The discovery of America refers to the arrival of
Christopher Columbus in the Americas in 1492.
Columbus, an Italian explorer sailing under the
Spanish flag, set sail on August 3, 1492, from Palos
de la Frontera, Spain, with three ships:
“La Niña”
“La Pinta”
“La Santa Maria”
 On October 12, 1492, Columbus and his crew made landfall
in the present-day Bahamas, believing they had reached the
East Indies. This event marked the beginning of European
exploration and colonization of the Americas.
The discovery of America had far-reaching consequences,
leading to the exchange of goods, ideas, and diseases
between the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. This
exchange significantly impacted the cultures, economies,
and environments of both the Old World and the New
World.
