CONCLUSION
INTRODUCTION

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon
Muhammad the seal of the Prophets, the leader of the pious, the Messenger of the Lord of
all the worlds, and upon his Family, his Companions and those that followed them until the
Day of Judgment.
Death and is reality are something that should be taken seriously and being aware of this
should be in are thoughts. The true reality is that death, the grave, and that which associates
with this can only define the proof that we belong to Allah and the hereafter is the unknown
path of success or failure.
I have title the book, ‘Ten hadith relating to death and is explanation,’ the reason was to
really digest, analyse and interpret the hadith regarding death.

Here some verses from the Quran regarding death. Allah says,

“O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as
Muslims [in submission to Him.”(3:102)
“Every soul will taste death. And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you
will be returned.”(21:35)

1. Al Hasan al Basri said: ‘Death has exposed the world’s faults, thus the one
who has any inner core is not left with any joy therein. A servant does not
adhere to the remembrance of death in his heart except that the world
becomes trivial in his eyes and all of what is in it becomes immaterial,’

‘Death has exposed the world’s faults,’

The faults of people are seen by Allah and that death brings the errors of this world into is
true reality. When death becomes the aftermath of judgment. Meaning that what is exposed
is the problem that are truly uncovered is when death is brought forward. And that death
makes matters clear and apparent. By understanding what is clear and apparent brings the
equation of death.
“Every soul will taste death. Then to Us will you be returned” (Quran 29 verse 57)

Death silents sin, as the soul is removed and therefore uncovering the faults within it.
Furthermore, there are temptation and desires relating to the world faults, this burden
brings trials and test that examines the person by either tenting his Iman or strengthening
his Iman. But when the subject of death appears and is apparent then the person who is
dead, has his deeds revealed to Allah because now he is deceased.

‘thus the one who has any inner core is not left with any joy therein,’

The inner essence, meaning the heart or the soul, is not fully appreciative and not satisfied
with worldly pleasures. Therefore, the heart or the soul finds no joy in it resulting the inner
self to feel this emptiness when following his desires and entertainment.
‘Inner core,’ can refer to the soul or the heart. The heart, desires what it inclines to, until his
desire becomes consistent. Resulting him/her to only that which leads him to the false
temporary pleasures.
The joy in which a person finds in this world, can only not be the true reality in what person
is seeking rather he seeks that which is true provision and therefore he is satisfied with this.
Allah says

“Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and
boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the
example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see
it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. And in the Hereafter is severe
punishment and forgiveness from Allah and approval. And what is the worldly life except the
enjoyment of delusion.”

“Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day
of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has
attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.”
The joy is only really implemented and experienced through matters of provision that given
to a person by which he earns through efforts of Iman (Faith).
There is a difference between the one who is bless with provision but doesn’t act upon in
terms of faith. So, when the disbeliever is given provision the desires and pleasures
outweigh the remembrance of death, as the desires and pleasures are his only concern.
The whole understanding of ‘joy therein,’ even though the person doesn’t find any
happiness with in what he has been given because his heart filled with persistent desires
and empty of Iman and guidance.
Remembrance of death takes away any pleasure and replace it with concern and mindful
awareness of the creator.

‘A Servant does not adhere to the remembrance of death in his heart’

The disbeliever forgets and ignores the reminder of death, in which the causes and is effect
are due to his ignorant heart.
Remembering death brings discipline to the soul, so for the person whose hearts feels
distance from Allah, remember death as much. The remembrance of death has two benefits.
- the first is that the heart grows in awareness and consciousness of his lord (Allah)
- the second is that remembrance of death gives extra motivation to engage in good acts

When the truth is present, the obligation of remembering death does not hinder his/her
concern and therefore resulting in Ghaflah (Heedlessness) and furthermore he/she does not
‘adhere’ to it nor does he make it his priority.
“And warn them, [O Muhammad], of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be concluded;
and [yet], they are in [a state of] heedlessness, and they do not believe.”

The reminder of death, only attributes, in given awareness to the reflection of a person life
and his/her contemplation in the heart. And therefore, for the circumstance of not having
any concern in the remembrance of death only results in loss.

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives
and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient

except that the world becomes trivial in his eyes and all of what is in it becomes
immaterial
What you see in terms of this world and is false treasures within, is only a small fraction
compared to the constant pleasures of the hereafter. And that the circumstance in which the
world presents itself is a true reflection of is deception.

The only importance for the disbeliever is he take priority in seeing things which delight him
or her and that the true importance is forgotten i.e. remembering Allah.

“The hypocrite men and hypocrite women are of one another. They enjoin what is wrong
and forbid what is right and close their hands. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten
them [accordingly]. Indeed, the hypocrites - it is they who are the defiantly disobedient.”
(Quran chapter 9, verse 67)

The ‘immaterial,’ possession has no value in the eyes of Allah. And that what seems to
appear are insignificant matters that have no benefit whatsoever only a temporary
excitement.
The true reason for the worldly matters and is thrown desires is that ignorant plays major
role in a person who thinks his material possession is God. So, they dismiss the true God
(Allah) and replace with something that is trivial.

2. Shumayt Ibn ‘Ajlan said: ‘Whoever puts death before his very eyes will not
be bothered with the constrictions and hardships of the worldly life.’

‘Whoever puts death before his very eyes’

The most intelligent person is the individual who remembers death and prepare for it. So, he
makes death his priority and his heart becomes the focus upon the remembrance of death.
Whoever focuses upon death before any other matter then this is better for him as this
soften the heart and raises a person’s Iman. The best quality the person possess is to
remember death and makes this his only concern.
Allah says,

“O you who have believed, let not your wealth and your children divert you from
remembrance of Allah. And whoever does that - then those are the losers.”(Quran 63 verse
9)
Seeing the true reality of death and the seriousness that it possesses and reflecting upon all
the deaths that has happened on earth, from the beginning of Adam (alayhi as salam) and
currently and will happen to each individual person in the world that has lost his friend or
family then the heart should incline to reflection and emotion. The reflection being
understanding why people die and the purpose behind death. Then you understand death is
to be truly successful in this world and the hereafter through good deeds and this will
diminish some of the worry a person may have when he or she is placed in the grave.

Death presents itself as something that replaces happiness. The true happiness is one who
works towards good and dies upon it. Imam ibn Qudamah al Maqdisi says in his book ‘The
remembrance of death and the afterlife.’ That ‘Death brings anxiety to his happiness and
lengthen his reflection.’

The concern in a person heart, in which the heart sees and hears. Can manifest in seeing and
hearing the truth and that is presented like death. This should make him fear in asking
himself and assessing his hope in attaining Jannah.

‘will not be bothered with the constrictions and hardships of the worldly life.’

Too much love of worldly life brings about distraction and hardness to the heart. The
opposite is true that person who focus upon remembering of death and applies his worship
to Allah and is persistent in it then he or she who will not face constriction and hardship of
the worldly life.
Anas ibn malik reported: The messenger of Allah, peace and blessing be upon him, said.
“Whoever is concerned about the hereafter, Allah will place richness in his heart.”
The constriction and hardship of the worldly life come about when Allah is neglected and
forgotten. Therefore, the heedless of not remembering death and not remembering the
creator Allah leads to a difficult life even if people do not see it.

3. Abu’l – Darda (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) said: ‘If you remember the dead, include
yourself as being one of them.’

‘If you remember the dead,

If a person remember death of a loved one or a friend then this should be a reminder of the
importance of reflection, this includes monitoring your relationship with God (Allah). If the
circumstance is different in how you reflect upon death meaning not having a care about
what you see i.e. death, then this is an indication that heart needs to wake up.

Say, "Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be
returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what
you used to do."
Remembering death is like passing by a tree that been cut and has lost is roots. The tree
being the human and source do is problem and why is cut? Is like the angel of death
removed the soul of a person.

Say, "The angel of death will take you who has been entrusted with you. Then to your Lord
you will be returned."

To understand death is to understand your heart, the heart can be in state as if is dead,
sound or in between. Therefore, the heart determines success or failure, why? Because
when the heart stop then death occurs the soul is removed. The person who died upon a
dead heart did not repent then Allah only noes his fate.

‘include yourself as being one of them.’

No that you will place in the grave is confirmed fact and seeing somebody be put in the
grave, no that you will be place as well. The difference between the person who is put in the
grave and the person watching is the person watching has been given time to either repent
or mend his corelation with Allah whilst the person being put in his grave his repentance has
stopped.
Being amongst the dead is like being amongst success or failure. The deceased is somebody
heart who has ceased and therefore being amongst them your heart will one day stop.

4. Anas (radiyAllahu ‘anhu) reported, “A man was once mentioned highly

praised in the presence of the prophet (S.A.W). The Prophet (S.A.W) asked
them: “How is your companion’s remembrance of death?” They replied:
“We never heard him mention death.” The Prophet (S.A.W) said: “Then your
companion is not as you suggest”

“A man was once mentioned highly praised in the presence of the prophet (S.A.W).

Be careful, who you praise. Is correct to praise somebody with having the blessing of wealth
or any other blessing in life. The person who remembers death constantly is different to
person who does not remember death. Praising somebody for that which does not benefit
him other than the benefit for him to be praise because he remembers death shows it.

To be praised is something you should dismiss from people and seek the praise of Allah
because seeking the praise of Allah is much better and greater than seeking the praise of
others.

It was narrated that Mu’awiyah (‫)رض هللا عنه‬

‫ي‬ said: “I heard the Messenger of Allaah (‫ )ﷺ‬say:

“Beware of praising one another, for it is slaughtering (one another).”

[Ibn Maajah no. 3743 and authenticated by Al-Albani who graded it Hasan)]

Zaid ibn Aslam narrated on the authority of his father that he said, “I heard ‘Umar
say: “Praising is slaughtering.” Muhammad added. “If he (the praised person) accepted
it.” [Saheeh Al-Adab al-Mufrad no. 336 and authenticated by Al-Albaani who graded it
Saheeh]
The Prophet (S.A.W) asked them: “How is your companion’s remembrance of death?”

The prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) posing a question to the people who were praising a
particular person. Questions have great wisdom when analysing particular matters. The first
thing that prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) inquired about is his character and his heart.

They replied: “We never heard him mention death.”

The person who never mention death and talks about another subject within Islam, must be
questioned. Death is a fundamental and imported topic in Islam to mention. The importance
of mentioning death to yourself and other and try to encourage yourself to do this often as
this grows, the faith and certainty in Allah.

The Prophet (S.A.W) said: “Then your companion is not as you suggest”

So, the companion described by the prophet regarding the companion remembrance of
death, is not the person who you think he is. Because he does want to speak about death.
Because may cause worry and anxiety to people however this should not be an excuse.

5. Ibn ‘Umar (radiyAllahu ‘anhuma) narrated, “The Prophet (S.A.W) was once
asked: “Who is the most intelligent of people?” The Prophet replied
(S.A.W): “Those who remember death the most are the best in their
preparation for it. Such are the intelligent ones.”
Ibn ‘Umar (radiyAllahu ‘anhuma) narrated, “The Prophet (S.A.W) was once asked: “Who is
the most intelligent of people?”

The question to the prophet (S.A.W) was question of knowledge and wisdom. As the prophet
was showered with knowledge and wisdom from Allah. The question itself is unique query.
Question themselves analyse particular situation, if the question has meaning in which the
person is trying to identify a particular matter then question brings knowledge in any topic.

The Prophet replied (S.A.W): “Those who remember death the most are the
best in their preparation for it. Such are the intelligent ones.”

The prophet responds to the question regarding “who is the most intelligent of people?” The
prophet states “those who remember death the most are the best in their preparation for it.
Such are the intelligent ones.” Prophet answered the question those that remind themselves
of death and pay much attention to this they are knowledgeable ones.

6. It has been reported from Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar (radiyAllahu ‘anhuma) that
he said: Allah’s Messenger (S.A.W) said: “Be in the world as though you
were a stranger or a wayfarer.”

“Be in the world as though you were a stranger”

This world that we live in and is desires and temptation. A stranger will understand that the
desires and temptation, will eventually vanish. What left? A stranger is somebody who
enters house and then eventually leaves. The stranger is somebody who silent’s his worldly
desires and works towards building the hereafter i.e. Jannah.

“or a wayfarer.”

The definition of ‘wayfarer,’ is

‘a person who travels on foot.’(Cambridge dictionary)

7. Suhaym, the client of Banu Tamim said: ‘I sat with ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Abdullah,
when he finished his prayer he approached me and said: ‘Inform me of your
need as I am eager for something.’ I said to him: ‘What are you eager for?’
He replied: ‘The angel of death.’’ He used to prayer a thousand units [of
prayer] per day.’

‘Inform me of your need as I am eager for something.’

Abdullah Ibn Abdullah asks a question after he finish his prayer. He had this persistent in him
to no and be queries about death as he does not mention at the time. ‘Inform me of your
need as I am eager for something.’ Most people would refrain from talking about death, but
however it may occur that remembering death will motivate a person to engage in high
worship of Allah.

He replied: ‘The angel of death.’’

The angel of death is known Mailkal Mault in the Quran. He responsible at the end to
remove the soul of the person. Knowing about the different types of angels and what they
do? Is part of tenants of faith, to belief in the angels.

8. Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon
him, said, “When the human being dies, his deeds end except for three:
ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for
him.

“When the human being dies”

Death is a certainty; every human and jinn will die and will taste death. The righteous and
the disobedient will face death.

his deeds end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a
righteous child who prays for him.

Three things remain with him in this world that are ongoing deeds, beneficial knowledge
that he do not show off, charity that he did not show arrogance and righteous child who
prays for him.
The concept of charity is deep – rooted in Islam, giving is one of the five pillars of Islam it has
obvious benefits. If person gives charity that’s ongoing then his only benefiting himself and
increasing his deeds.
The beneficial knowledge is somebody who learn the religion and preaches, it does not
depend upon the amount of knowledge. Even if it is little give dawah however you can.
Righteous child who prays for him, Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and
blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah Almighty will raise the status of His righteous
servants in Paradise, and they will say: O Lord, what is this? Allah will say: This is your child
seeking forgiveness for you.

9. Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
said, “When your companion dies, leave him alone and do not malign him.”

“When your companion dies, leave him alone and do not malign him.”
Backbiting is a major sin and do not speak evil of deceased. Let him be because surely, he is
with Allah.

“O you who have believed, avoid much [negative] assumption. Indeed, some assumption is
sin. And do not spy or backbite each other. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his
brother when dead? You would detest it. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is Accepting of
repentance and Merciful.”(49:12)

10. Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be
upon him, said, “Every servant in his grave will be resurrected upon the way
he died, the believer upon his faith and the hypocrite upon his hypocrisy.”

“Every servant in his grave will be resurrected upon the way he died”.
The way a person died, will be resurrected. Everybody has a fate in the way they die some
may die through a car crush, falling off a building or drowning in ocean. Every servant who
was created by Allah will die upon the way the last action was. So is important that we die in
a good and righteous state.

“the believer upon his faith and the hypocrite upon his hypocrisy.”

The believer must try and obtain faith and be steadfast, however Iman increases and
decreases.

The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and
when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely
(8:2)
Those who are hypocrite towards the believers, Allah says

When the hypocrites come to you, [O Muhammad], they say, "We testify that you are the
Messenger of Allah." And Allah knows that you are His Messenger, and Allah testifies that
the hypocrites are liars.(63:1)

Those who commit hypocrisy and never repent and die in that state will be in the lowest of
hellfire.

CONCLUSION

The reality of death is true there is no denying this just as there is life. Every single creature
will place in the grave waiting to be judged.

Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of
Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained
[his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.
