General Safety 1. Stay up to date with daily news from trusted sources
Information (national dailies, radio and television stations).

2. Do not show your political affiliations. Do not discuss or


argue about any political aspirant or party.

3. Avoid demonstrations or riots. Immediately leave areas


that show signs of demonstrations or unrest.

4. Maintain good communications with family members,


friends, neighbours and colleagues. Let them know your
destination whenever you are going out.
5. Always go out in the company of friends or relatives,
especially in lonely areas. It is better to avoid lonely
routes.

1. During the election, avoid sharing sensitive information

2. Minimise movements and if possible, avoid traveling


for the two days before and after the election date. Do
not stay out late.

3. Always go out in company of friends or relatives. Avoid


walking alone, particularly in lonely areas.

4. On election day, go home directly after casting your


vote. Do not disclose the candidates you voted for. Do not
discuss your voting activities publicly.

5. Lock your car while driving. Avoid picking strangers.

Dealing with
1. Cooperate with security personnel. Do not resist arrest.

2. Identify the officers making the arrest. Ask for the
reason of your arrest and which station they are taking
you to.
3. Ensure you tell a relative/friend about your destination.
If you are with a friend when arrested, ask that they
accompany you, if possible.
4. Do not make statements or answer questions under
duress. Better to be silent until you have a witness or your
lawyer.
5. Know your rights and stay within the law. Do not
become aggressive. Stay calm and seek help from
relatives and friends.

Prepare for 1. Avoid routines and have emergency plans. Always

adequately charged. Carry two sim-cards from different
networks, in case one network experiences interruptions.

license, permanent voter’s card (PVC), national identity
