What is a noun
I. Định nghĩa
Danh từ là từ dung để chỉ:

Người Eg: cough, walk, talk, …

Vật Eg: Ms. Trang, father, teacher, …
Nơi chốn Eg: dog, cow, notebook, computer, …
Nhóm tính chất Eg: beauty, fear, happiness, …
Nhóm hành động Eg: house, city, church, …

II. Phân loại

Trong tiếng Anh, danh từ được phân thành 5 loại cơ bản như sau:

Proper nouns David Beckham,

Chỉ tên riêng của người, địa điểm, vật,
chữ cái đầu phải viết hoa.
(Danh từ riêng) London, Buddhism
Common nouns
Chỉ tên chung cho một loại đối tượng,
school, hospital, table, house…
vật dụng…
(Danh từ chung)
Abstract nouns
Chỉ những thứ trừu tượng không nhìn love, sadness, opinion,
thấy được mà cảm nhận được knowledge
(Danh từ trừu tượng)
Collective nouns
Chỉ tên một nhóm, một tập hợp các cá
family, class, group, crowd,
thể khác nhau
(Danh từ tập hợp)
Compound nouns
Là các danh từ ghép lại với nhau để trở bedroom, mineral water,
thành 1 danh từ khác mother-in-law
(Danh từ ghép)

III. Đuôi các danh từ

Các đuôi danh từ thông dụng trong tiếng Anh: -ion, -ment, -ance/-ence, -er/-or/-ar, -age, -ery, -
al, -ant/-ent, -y, -ness, -ism, -ee, -hood, -ship, -dom, -ist, -ian, -y, ...

Hậu tố -ing
Đây là hậu tố đặc biệt, và các danh từ được tạo bởi hậu tố này đều là danh động từ (Gerunds).

Ví dụ:

Winning and losing are inevitable in life (Thắng thua là chuyện thường ở đời)
