Generating Patterns in Sequence

Arithmetic sequence

Pattern- sequence that repeats

Pattern in Mathematics- determined using a rule or a set of rules

▪ (rule that help to solve and calculate math problem)
▪ Determined as numbers, letters, and shape

Sequence- series of numbers that follows repetitive sequence/ pattern

▪ Each number, letter, or symbol in a sequence is called TERM
▪ Function whose domain is finite set or infinite set

Finite sequence- sequence with particular number of terms (bilang lang na terms)
 n 1 2 3 4 5
    
 terms 100 300 500 700 900

Infinite sequence- sequence with an uncountable number of terms

 n 1 2 3 4 …(ellipsis)
    
 terms 100 300 500 700 …

Arithmetic Sequence - A sequence in which every term is created by adding or subtracting a

definite number to the preceding number is an arithmetic sequence.

Geometric Sequence - A sequence in which every term is obtained by multiplying or dividing a

definite number with the preceding number is known as a geometric sequence.

Harmonic Sequence - A series of numbers is said to be in harmonic sequence if the reciprocals of

all the elements of the sequence form an arithmetic sequence.

Fibonacci Sequence - Fibonacci numbers form an interesting sequence of numbers in which each
element is obtained by adding two preceding elements and the sequence starts with 0 and 1.
Generating Patterns in Series

Series- sum of the terms of sequence

Infinite Series – infinite sequence
-symbolize as (…)
Finite series- can be also called partial sum
-sum of the first n terms to the last
-symbolize as (.)
Sigma notation- tells us to add up the terms
- symbol (Σ)
