中医
中医( Traditional Chinese Medicine)有五千多年的历史，是中国古代劳动人民几
千年来对抗疾病的经验总结。中医将人体看成是气、形、神的统一体，以“望、闻
问、切”为其独特的诊断过程。中医使用中药、针灸( acupuncture )以及许多其他
治疗手段，使人体达到阴阳调和。阴阳和五行是中医的理论基础。五行是自然界
中的五种基本物质，即金、木、水、火、土。
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a long history of more than 5,000 years. It is
a summary of the experience of the working people over many centuries of struggle
against diseases. TCM considers human body as a unity of QI, XING and SHEN. The
diagnostic process of TCM distinguishes itself by “observation, auscultation and
olfaction, inquiry and pulse diagnosis". TCM uses traditional Chinese medicine,
acupuncture and many other treatment means to make human body be harmony
between YIN and YANG. The concepts of YIN-YANG and WU XING laid a theoretical
foundation for TCM. WU XING refers to five basic substances in the nature, that is,
metal, wood, water, fire, and earth.

莫言
莫言，因其作品“将魔幻现实主义与民间故事、历史与当代社会融合在一起”而
获得诺贝尔文学奖，是首位获此殊荣的中国籍作家。莫言生于山东高密，从小辍
学，21 岁离家参军。许多人是通过导演张艺谋的电影《红高粱》( Red Sorghum)才
知道莫言的，《红高粱 》正是改编自莫言的同名小说。莫言小说中的故事多发生
在高密，在三十几年的写作生涯中，这个地方激发了他许多创作灵感。
Mo Yan
Mo Yan is the first Chinese writer who received the honor of winning the Nobel Prize
in Literature as his works “merges folk tales, history and the contemporary society
with hallucinatory realism”. Born in Gaomi in Shandong Province, Mo Yan dropped
out of school during childhood and left home to join the army at the age of 21. Many
people came to know Mo Yan through director Zhang Yimou's film Red Sorghum,
which is adapted from Mo Yan's novel of the same name. In most cases, stories of
Mo Yan's novels occur in Gaomi, and it's this place that inspires his writing greatly
during his over 30-year writing career.

花木兰
花木兰是中国著名古诗《木兰辞》中描绘的一位替父从军的英雄。因木兰的父亲
年事已高，不能经受奔波劳苦，木兰又没有兄长可以代替老父，于是她把自己
乔装成男子代父从军。虽然这个故事是否真实不得而知，但是千百年来，花木兰
作为孝顺的典范而深受中国人的尊敬。1998 年，美国迪士尼公司将花木兰的故
事改编成了动画片，受到了全世界的欢迎。

Hua Mulan
Hua Mulan is a heroine who joined the army for her father, according to what is
described in a famous Chinese ancient poetry The Ballad of Mulan. Mulan's father is
too old to bear suffering from the bitterness, and she doesn't have an elder brother
to go and fight instead of the old father. So Mulan decides to disguised herself as a
man to join the army for her father. Hua Mulan has been highly respected as a filial
model by the Chinese people for hundreds of years, even though it is unknown
whether the story has any factual basis. In 1998, her story was adapted into an
animated cartoon by Disney of the United States, and the cartoon was very popular
all over the world.

故宫
故宫，又名紫禁城(Forbidden City)，位于北京市中心，今天人们称它为故宫，意
为“过去的皇宫”。它是无与伦比的古代建筑杰作，世界现存的最大、最完整的
古建筑群，被誉为世界五大宫[北京故宫、法国凡尔赛宫(Versailles Palace)、英国
白金汉宫(Buckingham Palace)、美国白宫(White House)、俄罗斯克里姆林宫
(Kremlin)]之首。故宫建成于明代。在当时落后的社会生产条件下，能建造这样宏
伟高大的建筑群，充分反映了中国古代劳动人民的高度智慧和创造才能。

The Palace Museum

The Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, is located in the center of
Beijing. Today, people name it Gu Gong in Chinese with the meaning of "palace in
the old times". It's an unprecedented masterpiece of ancient construction, and the
biggest and most complete ancient architectural complex existing in the world as
well. It's honored as top one among the five grand palaces in the world: the other
four being the Versailles Palace in France, the Buckingham Palace in Britain, the
White House in America and the Kremlin in Russia. The Palace Museum was built in
the Ming Dynasty.The construction of such a grand and huge architectural complex
under the poor social production condition then fully reflects the great intelligence
and creativity of ancient Chinese working people.

中华民族创造的文化，是我们引以为豪的软实力，也是我们文化自信的底气所
在。要讲好中国故事、弘扬中国精神，最好的手段就是文化的手段，最有力的媒
介就是文化的媒介。我们要发挥好中华文化的独特优势，把能够运用的手段充分
调动起来，以最形象生动的传播，向世界呈现悠久灿烂的中华文化，展现我们
的文明进步，和平发展，诠释中国梦的丰富内涵( implication )。我们有能力创造
中国故事，也一定有能力讲好中国故事。
Chinese Culture
The culture created by the Chinese nation is not only a soft power that we take pride
in but also a source of self-confidence in our culture. If we intend to tell a
good"China story" and carry forward the spirit of China, the best means is the
cultural means and the most powerful media is the cultural media. We should give
free rein to the unique advantages of Chinese culture and fully mobilize all available
means to present to the world our long-standing and splendid culture, to illustrate
the progress of our civilization and peaceful development, and to interpret the rich
implications of China Dream through the most artistic and vivid communication.
Since we can write a China story, we surely are able to narrate this story well.

In no country other than modern China is the issue about the mounting pressure of
college students | college students’ employment | college students after graduation
more serious and impending. Consequently, an increasing number of people begin to
pay attention to this issue. And, similar reports often hit the headlines of many
websites, which has aroused a heated debate among the public.

We all have to be fully convinced that the issue about the mounting pressure of
college | college students’ employment | college students after graduation matters
profoundly, which has a major influence on our daily life. Consequently, if we cannot
handle properly, it must cause serious problems. Thus, relative measures are
supposed to be taken into full consideration. At the very beginning, it is rather
necessary for the government to take effective and proactive measures.
Furthermore, if the public can be made aware of the benefits of similar situation, it
would be much better. Last but not least, I would like to say: without ironclad
implementation, any better suggestion would just be nothing but an empty promise.

In these ways, a better and promising future will not be a question of if, but when.

保护海洋的重要性
In no time other than now is the issue about protecting the ocean from pollution
more serious and impending. Consequently, an increasing number of people begin to
pay serious attention to this issue. And, similar reports often hit the headlines of
many websites, which has aroused a heated debate all over the world.

We all have to be fully convinced that ocean | protecting the ocean from pollution
matters profoundly, and it is closely related to people’s daily life. Therefore, we are
very likely to ask what may account for such phenomenon. And for me, it is quite
easy to come to this conclusion that there are several factors at play. But no other
reasons than the following one contributes more. During the past the decades, the
world economy has advanced sharply in all aspects, especially in the industrial
sectors, and therefore industrial wastes increased markedly as well. In my opinion,
this is the root cause.

We should be clear that no one expects to resolve all issues through one single
solution, we are supposed to remain committed to our own cause. And In this way, a
better and promising tomorrow will not be a question of if, but when.

An instructive saying goes that “If winter comes, can spring be far behind?” Simple as
the proverb is, its implication is profound and thought-provoking. From my
perspective, it is aimed at arousing our serious attention to the wisdom in it.

It goes without saying that the implication underlying this sentence is rather
conspicuous | obvious, which matters profoundly for every person living in
contemporary world, full of fierce competition. Why should we place such a high
value on it? I can tell you a story of mine. Reviewing my passing twenty more years, I
would have to confess that nothing enlightens me more than this saying. Actually
speaking, without the direction from the words, as well as the help from my families
and friends, I would not have the opportunity to enter a college like what I have
entered, and to live a life like what I have had.

From what has been mentioned above, I am sure that if we uphold the wisdom
mentioned in the saying | proverb, a better and promising future will not be a
question of if, but when.
