have successfully engaged
with 20000 + students across 110+ schools across India.

Fueladream teaches crowdfunding as a science and a life skill. It marries storytelling,

technology, communication skills, and consumer behaviour. Students learning to crowdfund
are in a unique position to impact others through supporting social causes and can also use
it to fund their own ideas and innovations. Their online footprint improves dramatically as
the campaign appears on a google search and helps with admissions to colleges etc.

The program Is free of cost.

Why is crowdfunding critical for students?

In addition, all students will get an e-certificate after the campaign ends.

The schedule for the Intro and Training sessions is given below:

Session 1- Introduction to crowdfunding : 28th MAY (TUE).

Session 2- A deep-dive training session : 30th MAY (THU).
PROCESS:
There will be two sessions, both of approximately 1-hour each. The first session is an
introduction to crowdfunding and a discussion on the initiative they can support. The
second session is a deep dive into the science of crowdfunding where students learn how to
manage their campaigns.

To take part in the campaign students need to register after the first session. This
registration is done at an online link that will be shared with all of the students AFTER the
first session. Students need to get parental permission to register and take part.

The 2nd session is when students are taught the science of crowdfunding. All the student
campaigns will be launched on 30th May at 8pm. Each student has their own campaign and
these run for 15-days and take 10-mins-a-day to manage from home. Post the campaign E-
certificates are given to all students.

THE CAMPAIGN

CAUSE: To provide reusable sanitary pads to underprivileged girls/ women in Haryana.

NGO PARTNER: Go Girl Foundation
IMPACTS: Girls and Women from low-income homes.
BENEFITS: This impacts their health, well-being and confidence.

Millions of girls and women from low-income families in urban slums and rural India do not
have access to sanitary pads. This is driven by lack of financial resources and lack of awareness
of proper menstrual hygiene practices.

If they do use pads they tend to overuse the pad and end up wearing the same pad for long
periods of which causes infections. They also use improper means – rags, newspapers, ash,
sand etc. This leads to “massive health issues.”

Go Girl Foundation, aims to impact women and girls from marginalised homes in Chennai by
giving them reusable sanitary napkins. See image below – the pack contains 5 reusable
sanitary pads - 2 for heavy flow and 3 for normal flow.
This initiative will also involve students going to a Urban slum/rural village and training girls
and women on how to use the pads and talking to them about menstrual hygiene. While
Grade 12 students at DPS Gurgaon will be involved they will also involve Grade 10 students
(boys and girls) from Shiksha Kendra. This will be a game-changer as this is a topic that is not
exactly discussed freely by these students.

Each kit costs just INR 500 including the cost of training these girls and women. The pads last
for 18-months, are environment-friendly, easy to store, and most importantly very cost-
effective.

Crowdfunding in summary is a wonderful way for a child to learn a life skill, build empathy
and teach them how they can leverage technology to make the world a better place.
Students who learn this also leverage it for their own projects - from social impact projects
to science projects, start-up funding, etc. Take advantage of this program and it will
definitely have a positive impact on a student and will make you a change agent.
