33 You are provided with a resistor, a key, an ammeter, a voltmeter, four cells of 3
1.5 V each and few connecting wires. Using these circuit components, draw a
labelled circuit diagram to show the setup to study Ohm's law. State the
relationship between the potential difference (V) across the resistor and the
current (I) flowing through it. Also draw V-I graph, taking V on the X-axis.

Q. No. 34 to 36 are long answer questions.

34 a) Define isomerism. Draw all possible isomers of butane? 5


b) “A compound 'X’ on combustion gives a yellow flame with lots of
smoke". What inference would you draw from this statement?
c) State the role of alkaline KMnO4 in the reaction involving the
conversion of an alcohol to corresponding carboxylic acid.

Consider the molecular formula of the carbon compounds (a) and (b)
as given below:

i) Identify the functional groups in (a) and (b) and write their structures.
ii) Are (a) and (b) isomers? Give reason.

36 The image of a candle flame placed at a distance of 30 cm from a mirror is 5


formed on a screen placed in front of the mirror at a distance of 60 cm from its
pole. What is the nature of the mirror? Find its focal length. If the height of the
flame is 2.4 cm, find the height of its image. State whether the image formed is
erect or inverted.

Rishi went to a palmist to show his palm. The palmist used a special lens for
this purpose.
a) State the nature of the lens and the reason for its use.
b) Where should the palmist place/hold the lens so as to have a real and
magnified image of an object?
c) If the focal length of this lens is 10 cm, the lens is held at a distance of 5
cm from the palm, use the lens formula to find the position and size of
the image.

SECTION - E
Q. No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short
sub-parts. Internal choice is provided in one of these sub-parts.
37 Take a look around you. You will find that most of the common household 4
items such as sugar, vinegar, cooking gas, food, clothes etc., around us are
based on carbon. The gases nitrogen, oxygen and carbon dioxide and fuels such
as natural gas, kerosene, diesel and petrol have one thing in common and that is
the nature of chemical bond between their atoms. All these, and many more
substances around us, have covalent bonds between their atoms.

a) Carbon element plays a very important role in our daily life. Name the
unique property of Carbon which results in formation of several
compounds of it?
b) Draw the structure of Cyclohexane.
c) Priyanka was explaining to Keerthi that carbon has 2 electrons in K shell
and 4 electrons in L shell. It can neither gain nor lose 4 valence electrons
to acquire the nearest noble gas configuration. Justify her statement by
giving a proper reason.
OR
c) Show the formation of bond between carbon and chlorine atoms.

38 In order to trace the inheritance of traits Mendel crossed pea plants having one 4
contrasting character or a pair of contrasting characters. When he crossed pea
plants having round and yellow seeds with pea plants having wrinkled and green
seeds, he observed that no plants with wrinkled and green seeds were obtained
in the F1 generation. When the F1 generation pea plants were cross-bred by

self-pollination, the F2 generation had seeds with different combinations of


shape and colour also.

a) Write any two pairs of contrasting characteristics of pea plant used by


Mendel other than those mentioned above.

generation (in the above case). What do you interpret from this result?

c) Given below is a cross between a pure violet flowered pea plant (V) and
a pure white flowered pea plant (v). Diagrammatically explain what type
of progeny is obtained in F1 generation and F2 generation.
