His First Flight Summary: ‘His First flight’ written by Liam O’ Flaherty is a story of a young Seagull
learning to fly. The story begins with young Seagull sitting alone on a cliff. His brothers and sister had
already learnt to fly but young seagull is still afraid to fly. He did not trust his wings. He tried to fly but
could not because he was afraid. He ran back to his hole. He was alone now for twenty four hours as
his siblings had already learnt to fly and they had flown away. His parents also flow away with his
siblings. His parents were teaching them to fly and how to catch a fish. The seagull was now hungry
because he had not eaten since night. He went to the end of the cliff but returned back as he was
afraid to fly. He was trying to reach to his parents. To reach his parents he had to fly. He went to the
edge of the cliff and pretended to sleep but his parents did not seem to notice him. He saw his brother
and sister lying on the plateau opposite to him. His father was smoothening his features and only his
mother was looking at him. She was eating a piece of fish seagull began to cry and beg for the food.
His mother flies towards him with a piece of fish. Because of hunger, he jumped at the fish with a loud
cry. Suddenly he felt terrified as he could feel he was falling outward in open space. But the very next
moment he could feel his wings spread outwards flapping up and down. He was now flying without any
fear. He was very happy. His mother flew past him. His father and his siblings also joined him. They
flew around him. He saw a vast sea beneath him. His parents and sibling had reached the surface of
and green floor. They were calling seagull. At first seagull could not stand on the sea but gradually he
started to float on it. His family members were circling around him praising him an giving his fish to eat.
The seagull was happy as he had made his first flight.

Communication plays a key role in everyone’s lives, be it humans or animals or birds. The way humans

verbal and non-verbal ways to communicate with each other. Singing is one way in which birds can
interact. While some birds like male blackbirds use their melodious songs. According to some sailors,
large mammals in the oceans sing too. Enormous whales groan and grunt while smaller dolphins and
porpoises whistle and click. Body language has important place in animals’ communication. Even
insects bites as form of their communication.
