# Some important calculation of Plenum box sizing for AHU (Air Handling Unit):-

* Lets assume AHU capacity : 8 TR

(Ton of Referigeration)

* As per ASHRAE/ISHRAE standard required velocity for air handling unit 800 FPM.

* As per Thumb rule 1 TR: 400 CFM .

* As per Calculation 1 TR: 700 CFM.
(CFM: Cubic feet per minutes).

So, 8TR: 8x 400 = 3200 CFM

* As per equation = Q= A x V
= Area of flow x Area x velocity
= A= Q/V
= CFM = Area/fpm
= Area = CFM/FPM
= A= 3200 / 800
= A= 4 sqft.
* Area of plenum box = Width(W) x Height (H).

Note:- According to site condition we have to assume height of the plenum box and try to find
width.

* For example :- Height is 1.6 ft

W = A/H
W = 4/1.6
= 2.5 ft
Not:- Depth of the plenum can be calculated by using following equations.
D=2xd
d = Diameter of the fan blower of AHU = 12inch

D = W x d = 12 x 2.5 = 30inch = 2.5 ft

Depth of the plenum : 2.5 ft

Therefore, The size of plenum box for AHU are :-

=WxHxD
= 2.5 x 1.6 x 2.5
