MODULE 1:
PRIOR
CHECKS
1.1 FAMILIARIZATION
WITH THE VEHICLE
Introduction to Different Types of Vehicles:
Z • Manual vehicles
These vehicles require the driver to shift gears manually using

the clutch and gearbox. When changing gears, depress the
clutch, select the appropriate gear, then gently release the clutch
while accelerating.
Z • Automatic vehicles
In these vehicles, the gear change is done automatically. The

driver only needs to use the accelerator and brake. To start,
place the selector in the 'Drive' (D) position and gently press the
accelerator.
Essential Vehicle Components

• Engine
The heart of the vehicle, it converts fuel into energy to move the vehicle
forward. If you hear unusual noises or see warning lights on the
dashboard, consult a mechanic.

• Braking system
Allows you to slow down or stop the vehicle. If the brakes are squealing
or the car pulls to one side when braking, it's time to have them checked.

• Direction
Allows you to control the direction of the vehicle. Heavy steering or a

vibrating steering wheel may indicate a problem.
1.2 SYSTEMATIC
CONTROLS
Pre-Start Checklist:

• Visual inspection
Before getting in the car, walk around the vehicle to check for visible
damage, objects blocking the wheels, or leaks under the car.

• Tire check
Check that there are no cuts or dents on the sides of the tires and that
the tread has sufficient depth. Use a pressure gauge to check the
pressure.

• Level control
Open the hood and check the oil, coolant, and brake fluid levels. Make
sure they are between the 'Min' and 'Max' marks.
Security Controls:

• Lighting
Turn on the headlights, parking lights, and turn signals to make sure they
are working. Have someone check the taillights while you activate them.


Test the horn briefly to make sure it works.

1.3 PRECAUTIONS

neutral (for manual vehicles) or 'Park' (for automatics), then start
engine.

Especially in cold weather, let the engine run for a few moments
before leaving to ensure good oil circulation.

MANEUVERS
2.1 PARKING AND

STOPPING
Parking in Reverse (“S” shape):

To reverse park in an "S" shape, approach the parallel parking

space, then reverse slowly while turning the steering wheel to
guide the car into the space. Use your mirrors and look over
your shoulder for full visibility.
Z • Location Selection
Choose a location where it is safe to park, away from

intersections and driveways. The space must be large enough
for your vehicle.

Always check your mirrors and look around to make sure there
are no pedestrians or other vehicles nearby.
Z • During Parking
Move slowly and continually adjust your position to avoid hitting

curbs or other vehicles.
2.2 SPECIFIC
MANEUVERS
U-Turn, Perpendicular Parking, Reverse:
• U-Turn
Choose a safe place to turn around, with sufficient visibility in both

directions. Turn the steering wheel all the way to initiate the U-turn,
making sure not to enter private property or sidewalks.
• Perpendicular Parking
To park, approach the space at a 45-degree angle, then turn the steering
wheel to position the vehicle in the space. When parking in reverse, use
your mirrors and turn to look behind you.
• Reverse
When backing up, keep your speed very low, use your mirrors and look
over your shoulder frequently to maintain your path and safety.
Tips for Smooth and Safe Execution:
• Anticipation
Anticipate the actions of other road users and adjust your speed
accordingly.
• Use of Mirrors
Actively use your side mirrors and the center mirror for complete
awareness of your surroundings.
• Practical
Practice these maneuvers in a safe, controlled environment, such as an

empty parking lot, to gain confidence and skill.

DRIVING
3.1 DIRECTED
CONDUCT
Follow the Examiner's Instructions:

Listen carefully to the examiner's instructions and ask questions

if anything is unclear. The examiner will tell you when to turn,
change lanes, or take other actions.
Z • Execution of Instructions
Follow the instructions given precisely. If the examiner asks you

to turn left at the next intersection, prepare well in advance by
checking the mirrors, signaling, and positioning yourself
correctly.
Anticipation and Adaptation to Traffic:
Z • Anticipate Traffic Situations
Be aware of what is happening around you, including other

vehicles, pedestrians, and road conditions.
Z • Adaptation
Respond appropriately to changing traffic conditions, such as

slowing down, other vehicles changing lanes, and pedestrians
crossing the road.
3.2 INDEPENDENT
DRIVING
Autonomous Navigation and Decision Making:
Z • Follow a Route
During the independent part of the exam, you will be required to

follow a route or signs without direct instructions from the
examiner. Plan your route and make decisions in real time.
Z • Use of Road Signals
Pay attention to road signs, traffic lights, and road markings to

navigate independently and safely.
Management of Complex Traffic Situations
Z • Processing Multiple Tasks
Learn to manage different tasks simultaneously like monitoring

speed, observing traffic signs, and maintaining a safe distance.
Z • Driving in Various Conditions
Practice driving in various conditions, such as urban and rural

areas, to get used to different driving environments.
4 PRACTICAL
EVALUATION
During the practical exam, your competence in the following areas can be assessed
by the examiner:
Under the hood of the car:
a) Identification of the oil level check location.

b) Location of the reservoir for the windshield washer fluid.
c) Location for filling the brake fluid.
d) Coolant filling point.
On and around the wheels:
e) Tire pressure check point.

f) Area for examining tire wear.
Vehicle controls and functions:
1. Activation of position lights.

2. Switching on the dipped headlights.
3. Using high beams.
4. Operation of STOP lights.
5. Activation of hazard lights.
6. Use of turn signals.
7. Switching on the rear fog light.
8. Making lighthouse calls.
9. Defrosting or demisting the front window.
10. Defrosting or demisting the rear window.
11. Using the horn.
12. Handling windshield wipers.
Personal settings for driving:
a) Seat adjustment for optimal visibility and easy access to the pedals, while
guaranteeing comfort.
b) Positioning of the head restraint and seat belt for maximum protection in the
event of an accident and adequate positioning on the shoulder.
c) Adjusting the height (and sometimes the depth) of the steering wheel.
d) Adjusting the central mirror.
e) Positioning of the exterior mirrors.
f) Verify that all doors are properly closed before starting.
Mandatory equipment:
Presence of an 'L' sign at the rear of the vehicle.
Double mirror for the trainer if you hold a license with an attendant (P36M and
P12M), not required for those with an individual license (P18M).
